Nikki was curious to know what the outcome of my conversation had been but I was more keen on dismissing her. I wanted to spend time with her and even force her to stay overnight but if I had to deal with my Rebecca situation before it was too late, I knew that now was the right time.
"She is predictable, she said she wanted to say hello because she was passing by." I rubbed the back of my neck, knowing how obvious that was if a lie.
She crossed one leg over the other and raised one suspicious eyebrow at me. "Chad..."
"Nikki, just ignore her please." I sat in front of her and poured her a glass of cold water. "You look like you can really use some of that."
She didn't say anything in response, successfully making me further uncomfortable.
"I'm sorry." I heaved a sighed, "trust me." felt a omo grow in my throat from saying the words especially knowing I was not worthy of her trust
