Amelia

Sneaking out of the building is the easiest part. Roy, to his credit, didn’t lie about knowing the territory and everything about the guard posts.

As we avoid one of the posts, my foot catches on a rock and Roy catches me before I fall. “Be careful, there’s a lot of rocks out here. Try to keep your eyes on the ground,” he whispers gently.

“Thank you,” I breathe out as he steadies me.

Roy nods sharply, glances around the empty street, then clears his throat. “Maybe I should carry you?” He mutters and even in the darkness, I can see his cheeks turn a little red.

I open my mouth to assure him I can walk, but before a sound can leave me, Roy bends down and scoops me in his arms, then starts walking like I weigh nothing.

I wrap my arms around his neck to hold on while we cross another somewhat wooded area. “This is the last park of the Capital center territory,” he explains quietly.

Looking around, I nod. “I didn’t tell you this yet, but I plan to leave through the northern bo

AmeliaSophia exchanges another quick glance with Nina, then clears her throat and squeezes my hand just a little tighter, “Amelia, listen, the decision was made only for your good.” “My good?” I choke out and try to pull my hand out of her hold. “How is taking the one thing I love doing from me anything good? I don’t get it.” “I get that this doesn’t look good,” she says softly and sighs. “But trust me, it is for the best. Alpha Ethan is worried about your health. You’re six months pregnant, he doesn’t want you to overwork yourself, so he made it clear that you must stop seeing patients, and instead, should focus on resting.”I can feel my face fall with disappointment. Working at the hospital has been the highlight of my days and if I don’t get to do it anymore, I’m not sure what I would do at all. Just sitting and doing nothing will make me lose my mind. “Don’t be upset,” Nina perks up and grins at me like she has all the answers in the world. “How about I provide you company or

AmeliaOnce I get over the initial shock, I turn on my heel and take off towards the border. As soon as I reach it, I go to find the cave near which Ethan promised to wait for me. Thankfully, it’s not hard to find it and when I near it, Ethan emerges, followed by Michael. I let out a sigh of relief the moment I see them both. Ethan wants to hug me, but Michael rushes to me and grabs my shoulders, already checking for injuries. “Amelia, why is there blood on you? Are you hurt?” He asks, voice laced with genuine concern. Shaking my head, I flash him a reassuring smile, “that’s not my blood.” Michael’s eyes widen and his breath catches. “Not your blood?” He chokes out, “what do you mean?” Although I don’t want to talk about it, I understand it’s best I don’t keep any details a secret, so I explain what happened. “Katherine, she paid the guard to kill me. Apparently, she didn’t want me just gone, but actually dead. To protect myself and the baby, I had no other choice but to kill hi

Logan“Well,” Derrick speaks up long before I manage to process everything. “I think it’s pretty clear that this accident is the result of Amelia attempting to flee the Capital without permission. She must have gotten her hands on someone’s car and caused the crash.” “No,” I growl and close my hand around the necklace. “It can’t be that. I refuse to believe it! Amelia isn’t irresponsible like that, she’s loyal to a fault and if she wanted to leave, she’d just tell you and ask for permission!” “Logan, don’t be ridiculous,” Derrick growls and glares at me. “You see everything with your own eyes, it’s clear what happened here. Don’t go around trying to excuse her doings—she didn’t just cause the crash, she also killed one of my guards!” Rage boils within me. I can’t believe my own cousin would go to lengths like this—to accuse Amelia of killing someone while she couldn’t hurt a fly is outrageous.Slowly, I turn my head to look at Derrick. “I don’t believe what happened here was just a

LoganI’m startled awake by a loud explosion. My senses are instantly on alert as I sit up in the bed and look around the dark room frantically. Katherine screams next to me, wraps her arms around me and presses herself against my body. Confused, I slowly wrap my arms around her and hold her as I try to understand what’s going on. “What happened?” I whisper, more to myself than her. “I have no idea,” Katherine whines and presses herself against me more. “I’ll go check,” I tell her and try to pull away. Katherine refuses to let go. “No, Logan, whatever happened can be dealt with by the king and his pack members. What if it’s not safe out there? I don’t want you to risk getting hurt.”While I understand she means well, I don’t appreciate her attempt to hold me back from going to investigate what’s going on. Even more so because I have this uneasy, uncomfortable feeling in my stomach that I need to get rid of. Slowly, I push her hands away from me, “I’m going to be fine. I need to

AmeliaLogan’s steps nearing us echo in the silence and suddenly, Katherine stands in front of me. She catches me completely off guard when she wraps her arms around me and pulls me in an insanely tight hug. Then, she turns her head and flashes the brightest smile as she addresses Logan. “Oh, hey,” she calls out cheerfully. “I just wanted to check on Amelia since she didn’t attend the dinner and we decided to have a walk out here. I heard that fresh air helps.” “Fresh air, huh?” Logan repeats with a hint of disbelief to his voice as he walks even closer. “Yes!” Katherine calls out and I almost wonder if she can hear how fake she sounds. “Thankfully, since Amelia is a doctor, she has no issue following her own symptoms and she promised me that she’s fully recovered.”Just as she finishes talking, Logan stops in front of us and stares at me with nothing but suspicion. It’s clear he isn’t buying the excuse, but I decide to avoid saying anything, fearing my voice might betray me. Befo
