Chapter 2

Author: Ray Blaze
The next day, Wilson smiled brightly as he booked a hotel and threw a massive celebration.

He was over the moon, telling anyone who would listen about his upcoming fatherhood.

I watched him, so full of joy, and decided to let bygones be bygones, thinking maybe that was the start of our happily ever after.

However, then, after the party, his mistress found out I was pregnant and pegged me as the homewrecker.

It turned out that Wilson's other woman was a reporter.

I had seen her on TV, grilling interviewees with her sharp wit, a stunning beauty with an iron will.

I kept tabs on her every move once I knew she was my husband's mistress.

Every time she was on air, I was watching.

Her looks and killer instincts had made her a star in the news world.

They called her the Beauty Sniper online, a nod to her ability to make any story she touched explode into the limelight.

The next night, she became the lead story on the evening news.

"Viewers, after years of being a reporter, I never thought I'd be the one in front of the camera," she said, her eyes red and puffy as if she had been crying, looking into the lens with a mix of anger and stubbornness.

"My boyfriend cheated on me with another woman, who's now pregnant with his child! He says he has to do the right thing for the baby, and that means cutting me out of his life!

"I've always raised my voice against the unfairness in this world. Now, it's time I do it for myself!"

She was adamant, vowing to get justice for herself.

She promised to keep the viewers updated, insisting that the person who wronged her would pay.

I relayed that bombshell to Wilson and asked him why he had not sorted that mess out.

"Wilson, I don't want our child to enter a world of drama!

"If you don't clear this up, I'm considering divorce."

Wilson was livid, denying everything. "I've said we will have a good life, so let's just do that. Stop imagining things!"

His promise made me decide to hold off for a bit longer.

Later that night, as I was strolling around the block, the reporter's car pulled up right next to me!

I was caught off guard when suddenly a crowd encircled me!

Panicked, I yelled, "What's going on?!"

The camera zeroed in on me as she shoved the microphone at me.

"Anna! How long have you been after Wilson? Did you forget he's got a wife like me?!"

Her glare was chilling, and I felt like she might lash out at any moment.

I tried to clear things up. "What are you talking about? Wilson's my husband."

She swung at me with a slap that stung. "Cheater! You've got the nerve to play the other woman and not even own up to it. Trying to trap a guy by getting pregnant? Shameless!"

In a flash, a crowd of furious fans shoved me down, and without thinking, I shielded my stomach.

That only made her angrier. She pushed the burly cameraman's hand, making sure the camera was aimed at my belly.

"Look at her, everyone! This is the cheater who wrecked my marriage and even made my husband want to divorce me.

"Don't think for a second that Wilson would ever stoop to your level!

"I'm a reporter, and I'm not just fighting for love here, I'm standing up for what's right!"

Rowena was on the screen. She looked nothing like the fierce beauty she once was, the one dubbed the Beauty Sniper. She seemed like a bird after a losing fight; her eyes seemed lifeless. The segment started with my viral interview, the one where I was called the other woman. Then, with obvious reluctance, Rowena issued a public apology."I was wrong. I had falsely accused Ms. Chapman. The real homewrecker...was me..." As she confessed, tears of frustration shimmered in Rowena's eyes. However, a second later, the screen went dark.Wilson clicked the TV off and turned toward me. "See? I did everything I promised."She'll be gone soon, out of our lives for good." He took my hand, his face a picture of devotion.I nodded with a weak smile and served him some food.I wanted him to believe I was done talking about divorce—that whatever was weighing on his heart had already been resolved.Wilson beamed, serving me more food and endearingly calling me his dear with each helping.Later

Wilson agreed without hesitation.I told him I did not need a nanny hovering around. I wanted him to take care of me himself.Wilson paused for just a second before nodding his agreement.I was counting down the days until I could leave the hospital. Wilson was gathering my clothes when Rowena burst in, yelling my name like a battle cry.She stopped short at the sight of Wilson, then launched herself at him, fists and feet flying."Wilson! You scumbag! How could you get me fired from the TV station? What right do you have?!"Wilson shoved her away without a hint of sympathy and pulled me into his arms. "I've told you a million times, stop hounding me. I'm not leaving Anna. You wouldn't listen, so I had to get you out of the TV station!"And if you don't back off, I'll make sure you can't even stick around in this town."Rowena's hair was a wild mess, and the dark bruise under her eye made her look all the more worn out.She had clearly been through the wringer those past few d

There was no way I would let Rowena get away with that.Or Wilson! It was all because he had gone and made it official with her, hiding me away, that Rowena got so cocky, thinking she was on the right side of things! My brother caught the news and rushed over. I clung to him as tears streamed down my face. I told him I would divorce Wilson."Anna, think about it," he said. "If you divorce him, won't that just make things easier for that reporter?"I stared at my brother, my eyes searching his. "You don't want me to go through with the divorce?"He shook his head, his eyes steady. "Whatever you decide, I'm behind you 100 percent. Just make sure you've thought it through, okay?"He slid a house contract and a check across the table to me."Your husband gave these to me. Now, they're yours."I could not help but let out a snort. Wilson sure knew how to move fast.Once the honeymoon glow faded, his niceness seemed to shrink down to nothing more than a husband's duty. Sure, he was

Rowena was a mess; all her earlier confidence was gone. She clung to Wilson desperately."Wilson, please, you have to help me!"Wilson stared at her, his eyes hard with anger, but he did not shove her away."Officers, this is a family issue. We'll handle it ourselves, if you don't mind."Wilson pulled out the video Rowena had made, trying to prove she had not touched me and suggesting they talk to the doctor, who could back him up.I could not believe he was trying to cover for Rowena. I was about to call him out on it when tears betrayed me, streaming down my face."How can you? Are you even human? Are you still my husband?"Your mistress killed your son. I can't even have kids anymore. And you're still taking her side?"Wilson, have you ever really loved me?"Wilson gripped my hand, looking torn as he begged me in a hushed tone, saying, "Anna, I'm not taking her side. We can't let this get out, or my bigamy will be uncovered. And Rowena's career as a reporter will be over.

Rowena, ever the reporter, came in with her recorder pen. She gave me a quick look and then questioned the doctor. "Doctor, how is she?"The doctor, recognizing her after a beat, answered quietly, "Ms. Chapman had a miscarriage. It's going to be tough for her to get pregnant again."Rowena's eyes flicked back to me, full of scorn. "Such a shame; you can't play the other woman with a baby anymore."I was drained. My eyes were burning with hate as I glared at Wilson. "Wilson, tell her, what am I to you?"Wilson looked wrecked, like he had not quite grasped the miscarriage yet. However, Rowena read his silence as my final joke, sauntering to loop her arm through Wilson's. "Wilson, she's lost the baby. She won't bother you now. Tell her to let go. What are we to each other?"The second she touched Wilson, he snapped awake, his hand flying out and sending Rowena stumbling back."You killed my son! You monster!"The whole room froze. The doctors and nurses, sensing the tension, quick

When I came to, I was in the hospital. My first instinct was to check on my belly. "My baby... My baby..."The oxygen mask muffled my frail voice. The nurse, who was adjusting my IV, heard me stir and ran off to get the doctor.Minutes later, the doctor arrived. He let out a heavy sigh and gently broke the news, saying, "Ms. Chapman, I'm sorry, but you've lost your child."I stared blankly at the ceiling, a sense of despair engulfing me, deeper than any physical pain.Deep down, I had already known. My once-rounded belly was then flat, and I could not feel my baby's presence anymore."This was my first pregnancy—""Ms. Chapman, try to stay calm. A miscarriage, especially one this late, takes a toll on your body. If you want to heal—""Will I be able to have another baby?" I turned, my eyes brimming with sorrow, and looked at the doctor. The doctor would not meet my eyes, and that was when I lost it.My sobs tore through the silence of the hospital ward as I tried to scramble
