Chapter 2

Author: Serein M
"Move!"

Silas shoved through the crowd blocking his way.

He strode toward me. The panic in his eyes finally crushed his pride and anger.

He dropped to one knee on the broken ice.

His hands shook as he reached out to gather my convulsing body.

"Silas, wait. Please don't be so easily manipulated."

Vivian shoved a tablet right into Silas's face, blocking his view.

A secret video played on the screen.

It was me in my studio last week.

I was looking for inspiration for a "Despair" couture line, rolling and gasping on the floor.

The moves and expressions were exactly like my pain right now.

"I didn't want to show you this," Vivian's voice was full of reluctance and disappointment. "She's not sick at all. I saw her practicing these exact moves in her studio last week for her new collection. She's just using your trauma to test your love for her!"

Silas's movements froze.

He stared hard at the video. His eyes turned red instantly. The veins on the back of his hand bulged.

Death and separation were his greatest fears, yet I used it to play with his feelings! The hard-won worry in his eyes vanished completely. It was replaced by the deep pain of absolute betrayal.

"Aria." His voice was ice-cold, filled with gritted disappointment. "Get up right now."

He pulled back his rescuing hands. He stood up straight again, glaring down at me coldly.

I hurt so much that even my fingertips trembled. My lungs had completely quit. I shook my head desperately, unable to make a single sound.

"She must be too deep in her own performance," Vivian sighed. "Let's give her a hand, maybe some fresh air will snap her out of it."

A few socialite friends walked over. They gently but firmly hoisted me up by my arms, completely ignoring my bruised, oxygen-starved face.

"Come on, Aria, enough is enough. Toast and apologize to Vivian!" they snapped.

Silas picked up a glass of wine from a nearby table. He held it right to my lips.

"Drink it," he ordered. "Drink this, and I'll let tonight's stupid stunt slide."

I stared into his cold eyes. My tears mixed with cold sweat and fell into the icy water. In agony, I bit the inside of my cheek.

"No..." I used every last drop of my strength to force out the word.

"Still refusing a toast? Aria, you really are holding a grudge, aren't you?" Vivian sighed as if she was deeply hurt.

She picked up a concentrated essential oil diffuser from the table.

"Her breathing is so shallow from anxiety. As a doctor, I recommend aromatherapy. This potent eucalyptus oil will open up her chest."

She placed the steaming device directly beneath my nose.

My lungs screamed. It felt like swallowing broken glass.

Unable to breathe, I opened my eyes wide in pain. Blood vessels popped in my eyes. A violent, tearing pain exploded in my chest.

I clutched my chest tightly. Out of instinct, I reached a trembling finger toward Silas for help.

"Save... me... my lungs..."

Silas slapped my hand away hard. He was absolutely ruthless, but he didn't dare look into my desperate eyes again.

"Stop faking it, Aria! It's just essential oils! It won't hurt you. I've known you for so long, and I've never heard a word about any asthma! I stayed quiet because I loved you. I wanted to give you a chance to change, but you disappointed me too much!"

I closed my eyes in total despair.

Years ago, I ran away from my powerful family to chase my dream as a designer. One day, I was trapped in a horrifying multi-car pileup during a storm. Silas showed up like a hero and pulled me from the wreckage.

We fell in love at first sight.

We became inseparable.

I learned this cold, distant man lost his parents to a sudden, severe illness.

So, I decided to hide that I was the President's daughter, because I wanted to live a normal life with him without the complications of my political background.

I hid my trauma and illness from the kidnapping too.

I didn't want him to relive the fear and helplessness of watching a loved one suffer from illness ever again.

I never thought this kind secret would one day get me killed.

Silas turned around with extreme disgust and heartbreak. He didn't look at me again.

After he turned his back, Vivian knelt down beside me. She pretended to check my pulse, but her sharp acrylic nails dug painfully into my wrist.

"Why... why are you doing this to me?" I managed to whisper.

Vivian leaned close so only I could hear her. The innocent doctor persona melted into a vicious smile.

"You don't deserve him," she whispered venomously. "Silas is handsome, rich, and the CEO of Thorne Group. I spent eleven years trying to win his heart, and I failed. You're just a nobody from the slums. Why do you get to keep him?"

She 'accidentally' let go of my wrist, letting my head hit the floor hard.

"A nobody... from the slums?"

A grim, cold smile crept onto my lips. If my father—the man who controlled the entire Federation military and government—knew I was humiliated and trampled like this, what kind of bloody hell would he unleash?

Sadly, I would never see him again.

My vision blurred. Through the haze, I saw my spare emergency pill. It had dropped near a waiter's feet far away. It was my last glimmer of hope.

The will to live drove every part of my body.

Just a few more crawls... I thought. Just a few more...

I thought I could reach the pill. Even if I couldn't, I hoped I could get the waiter's attention. Maybe he would kindly give me the medicine. Then I would at least have a chance to see my father one last time.

I clenched my teeth until they almost broke.

Dragging my dying body, I crawled forward with every last drop of my strength.

Just then, a tall, dark figure smashed through the side observation glass. He had actually used a fire extinguisher to bash a hole right through the bulletproof window. Ignoring the bloody cuts from the shards, he kicked Vivian flying. Vivian slammed hard into the wall, but she lunged again like a maniac, clutching the poisoned needle. The figure didn't dodge at all. He threw his broad back over me, shielding me completely. The toxic needle sank deep into his back. The eerie blue poison was pushed straight into him. In the final second before the anesthesia took me under, I saw his face pouring with cold sweat as the toxin took hold. It was Silas. Agents stormed in and pinned Vivian to the floor. Black blood was already oozing from Silas's lips. But he didn't cry out. He didn't struggle. He just gave my unconscious face a relieved smile. As if taking that needle for me was the greatest redemption of his life. When I woke up again, the ten-hour lung repair surgery was dec

  • When The President’s Daughter Stops Breathing   Chapter 7

"Is he crazy?" I didn't even look up, flipping to the next page of next season's couture sketches. The Commander grimly handed me his tactical tablet. On the screen, Silas was pinned to the floor outside the OR by heavily armed agents. The once-untouchable business emperor was covered in mud. After days of his empire crumbling and starving himself, he was nothing but skin and bones. But his bloodshot eyes were locked on my room. He had abandoned every ounce of pride and dignity a billionaire CEO had. His only sick obsession was to see me before my surgery. Even if it meant kneeling at my feet with zero dignity, crying and begging for forgiveness. My father sat by my bed. He took a slow sip of his black coffee. "He's your ex. You decide what to do with him." I lazily flipped to the next design. "Leave him there." The Commander blinked in surprise. "Lock him in the family observation room outside the OR," I ordered coldly. "I want him behind that bulletproof glass, watching me

Hearing my emotionless verdict, Silas looked like his spine had been ripped out. He stood frozen in the middle of the wreckage. Those deep, arrogant eyes were now overflowing with disbelief, horror, and despair. He finally understood I wasn't just throwing a tantrum. I really didn't want him anymore. Outside, the heavy rumble of military-grade armored SUVs echoed. Red and blue police lights pierced the night. My father carried me securely into the spacious armored car. He coldly ordered the rest of the people to be handed over to the FBI. "No! Aria!" Silas rushed the car like a madman. Click. The agents instantly formed an unbreakable human wall. Tactical stun guns aimed right at his chest. "Step back, Mr. Thorne," the Secret Service Director warned coldly. "Take one more step, and we will treat you as a lethal threat and put you down." Silas completely ignored the deadly weapons. Through the heavy wall of agents, he roared at me with bloodshot eyes. "Aria, please! Don't go

  • When The President’s Daughter Stops Breathing   Chapter 5

Vivian collapsed into the broken ice on the floor, sobbing uncontrollably. "Mr. President, please have mercy!" She cried beautifully, still putting on her sickening innocent act. "I swear I just grabbed the wrong medicine! I was only trying to help as a doctor!" My father brushed invisible dust off his coat. His voice was flat and deadly. "Help? Then I'll return the favor." He turned his head slightly. "Have the Medical Board revoke her license. Call the IRS. Seize her family's hospitals. By sunrise, I want them drowning in debt. Erase them." Those casual words were more lethal than any bullet. Vivian turned pale as a ghost. To a vain woman like her, losing her family wealth was worse than death. She crawled toward Silas and hugged his legs tight. "Silas, save me! I swear I didn't know Aria had respiratory failure! He's bluffing!" she shrieked, lying through her teeth. Silas frowned hard. Even faced with hard facts, he actually seemed to be weighing her lie. I watched the man I

The heavy double doors of the banquet hall crashed open. A swarm of armed Secret Service agents flooded the room, securing everyone in seconds. The same socialites who were just mocking me went pale at the sight of high-level federal warrants and assault rifles. "Nobody move! Hand over your phones and step back!" The cold command deadened the room. Flanked by agents, an imposing figure stepped inside. The President of the Federation. My father. Vivian’s knees gave out. She clutched Silas’s sleeve, hiding behind him and shaking like a leaf. "This... this can't be real..." My father's eyes scanned the room. When he saw me lying there covered in blood, pure rage flared in his eyes. He strode over. Vivian was still kneeling nearby, absolutely terrified. My father shot her an icy glare. He didn't lay a finger on her. A rat like her wasn't worth dirtying the President's hands. The Secret Service Director behind him simply waved a hand. Two agents stepped up, yanked Vivian's arms bac

My fingertips were less than an inch away from the life-saving pill.I gritted my teeth. I stretched my shaking arm with all my might. That was my life! The exact second I touched the pill, Vivian rushed over with her designer coat. "Aria, the floor is freezing! Let me wrap you up!" she cried with concern. As she stepped in front of me, her pointed, diamond-studded heel landed directly on my medicine—and my trembling hand. My last hope was crushed into dust.I convulsed violently from the pain. A bitter, agonizing whimper escaped my throat. The back of my hand was instantly torn to bloody shreds.Vivian gasped, stepping back with a hand over her mouth. "Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry, I didn't see your hand there! I was just trying to keep you warm!"She leaned down, her eyes locking onto my neck. There hung a silver necklace. The pendant had Silas's name carved into it.A custom piece for the future Mrs. Thorne. A token Silas had put on me himself."Your breathing is so labored... Thi
