Julian's pov

By the time Niles pulls the car into the driveway, the world outside is dead quiet. I loosen my tie, running a hand through my hair as the engine goes still.

ā€œIt’s been a long night,ā€ Niles says as he steps out. ā€œI’ll turn in now, sir. Do you need anything before I go?ā€

I shake my head. ā€œNo, Niles. Goodnight.ā€

ā€œGoodnight, sir.ā€

The door closes behind him, and suddenly I’m standing in an ocean of silence. The house feels heavier than usual, like the walls themselves are pressing in.

I walk to the bar, searching for the bottle I always reach for after a night like this but it’s not there. My eyes sweep the counter and land on it, half empty, next to a glass that’s still holding a little amber liquid.

So she’s been here.

I stare at the glass for a long moment before picking up the bottle and putting it straight to my lips. The burn is sharp but It doesn’t numb the weight sitting on my chest, but it dulls it for a second.

I shrug off my jacket, toss it over a chair, and unbu

Isabella's pov I was still drying the same plate, even though it had been clean for minutes now. My mind was scattered, too many thoughts, too many feelings I didn’t want to name.Suddenly, he moved. Julian stepped closer until I could feel the warmth radiating from his body behind me. Then, gently, he took the rag from my hand. His fingers brushed against mine, light, careful and he set the rag down on the counter.ā€œIsabellaā€¦ā€ His voice was lower now, rougher around the edges. ā€œI’m sorry… for everything I said yesterday. I had no excuse to speak to you like that.ā€I blinked at the sink, swallowing hard. It was the last thing I expected to hear from him. Slowly, I nodded. ā€œOkay.ā€I turned back toward the dishes, but before I could reach for another plate, his fingers tilted my chin upward, firm yet gentle. My breath caught.ā€œLook at me,ā€ he murmured. And I did. Our eyes locked, his dark and unreadable, mine probably wide and confused. The air felt heavy between us, like something uns

Isabella's pov I was setting the table for dinner, carefully placing the plates and cutlery the way Niles had taught me. The house was silent, and for once, I liked it that way. It gave me time to think, or rather, time not to think about everything swirling inside my chest. I had just placed the last fork down when the sound of heels clicking against the marble floor echoed from the hallway. When I turned, the last person I expected to see was standing in the doorway. The blonde woman Julian kissed, tall, perfect, and confident, strutted into the dining room as if she owned the place. Her scarlet heels clicked with every step, her short, white tight dress hugging her body like it was made for sin. In my mind, the first word that popped up was Santa and not the cheerful, red suited one.Her eyes scanned the room, then landed on me. ā€œAnd who are you?ā€ she asked, voice dripping with disdain.I opened my mouth to answer, but she waved her hand dismissively. ā€œOh wait, don’t tell me. You’

Isabella's pov The cool night wind nipped at my bare shoulders, but I barely felt it. I stood rooted on the balcony, eyes fixed on the glittering skyline below, as if the stars might offer me answers I didn’t already know.God, how pathetic could I get?I wiped at my cheeks furiously, erasing the tears as if they never existed. Crying over a man who didn’t even look back… over a marriage that was nothing but a business arrangement. I had forgotten my place. I had been stupid enough to believe there was something real hiding behind the practiced smiles and rehearsed touches.Delusional, that’s what I was.I wrapped my arms around myself, trying to shake off the ache clawing at my chest when a low voice cut through the silence.ā€œAren’t you cold?ā€I stiffened and turned just enough to see Caleb step onto the balcony, his expression irritatingly casual. Before I could answer, he was shrugging off his suit jacket and draping it over my shoulders.ā€œThank you,ā€ I muttered, keeping my gaze o

Isabella's pov Julian’s icy glare was enough to shut Caleb up. Without a word, he guided me away, his hand firm on my lower back as we weaved through the glittering crowd. My heartbeat was still uneven from that little encounter, but I tried to match his calm, composed stride. We stopped by a long marble table lined with crystal glasses filled with wine and champagne. Julian reached for one, handed it to me, then picked one for himself.ā€œDon’t mind Caleb,ā€ he said, his tone softer now, almost reassuring. ā€œHe’s always been like that. Just enjoy the partyā€¦ā€Before he could finish, a woman in her mid fifties approached us with a polite smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. ā€œJulian, darling,ā€ she said sweetly, ā€œwhy on earth didn’t you invite anyone to your wedding?ā€Julian’s lips curved into a smooth, practiced smile. ā€œIt was a private affair,ā€ he replied. ā€œI didn’t want to cause a scene. Niles, my trusted butler, was a witness and that was enough.ā€As they spoke, another woman approac

Isabella's pov The knock on my door came just as I was brushing out my hair, the rhythmic thud pulling me from my thoughts.ā€œCome in,ā€ I called softly. The door opened to reveal Niles, his ever present polite smile resting on his lips as he stepped inside with his usual quiet grace. In his hands was a long garment bag, the kind that screamed expensive before I even saw what was inside. Balanced carefully under his arm was a shoebox and a small velvet jewelry box.ā€œGood evening, Miss Isabella,ā€ he greeted, setting the items gently on the edge of my bed. ā€œMr. Rothwell has an event tonight. You are to accompany him.ā€My heart skipped. ā€œAn event?ā€ā€œA gala,ā€ he clarified. ā€œA rather important one.ā€I stared at the dress bag as if it held my destiny. My fingers twitched with nervousness, but I managed a small smile. ā€œThank you, Niles.ā€He gave a polite nod and turned to leave, but before he reached the door, words tumbled from my lips. ā€œNiles… wait.ā€He paused, glancing back at me. ā€œYes, Mi
