「俺、浮気したんだ」

彼は私の座る助手席を指さし、残酷な笑みを浮かべた。

「昨日はあいつがここに座って、俺にキスしてきた。ずいぶん色っぽい格好をしててさ、我慢できなくなって、そのままヤった」

二度目の裏切りだった。

私はその場で固まり、苦しさのあまり、ひと言も声が出なかった。

けれど陸は、なおもその余韻に浸るように言った。

「今なら拓海の気持ちがわかるよ。遥はたしかに、お前より女としての色気がある」

成瀬拓海（なるせ たくみ）は私の元夫で、清水遥（しみず はるか）はかつての親友だった。

五年前、私は二人がベッドを共にしているところを目撃した。

何もかもが嫌になっていたあのとき、私を救ってくれたのは陸だった。

陸は眉をひょいと上げた。

「もう聞こえただろ」

その言葉が落ちると同時に、スピーカーから再び遥の声が響いた。

「彩葉、五年ぶりね。やっぱりあんた、私が思った通り、相変わらず気が弱いんだ。でも男を見る目だけは昔からずっといいわね。この人、私もかなり気に入ったわ」

嘲るような笑い声が、四肢を痺れさせた。

意識が遠のくなか、私は五年前に引き戻された気がした。

私は出張を切り上げて、元夫の拓海の誕生日を祝おうと思っていた。

けれど家に入った瞬間、目にしたのは、窓辺で拓海と遥が情事にふけっている姿だった。

私に気づいた拓海は、うろたえてどうしていいかわからない様子だった。

けれど遥は得意げに煙草に火をつけた。

「彩葉、ごめんね。恋人がいない時期って退屈で寂しくてさ。ちょっとあんたの旦那、借りただけ」

あのときの私もまさにこうだった。

涙を流しながら、遥に、そして拓海に尋ねた。

「どうして？」

けれど二人が口を開いて何か答えていても、耳に綿でも詰められたみたいで、何ひとつ聞こえなかった。

やがて遥と拓海が顔を青ざめさせて叫んだ。

下腹部が、腰を伸ばしていられないほど痛んだ。

そこでようやく我に返り、私はうつむいた。見ると、足もとは血で真っ赤に染まっていた。

その日、私は人生でいちばん大切な三つのものを同時に失った。

十年来の親友と、結婚して一年の夫、そして妊娠三か月だったお腹の子を。
