THE BIRTH

The dark clouds covered the black but magnificent sky as a blanket made of velvety fleece. The twinkling stars disappeared, or maybe hid under the thick layers of foggy clouds.Only the full moon was strong enough to stand against the odd of night. Its light shone on the ground as a blessing for some, but a curse for others. The air swept the coldness around the small town in western Europe. The white sheet of snow clustered around the corners of the town, isolating it from the entire place. There were few of the houses with dim lights focusing on the streets. The freezing weather outside the small houses made the residents shutting themselves from the commotion outside a particular house in the streets. The house was old and there were cracks in the middle of the walls; it covered more than the moist present on the entire exterior of the house. The lights were out but a small lamp was lit to provide sufficient luminance inside the dark place. On the bed in the corner of a room, there

THE EXISTENCE

Fifteen years later, the ghostly town was still haunting the residents of the town by the blood howling screams of the witch, which was burnt alive on the main square church.Since she died, nothing beneficial ever happened to the town. Youngsters were committing suicide, children were died due to endemic diseases, the older ones were getting rotten but still roaming alive.Everything was terrifying but what caught the attention of the town was the story of the ‘burned witch’ which was spread like a wild fire in the dense forest, to the nearby towns, and from there to the big cities.People from different parts of the country visited the ghost town to capture the story and most of them to see the ghost of the witch. However, it turned out that it was a rumor of seeing a ghost of that witch but the town somehow became dead. Women become infertile and no newborns were brought to the world. The crops were dead and there was nothing felt to feed, sooner and sooner the town turned into not

THE GHOST TOWN

EztliWaking up in the glorified and dewy morning in a random hill station was my dream ever since. Finally it is real, only because of Andre. He convinced my overprotective parents for this trip. Though, they didn’t agree at first but he knows how to manipulate people. I wish I could learn to do that, as in most cases, I have been told ‘NO’, and it breaks my heart and my dream.Last night’s haunting dream scared me, I didn't get a wink of sleep then. Walking over the balcony and watched the beautiful sun rising, a scene which is hardly expected to be seen in a metropolis.Life seemed lively here. All the trees seemed so happy and cheerful, the birds singing their favorite songs and the flowers blooming on this ground were smiling at us.“Woh!! Isn’t it breathtaking?” Andre approached me with two cups of jasmine tea in his hands. He knows well about me, every morning I need jasmine tea to calm my anxiety attacks.“I heard you screaming last night, was that another nightmare?” he inqui

THE LOSS

EztliI gasped when I heard a soothing yet dangerous voice behind me. The voice was so chilled that it sent shivers down my spine. The darkness in the house was adding to the grill and fear in my racing heart.“What am I supposed to do now?” I rushed to open the door which seemed stuck somehow. The windows were painted black with some sticky material on it. I rubbed it with my fingers and smelled it, it was grease and smelling foul. I banged the door hard but nothing happened.“What is this place?” I was really scared, and I might shit my pants if this door doesn’t get open.“Someone help me.. I am stuck here….” I screamed at the top of my lungs but nothing worked. This place is almost empty and now my friend has no idea where I am. The horror of getting stuck here was killing me and the grizzling sound of the wind from the windows was terrifying to the core. I was literally guilty of coming to this place. My exploration thoughts brought me here and now I will die here.Suddenly, some

THE FUNERAL OF MEMORIES

EztliReturning home after visiting that ghost town, I had isolated myself in the room from the trauma I suffered. The shit i watched from my own eyes, watching my best friend committing suicide, it was a horrible experience and i never wished it for. That place was one of a hell and Layla was the only one who retaliated by going there. However, we persuaded her and brought her along with us. It was our responsibility to take care of her but we had lost her.Her family was traumatized after hearing about her sudden death, if it could be an accident, they would have understood but she took her own life. Why did she do that? She was the most lively person among us. She had dreams she wanted to secure and work on them. She never thought of doing such a thing before. What made her do that?I don't remember how many days were past but I was inside my house and didn't bother to peek through the windows. Everything reminded me how i failed as a best friend. There was a knock on the door whic

BEGINNING OF A DIFFERENT LIFE

EztliSince that day, five years passed and the city had forgotten that there was anyone like us who lived. After a negotiation with my parents, I decided to leave the country and went to Canada for higher studies. All the time, when I focused on myself and tried to make a career out of it, something inside of my heart kept calling me, telling me that this wasn't something I was supposed to do. Got a degree in botanical science. I completed my graduation only in Canada and I was willing to get settled here. Until, I was transferred to a remote City of the border to complete my internship. Along with me, there were three other interns who joined and transferred to the remote City of the border. After the day ended, I went to my apartment and decided to call my parents as I thought of informing them about the internship and the place I will head the day after tomorrow. This sudden change wasn't something I expected but don't know why. I was agitated to be there for an unknown reason. Af

The Laboratory

EztliPassing the breezes through the dense forest, placing steps on the gravelled road leading to the mysterious laboratory I wanted to see. I was exhausted walking over the counter since it was getting bored. Matthew was confined to himself, clicking pictures of the place. It was utterly quiet today and mostly the silence don't bring good vibes to me."Matthew, are you sure the laboratory is in this direction?" I asked him with annoyance."Well, the map says so. We will see." He started before scrolling through his phone again. What a pleasant way of saying that he doesn't know? I sighed and followed the pathway since there was no turning around at the point. Breezes and floral scents were filling my nostrils and the lungs. It's been a while that I had inhaled fresh air. Soon, I spotted an old building and assumed that it must be the laboratory."I think this is the laboratory… wow! Mysterious, right?" I described the place a bit and stood at the main entrance. There were no guards

AWAKENING

EztliDisoriented noises and screeching woke me up and found myself staring at the plain white wall with nothing but a light bulb hanging over the ceiling. The room was entirely quiet but the noises I heard weren't lying either. I pushed the thick saliva down my throat and went down from the bed in order to leave the weird room. The door was unlocked and I felt the breath going through my body. As I stepped out, I saw Matthew and others were having a conversation and their gaze went on me."Eztli, you woke up? How are you feeling now?" He put the cup down and approached me."I don't know… I don't remember what happened." I was still dazed by the fact that I saw something supernatural, hopefully a hallucination that didn't exist and watched their face cluelessly."I think you are tired, dear. You should take more rest." Vicky stated while taking my hand in hers. There was a certain expression on her face which indicated that she knew what happened with me wasn't something my mind made

The Blurred Reality

With a loud gasp, I woke up all drenched in my own sweat, covered under the duvet in the room. My gaze struck the pale ceiling and the old rusted lamp illuminating a glimpse of so-called lumination. My breath hitched as the cold reality dawned upon me, everything that happened last night felt fresh like blood on my hands. I threw the duvet and got out of bed, only to gaze at the morning sun peeking through the window. Was what happened last night a nightmare? But it felt so real.I went out from the room to the lobby and it was utterly silent due to some reason that my guts hated. When I came outside, I spotted Matthew and others gathered with a crowd near the big tree grown at the entrance of the building. My forehead got covered by cold sweat and my palms were shaking, because I had the hint of what was coming."We need to inform his family right away." Matthew started with a shock over his face and then, his gaze met mine and with an apologetic expression, he excused the crowd and

Take of sins

I turned the faucet on and let the tub fill with cold water. I dipped myself under the embrace of the cold water to calm down the iching that was on my skin. There were several red patches over the skin and the burning didn't stop at all. The cold water does ease the burning but not for too long. After spending a good time in the water, I stepped out and inspected the patches on my chest, some of them were blistering as if I was set on fire. "What the hell in this world?" I cursed and wrapped a long-sleeved sweater over my body. I needed to seek medical attention and so without wasting my time here, I headed out and took a local transport to visit the nearby hospital. After waiting for my turn, I went to the dermatology department of the hospital. I explained my condition and situation to the doctor and she asked me to lay down on the bed to inspect the blistering over my chest.I was trying to close my eye when the doctor begin inspecting the patches over my body and there was a si
