Gerard's sly words cut into Beverly's heart like a knife. If not for her hearing the words right from his mouth, she would never have believed that her own father had abducted her.

He used to treat her so well. She wouldn't even have believed that he'd betrayed Elaine if she hadn't caught him messing around with Quinn, who'd pretended to be a maid in their home.

"I thought she was lucky enough that the fire didn't kill her. Who would've known that she'd even end up as the wife of Alterra's wealthiest man?
