Chapter 428

Author: Flower Sock
Natalie froze for a moment.

What was going on? How did the effect of the sedative wear off so quickly?

Before she could react, Anathea yanked her forward. The sudden force spun them around, switching their positions in an instant.

Their eyes locked. And in that fleeting moment, Natalie saw the icy, unflinching determination burning in Anathea's gaze that hadn't been there before.

Then, without hesitation, Anathea let go.

Her body tipped backward, and she fell straight down the staircase.

"Oh my god!" Isabel covered her mouth in shock.

Everyone watched, horrified, as the slender figure tumbled down the stairs and dropped on the floor.

Natalie stood frozen at the top of the stairs, her eyes wide with disbelief.

No. This wasn't how it was supposed to go. She was supposed to be the one who fell. Anathea had flipped the situation completely.

Suddenly, Natalie felt the heat of a hundred eyes turning on her. Curious. Suspicious. Judging.

Her knees buckled, and she nearly collapsed.

Theo froze. "Does that mean… you agreed?"He didn't even realize it himself, but his voice trembled with excitement as he looked at Anathea eagerly. For a moment, he doubted if he had seen it right. But Anathea nodded again, confirming that she had agreed. She needed his help to break free from this prison.Overwhelmed, Theo covered his mouth in excitement. But he quickly glanced outside the ward. Seeing no sign of Gregory, he breathed a small sigh of relief.Knowing Gregory's temperament, if he found out Anathea was determined to leave, he would probably lose it on the spot. There was no way Theo could let that happen. So Theo lowered his voice and told Anathea, "I'll figure out a way to arrange everything in the coming days. You just need to eat well and get your strength back. Trust me. I'll help you get out of here.""Thank you, Theo," Anathea said seriously."Oh, don't say that. I'm happy to do it." Theo smiled. He was elated. Anathea finally needed his help. That meant sh

"Oh shit!" Theo flailed nervously, unsure where to put the flower, as if it were scorching hot in his hands.Seeing his flustered expression, Anathea tugged her lip in amusement. "Are you sure you really learned from Lena?""Of course!" Theo's eyes flickered with a hint of guilt. "Though she kept telling me not to let anyone know she taught me."Anathea couldn't help but smile. That was because Lena knew how terrible Theo's flower arranging actually was. If people found out she taught him, it would be a serious blow to her reputation."You finally smiled." Theo's concern was fixed on her.Anathea paused, pressing her lips together."Smile more. It'll help you feel better," Theo added with a grin, showing off his perfectly straight teeth. "Just like this."Anathea curled her lips slightly. "So you came here just to make me laugh?""Of course." Theo nodded. He didn't want to see her so down."Oh, and I brought some food too." He pulled out a box of cookies from his bag. "These

Louie rushed forward to catch Gregory, who was on the verge of collapsing. His eyes turned red-rimmed."What's with the doom and gloom? Didn't we already expect this?" Gregory's pale lips curved into the faintest hint of a smile. "Relax. I'm not dying yet."Still, he gripped Louie's hand tightly and said seriously, "Don't tell Annie about this.""Gregory Sinclair!" Louie nearly exploded. "Why not go all the way and keep it from me too? That way I can just show up later to collect your damn corpse!""Wouldn't be the worst idea.""You dickhead!" Louie snapped, blinking back tears.Gregory gave him a silent pat on the shoulder as a gesture of comfort. After cleaning the blood off himself, Gregory was dragged by Louie for a proper checkup. As they walked down the corridor, they ran into Theo, who was holding a bouquet of fresh flowers.Theo froze for a second when he saw Gregory. It had only been a few days, yet Gregory looked noticeably thinner. He was even leaning against Louie f

When Louie saw that the storm in Gregory's eyes was finally calming, he finally let out a breath of relief. However, he was still exasperated."Do you really have to be like this with Anathea?"Louie had overheard their bitter exchanges inside the ward and was at a loss."Anathea hates you because you've lied to her again and again and refused to tell her the truth. You always see things from your own perspective and expect her to accept everything you think is best. But have you ever asked what she actually wants?"Gregory's breath caught."I know you'll say you're doing all of this to protect her. But be honest with yourself. Have you really kept her safe?"Louie pushed up his glasses and continued calmly, "You didn't tell her about Adam's situation. That gave Natalie a chance to provoke her. You put a tracker on her bracelet and sent a whole team of bodyguards to watch her. But it was because of all of that that you misjudged the situation, wasn't it?"Right. If he hadn't bee

Louie didn't even get a chance to read Gregory's expression before he saw him slam the glass of water down on the table and stride straight toward Anathea's ward.Louie shook his head with a sigh. "Some couples fight using money. These two fight with their lives."Anathea was already sitting up, gazing out the window. The night was pitch-black, with only a handful of scattered stars dotting the sky.The door to the ward burst open with a loud thud, and Gregory strode in.His eyes went straight to the untouched food on the table and the bowl of soup, which had already gone cold. Rage instantly surged through his chest. He closed his eyes for a moment and told the nurse to reheat the soup. The nurse was so frightened by the dark look on his face that she nearly wished she had rockets on her shoes. She rushed off to warm the soup and quickly brought it back, setting it down in front of Anathea. She whispered carefully, "Mrs. Sinclair, please at least drink the soup. Your health mat

Could it be proof that Anathea still had some feelings left for Gregory?"Annie..." Gregory rested his chin on the blanket wrapped around her head. But he got no response. Anathea sat completely still, unnervingly quiet."Annie?" Gregory paused. A chill suddenly ran down his spine, spreading through his whole body.He pulled back the blanket covering her face and saw that her eyes were closed. Her pale complexion was almost translucent under the sunlight.A faint scent of blood hung in the air.Gregory froze for a moment, then quickly threw off the blanket covering her, only to find a large bloodstain spreading across it. Deep cuts from sharp shards marked her wrist."Annie!"Gregory's heart-wrenching scream echoed inside the car.…Louie was driving back when Gregory's call came through. His face paled instantly. "Turn around. Now!""What's wrong?" Adrian asked, confused."Anathea cut her wrist." Louie's face grew serious.Adrian was stunned by the news. Surprise filled h
