“We’re home.”

Xavier’s voice cut through the noise in my head.

I blinked, realizing I hadn’t registered the last few minutes of the drive.

My hand moved automatically to the seatbelt, unfastening it with a soft click.

The car door opened before I could reach for it.

Xavier stood there, one hand resting lightly against the door, the other waiting.

I hesitated for half a second before placing my hand in his.

He helped me out without a word.

The night air felt cooler than it should have or maybe i

The jet moved smoothly across the runway before finally coming to a stop.A voice came over the speakers.“Welcome to Milan. Local time is 2:17 p.m. and the weather is a pleasant twenty-six degrees Celsius. We hope you enjoy your stay in Italy.”I smiled before I could stop myself.Italy.I was actually in Italy.Xavier stood first, buttoning his shirt.“Ready?”I nodded immediately.“I’ve been ready since we left New York.”That earned me the smallest smile.Unlike every airport scene I’d ever seen on television, we didn’t walk into a crowded terminal.A sleek black SUV was already waiting a short distance from the aircraft. Before we got there, a woman dressed in an elegant navy uniform greeted us with a warm smile.“Good afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Crest.”There it was again.Mrs. Crest.I was beginnin

I stood at the foot of the staircase, staring at the two large suitcases Xavier had somehow packed in less than thirty minutes.Mine, on the other hand, took me almost two days. I glanced at him suspiciously.“How did you even finish packing that quickly?”He looked up from the tablet in his hand.“I travel often.”“Still… that’s suspicious.”He shrugged. “I know what I need.”“I don’t.”“I noticed.”I frowned. “What is that supposed to mean?”“You packed enough clothes for a month.”“We’re going for three weeks.”“Exactly.”I scoffed.“I’m preparing for every possible situation.”His lips twitched. “I sincerely hope you didn’t pack snow boots.”I looked away.“…They’re comfortable.”He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that.”A smile threatened my lips.We arrived at the airport an hour later. I expected us to pull into the busy airport like I always see on television.Instead, Xavier’s car turned into a completely different entrance. There were no

The shopping mall was buzzing with people, despite it being only a Thursday afternoon.I adjusted the strap of my handbag as Ava linked her arm through mine the moment we stepped inside.“I have been waiting for this day,” she announced dramatically.“We’re shopping for me, not you.”“Exactly,” she nodded. “Which means I get to spend your husband’s money.”I laughed.“It’s not his money.”She stopped walking and looked at me.“…Sydney.”“What?”“He literally handed you his card.”“So?”“So…” she repeated. “That’s exactly what his money looks like.”“I still feel weird using it.”She groaned.“You’ve married one of the richest men in New York and you’re acting like you&r

“Oh my gosh! I can’t believe you’re going to Italy!” Ava squealed excitedly as I broke the news to her over the phone.“I know, right?” I said, unable to hide my excitement.“Oh, we’re definitely going shopping. You need new clothes, a new bag, a new look. Heck, you need to renew everything!” she rattled off in one breath.“You sound even more excited than I am. Girl, chill,” I chuckled.“Oh, you have no idea. I wish I could trade places with you right now.”“Even with a fake husband and a fake honeymoon?”“Well, Italy isn’t fake. The vacation isn’t fake. The pictures won’t be fake. I’d take it regardless. A win is a win.”I burst out laughing in amusement. This fake marriage does come with its perks.“I assume the baggage comes with your wish too. The bloggers, paparazzi, scandals, the crazy ex, and everything else.”“Err… okay, I take that back. I’d rather chase clients and sales targets.”I rolled my eyes as if she could see me.“But still, I’m so jealous. Oh my gosh. I should be t

  • Xavier my Nemesis!    CHAPTER 33 Away From Drama

I sat in the living room, trying to watch a movie.Anything to take my mind off the discomfort I had been feeling in my body.I had barely managed to focus on the plot when I felt the familiar urge to pee. I sighed and pushed myself off the couch. On my way back, I passed Xavier’s room. His door was slightly ajar, and I caught a glimpse of him leaning back in his office chair, scrolling through his phone. He looked completely comfortable. I envied him.I continued to the living room and settled back onto the couch, pulling the blanket over myself and snuggling deeper into the cushions. It was chilly outside, and with the air conditioning running, the living room was even colder than usual.I adjusted the blanket around my shoulders and tried to focus on the movie again. But my eyelids were beginning to feel heavy. The pain medication the doctor had prescribed was making me drowsy, and before long, the movie

The morning of the procedure arrived much faster than I expected. After checking in at the clinic, a nurse led me to a private room where I changed into a pale blue hospital gown.I sat on the edge of the bed, nervously twisting my wedding ring around my finger while a nurse checked my blood pressure one final time.“You’ll be under light anesthesia,” she explained kindly. “You’ll be asleep throughout the procedure so that you won’t feel any pain.”I nodded, though my stomach continued to churn. The nurse smiled. “Do you have any questions before we take you in?”I glanced at Xavier who stood beside the bed with his hands tucked into the pockets of his trousers. He looked impossibly calm.I envied him.“No.” “Ready?” he asked.I let out a shaky laugh. “Not even a little.”He pulled a chair beside the bed and sat down.“You’ll be fine.”“I know.”“You don’t sound convinced.”“I’m trying to be brave.”“You already are.”The simple words eased some of the tension knotting in my chest.A

“Whoa! I yawned, exhausted from the day’s work. • Xavier my Nemesis!    CHAPTER 5 Rejection

I left the office very aggravated. Who does Xavier think he is?..... To propose a flimsy fake marriage to me. Does he think I am one of his whores? I wondered to myself. I hadn’t even bothered to read the whole of the contract before I rejected it. I started to blame myself for saying no when he a
