Chapter 9

Yin Xiaoxiao's heart dropped when she saw that pair of shabby shoes. She guessed that the owner of this pair of shabby shoes was probably poor, so would she be able to get Li Meng and Yin Ruoyun off her back if she brought this man home?

She looked down and gave the matter some thought.

She hadn't thought too much about this the night before and just as Yin Ruoyun predicted, she had only planned to ask her classmate for a favor in hopes of getting her parents off her back. However, after the conversation she had overheard last night, she knew this wouldn't be easily resolved...

Yin Xiaoxiao was willing to marry someone who was poor as long as he was honest and practical, but she knew that her family wouldn't approve. Nonetheless, she wasn't someone who would back down once she had decided to do something.

"Hm, I'm not sure. I don't care whether she wants to leave or not." She heard a familiar husky voice say.

She instinctively looked up and realized that there was nobody on this street. In other words, there wasn't anyone else except for her and the man whose back was facing her who was about to walk away.

She stole a quick glance at the corner of the street and saw that the man she had been waiting for had not shown up but for some reason, she immediately knew that the 23rd man was the man on the phone...

As a woman, she was still a little scared of approaching a stranger and asking him to marry her. All of a sudden, her phone rang and when she picked up the call, she realized it was Li Meng.

"Xiaoxiao, your dad and I are waiting for you at home. Please bring your boyfriend home soon," Li Meng said smugly and tacked on an additional line. It would have driven her crazy if she ever realized that this additional line was what ultimately gave Yin Xiaoxiao the courage to approach the man. "It's alright even if you don't have a boyfriend. Uncle Zhang is waiting for you here."

Yin Xiaoxiao hung up and took a deep breath. She felt as though she could still hear Li Meng's laughter echoing in her ears.

She curled her hands into fists and grabbed her bag tightly as she ran up to the 23rd man and tugged at the corner of his shirt. The man who was on the phone stopped in his tracks and slowly turned to face her. She heard him say before he hung up. "Forget it then. I don't like such people."

Her mind went blank and she didn't know what to do. She didn't even dare to lift her head to look up at him but she squeezed her eyes shut and worked up the courage to speak at the thought of Li Meng and Yin Ruoyun waiting for her at home.

She knew that she would live to regret it if she backed out now, so she said in a high-pitched tone, "Do you dare to marry me?"

Jing Liyuan's eyes narrowed as he looked at the familiar woman. He pursed his lips and said, "Sure. Fortunately, I've got my household registration booklet with me, so let's go register our marriage."

Yin Xiaoxiao's head immediately snapped up as she recognized the familiar timbre of his voice and she was stunned to see that it was Jing Liyuan.

Why was it this man again?

Had she offended him in some way?

Why did she have to run into this man at the two lowest points of her life?

Yin Xiaoxiao impulsively felt like turning to leave as though nothing had happened. She suddenly wanted to start again!

Unfortunately, Jing Liyuan wasn't going to let her off the hook so easily.

Yin Xiaoxiao wasn't very short at 1.68 meters, but at 1.88 meters, Jing Liyuan towered over her. She immediately seemed very petite next to him and before she could react, she was pulled into his Land Rover that was parked at the side of the road.

The black Land Rover looked both understated and intimidating at the same time. Yin Xiaoxiao suddenly had a funny thought and felt like Jing Liyuan resembled the Land Rover at that moment.

She was still in a daze after they emerged from the Civil Affairs Bureau. This was the first time she had proposed to someone. So was that all there was to getting married? All she had to do was to pay a few yuan, take a photograph, and sign her name on the papers, and she was married?

She turned to look at the man beside her. She had only found out his name earlier when they had collected their marriage licenses.

His name was Jing Liyuan.

Jing Liyuan turned to look at the woman beside him with a slight frown. He had never been an impulsive person, so why was he being so spontaneous this time? This was something that he had to give some thought to...

However, he was clearly more interested in his new wife for now.
