“You heard me loud and clear! You think you're the only one who's tired? My job is at stake, and you think this is the time to pretend to be sick?!” Naomi took a deep breath, she's not going to let Tita get into her head so early in the morning. “I called in sick because I was sick. And Mr Damon told me to take the day off..” Tita laughed in mockery. “You think I'm going to believe that THE DAMON SINCLAIR, told you to take the day off?” Naomi exhaled, why the hell did she mention Damon out of the blue? What good is this going to bring to this conversation? “Look, forget I said that. I asked the HR about taking the day off, and she told me I could.” “I don't care what she told you! Your discretion should have told me that this is a horrible time for a break! You were doing just fine hours ago, and all of a sudden, you're sick?!” “I…” Naomi stammered “You're lying, aren't you? If you're sick, why don't you show me the reports from the hospital then uh? You're telling me the HR allowed you to take a break without proof of your illness? That makes no sense!” Tita had no clue how close Naomi was with Gina, the HR. “I would never lie about something kike this. I've been working with the company for years and I never took a break! The HR understands that whatever my reason for being absent is, it's very much valid.” Naomi snapped. “Are you raising your voice at me? The audacity of this woman!” Naomi exhaled, maybe she shouldn't have yelled like that. “I am sick Tita, and whatever proof you need, I won't be able to provide it for you. The HR didn't request for one and I don’t see a reason why I have to present you with my medical history.” Naomi blurted out before she could control herself. “I am your team leader! I have every right to know why you're not at work!” “And I explained to you that I am sick. What else do you want from me? You made me stay back at the office, re-doing the presentation for hours on end, and…” “That's your job! Am I getting your paycheck? That's literally your job! You're telling me you feel sick doing a job you clearly are terrible at? Gina might buy that but I'm no fool!” “I'm not saying you are..” “You slept off at a man's house, didn't you? A man you're whoring around with! Didn't you?!” Tita snapped “Wait, what?!” “You heard me! That explains everything! You're just some stupid whore playing sick! Of course, what was I expecting from a divorcee trying to pay her bills? I get it.” Naomi's fist balled in anger. She's had enough of Tita calling her a whore! She had no bloody right to call her names! Neither should she allow her to disrespect her this way… “Miss Tita? Your attention is needed at the CEO’s office.” A voice said in the background. Naomi heard Tita gasp in the background. “Mr Damon? He wants to see me?” “I believe so. He's waiting.” “Yes. I shouldn't keep him waiting.” Tita said in excitement. “Did you hear that? The CEO wants to see me. Just wait till I tell him what you did and how you've been slacking at work! “ The line drops, and Naomi feels an overwhelming urge to toss her phone to the wall and scream in frustration. And why the hell did Damon ask to see Tita anyway? ♡♡ Tita glanced at her reflection on the glass walls on her way to Damon's office, pulling her hair in place and reapplying her lip balm. From the way she held onto her phone and the excitement in her eyes, she was looking forward to seeing her boss. She placed a knock on his door and said in her sweetest voice. “Mr Damon, it's Tita.” No response. Tita clears her throat once more. “Sir? You asked to see me. May I come in?” She asked once more. “Come in.” Patrick said and Tita strolled into the office, shutting the door behind them with the mannerisms of a lovesick high schooler. “Good afternoon Mr Damon. I hope your day has been nothing short of lovely.” She asked, staring at Damon in excitement. Damon glanced up from the screen in front of him, his expression as cold as ever. He returned his gaze back to the screen without saying a word. Tita winced but had her smile in place regardless. Patrick cleared his throat. “Miss Tita, you're here because there's a bit of a problem with your work.” Patrick started. “My work? What happened?” Tita asked, seeming worried. “Your work has been..good. But, the problem is with your leadership and your relationship with Ms Naomi.” Tita chuckled. “I knew it was only a matter of time before her incompetence became known to the management..” Damon's eyes settled on Tita, ice cold and unfeeling. His entire body tensed up as he stared at Tita in silence. “Mr Patrick, I understand that Mr Damon's empire wants nothing short of perfection. He wouldn't be able to build something this great if he had incompetent staff. I'm sure that his intentions with Diaz are no different but Mrs Naomi is not someone you want to have on board if you want the company to move forward..” Patrick stared at Tita blankly. “Miss Tita, I would advise..” “I understand that you want to confirm with me about Mrs Naomi's performance, but all I can say is, she's better off in the janitor's closet! She's so lazy and unwilling to work, she's always having one argument or another with her co-workers, and she's exceptionally disrespectful towards me.. “ Damon chuckled, leaning back on his seat and studying Tita in amusement. “Really?” Tita nods eagerly. “Yes sir. Do you know she's a divorcee? And that she's been seducing all the married men in the company? Not only is she incompetent, she's…sleeping around as well.” “Miss Tita, I'll advise you to be more careful with your use of words.” Patrick cautioned. “No. Let her talk. It seems she has a lot to air out and it's only right that she does.” Damon said and turned back to Tita. “Tell me more.” “Sir, she took a break from work today, claiming she's sick. But between you and I, she spent the night with a married man in a brothel! She's so shameless, sir, and working with the likes of her is of no good! She was even trying to seduce you, sir! Like you would ever glance her way!” Tita adds. Damon chuckled once more, his eyes moving from Partick to Tita in amusement. “And all this is true?” “Yes sir! I wouldn't dare to lie to you! She claimed you told her to take a break from work too! Can you believe that, sir?” “Patrick, show Mrs Tita the CCTV footage of her tossing coffee in Naomi's face a few weeks ago.. “ Tita's face paled.Damon didn’t remember the walk back to his office. The board was in chaos after Jack's arrest and he was forced to postpone whatever this was and address them once he understands what's going on. How did the police find evidence on Jack? He was still discussing with Caleb the last time he stopped by his house…The office door closed behind him. Patrick remained standing a few steps back, hands folded in front of him. The past few days have been difficult because of Naomi's demise. He had shed a few tears himself, recalling how sweet she had been and how much she brightened the life of his grumpy boss. Damon crossed the room slowly, dropping his phone onto the desk without looking at it. He stood there for a long moment, palms resting against the polished surface, head bowed slightly. Patrick wanted to speak but he couldn't find the right words to say. He'd taken him a lot to get Damon down to the office as soon as he learned Jack had called for a secret meeting. Now, the issue h
Jack stood in front of the mirror in his private office in Pearl, suit jacket already on, tie knotted, staring at his reflection. His phone lay on the counter, face down. He was yet to receive a response from the driver and it's been over four hours. He clenched the edge of the sink until his knuckles whitened; did he run to the cops like he said? He straightened his cuffs, smoothed his jacket. He had men in the police station who would call him if anything happened.Jack walked towards the door, today was for something else. “Cancel my next meeting,” Jack said as he passed his assistant. “And find the driver.”The assistant hesitated. “Sir?”“Find him,” Jack repeated, voice low. “And make sure he doesn’t speak to anyone. Ever.”The assistant nodded. “Yes, sir.”Jack picked up the folder prepared for the board meeting and headed for the elevator. The company bylaws were clear. A CEO deemed emotionally unstable could be removed by a majority vote. Damon had handed him that opportu
Victor didn’t sit down.He stood near the wall, arms folded tightly across his chest, eyes moving between Seraphine and Caleb like he was trying to make sense of a language he didn’t speak. “She’s alive?” Victor said again, slower this time.Maybe repeating the words would change the meaning. “You’re telling me Naomi is alive.”Seraphine nodded once.“And you both decided,” Victor continued, his voice tightening, “to keep that from Damon.”Caleb leaned back in his chair. “For now. Yes.” Victor exhaled sharply and turned away, pacing a few steps before stopping himself. His hand went to his temple, pressing hard.“You know what this will do to him if he finds out later,” Victor said. “You know how he’s been.”“That’s exactly why we didn’t tell him,” Seraphine replied. “Jack is watching everything. Damon included.”Caleb nodded, “I saw one of his men tailing us earlier. We lost him in the parking lot, switched cars.” Victor let out a bitter laugh. “So the solution is lying to him?”
Seraphine's grip on the steering seemed to tighten as she turned the corner, she couldn't do this anymore. She just couldn’t do it.She parked across the street and sat in the car for a moment longer than necessary, her hands still on the steering wheel even after the engine had gone quiet. She wasn’t angry. That was the strangest part.Anger would have been easier. Anger would have given her something to hold onto but what sat on her chest was guilt.“Fuck this.”She stepped out of the car and locked it, then crossed the street quickly.Inside, the building smelled faintly of dust and old paint. The hallway lights flickered on the moment she walked in. Seraphine climbed the stairs, her boots quiet against the concrete. She stopped at the third door on the left and knocked once. Then again before pushing the door open. Naomi stood at the other end of the room. She was thinner. Paler. There was a faint bruise near her temple that makeup hadn’t fully hidden, and her hair was pulled bac
Damon had not changed the sheets. They still smelled like her. It's been two weeks and the only thing the police managed to find was Naomi’s coat. Stained with blood. He had demanded that they continue the search. They had to find something, anything.. Damon refuses to accept she was gone until there's proof of that. A physical proof… The house was too quiet, like a dark cloud covered the mansion, refusing to go away. The staff moved quietly, avoided his study, and avoided his eyes. No one asked him anything anymore. No one offered condolences. That would mean they think she was really gone and he refuses to accept that. Damon sat in the study with the lights off, the city barely visible through the floor-to-ceiling windows. His phone lay on the desk in front of him. No missed calls. No messages. Nothing new from the police. He hadn’t slept. He hadn’t eaten. And each day felt like a punishment without her. At some point, Patrick knocked but Damon didn’t
Naomi had insisted on going to work. She knew Damon had left hours ago, asking her to stay home, rest, and recover. He was right, she needed the break but she didn’t want people whispering behind her back, assuming she was skipping work because her husband was the CEO. She wanted to feel normal again. She asked the HR to give her a day off and she's to resume back to work today. That's more than enough rest and more than enough sexual escapades for one week even though she wouldn’t mind another. The city streets were busier than usual. Early morning sunlight reflected off the glass of office buildings, and the air smelled faintly of exhaust. Naomi’s hands tightened around the steering wheel, her knuckles pale as her stomach growled. She’d barely eaten, and the exhaustion from the night before still clung to her.All thanks to Damon who couldn't keep his hands off her. She ignored her hunger, she'll help herself to a cup of coffee once she's settled. A deep beep startled her. Her
“I think we still have our jobs! We're on the list! My goodness, we did it!” Paul exclaimed as he checked the notice board in the hallway. “We did? Oh my goodness!” Didi squeals in excitement, and the whole team celebrates their win with a sigh of cheer and relief. While several people celebrated
Naomi leaned back on the sofa, not sure what else to do with her time. She'd spent the last four hours sleeping and eating since Damon told the chef, Aria, to feed her all day! She's down to another bowl of soup, and she's about to binge-watch another series she so much loved. Her phone beeped,
“Any update about the news?” Damon asked as soon as they settled back in his office. He needed to step out momentarily, and now he was back with Patrick right beside him.“I don't think any of the staff will have an issue with whatever decision you make, sir. I have also made arrangements for Ms Na
The day of the presentations is finally here, and the office has never been so chaotic!Naomi had resumed her new position, and luckily, she was able to come up with her team members, of course. One could tell how happy the team members were that Naomi was now their team lead. She makes it so easy
