Chapter 31
Farren's Point of View I slept with one eye open the entire night. Stirred at the slightest of sounds. Turned the noise this way and that within my mind until I was sure no one was going to come for me. This left me tired in the morning. Drained of all the energy I had had yesterday. But I wasn't going to rely solely on a small lock. Werewolves had a much higher power-to-mass ratio than humans. One lock wasn't going to keep whoever wanted to take me out of this room. So, I had shoved one of my mother's antique dressers in front of the door as well. Waking up was difficult. My bones were tired. Eyes puffy and red. There would surely be black bags beneath my eyes but I wasn't going to stick around long enough to examine them in the mirror. Last night's encounter with whoever had been in my house left me feeling unsure of this place. If Camilo and his men could get in here they could get me anywhere in Lupitum. Except for my home. Once Priamos and his family showed up, I would be

Farren's Point of View I winced away from his sudden proximity. Tried to turn my cheek more to the left so that he couldn't see the slight blooming of a blue mark. But it wasn't enough. Camilo was past enraged. Wandered closer and closer to insanity. The sparks in his eyes were enough to set the world on fire. His lips tugged into a sneer. "Dammit, Farren, let me see your fucking face!" He growled. Launched himself into the car when I opened the door. I yelped. Recoiled. Hooked my leg over the gear lever and tried to get into the passenger side. Out that way and away from this deranged mate of mine. None of it worked. Camilo followed me in. Blocked my other leg from also coming with me. Grabbed my hand on the steering wheel so I couldn't move it. His fingers forcefully laced into mine. Kept me there. I was trapped. But Leon was going to die if I didn't play this right. If I couldn't get away. "Just hold still!" He growled again. Forced his other hand past my ear. Rough fingers

Farren's Point of View Two men came forward out of the crowd. Bound Leon's hands together in front of him without even asking for permission from their Don. Knew that this was what he had wanted in the first place. Nodded at Camilo as they dragged my brother outside. His legs had gone slack beneath him. Terror had set in and bravery had fled. The fear in his eyes would haunt me for the rest of my life. Knowing I was the reason he was getting punished felt even worse. He wasn't a horrible brother. Not like most men I knew. He had just gotten angry. Lost his temper when I hadn't backed down. Who could blame him for his actions? I had always just been a nuisance in the family. Caused my mother and siblings irrevocable pain. And when the time was right, I would leave. Leave them to deal with whatever damage I had caused them. Mended their broken pieces and tried to carry on. But I always came back. Made it worse for them as time went on. My brother's blood would fall on my hands tod

Farren's Point of ViewI took off like a dog on fire after that. Headed into the house. Shoved myself through the throngs of men still lingering close. Laughing. Taunting. I wanted to sneer at them. Spit in their faces. How could they enjoy the suffering of one man? Feed off of his misery. But Leon had been beyond repair. Had lashed at me to leave him alone instead of accepting my help. He blamed me. Rightfully so. He had also proven to Camilo and Rafael that he was incapable of changing. Even when I had begged inside my heart that he would. Even when Camilo had just torn his back open, he remained the same. Some part of me knew that Camilo and Rafael had been right. But what had happened outside was an act of cruelty beyond belief. I wouldn't be able to forgive them for it.Maybe I couldn't forgive them because I had thought them better than that. At least I had thought so about Rafael. Walking deeper into the house, I took the stairs two at a time. Wiped furiously at more tears dri

Chapter 35
Rafael's Point of ViewThe maids cleaned the blood off of the porch in the wrong way. They used normal soap. Shitty soap, might I add. No hydrogen peroxide. No thick bleach and a whole lot of scrubbing. Oh no, that would be too much work. Would take too long. Instead, they threw the closest soap they could find on it. Which was Camilo's body wash. The don hadn't been amused by it but let it slide. Because his mother was due home any minute and she hated the sight of blood. Besides, she would ask what had happened. Not that Dominique wouldn't rat us out eventually. But if there was going to be a UV light in the area, this spot would light up like a Christmas tree. Not that I would help them out. At the end of the day, we could blame anything on Dominique if we wanted to. Although the police in our area were lax at best. "You missed a spot." I mused, picking at my nails. My shoulder dug into the brick. Became numb after a short while. The two maids looked up at me then turned their he

Farren's Point of ViewIsabelle had gone down to the car to fetch my outfit for today. Brought her own clothes along as well. I couldn't risk going out and facing my mates. My anger would get the better of me, leaving the situation tenser than it should be. She had offered. Knew that I wasn't in the right frame of mind. When she got back, she pounced on her bed. Flopped down on her stomach, hands beneath her head, and watched me keenly. Those bright brown eyes of her took in everything. Noted every movement I made.Getting undressed in front of her wasn't a problem. Nerezza and I had gotten dressed together time and time again. Nudity wasn't the issue, the issue was that she had tried to explain Camilo's brutality away. His cruelty. It irked me. Bothered me more than I would care to admit. But he was her brother and I had to understand that at least. After I had fixed things with Priamos, our relationship became normal again. I would do anything for my brother. For my sister-in-mat

Farren's Point of View They stood as one when Mrs. Parades stepped out of the house and into the garden beyond. Smiled at her with flashing white teeth. But their eyes would trail towards me as I followed. Took in the displeased look on my face and simply brushed it off as nothing. Because they saw nothing wrong with what they had done. How could they when they had been taught all their lives that violence was okay? Underneath the irritated scowl, I was seething. Felt my cool rage rise and fall as if it had a life of its own. Breathed in the timid air and released flames from my lungs. My hands clenched into fists the closer I got to the bottom. They dared to ruin my day and then show up here as if they had done nothing wrong. The older gentleman looked over his right shoulder at me. Beamed brightly. He looked a lot like Rafael, with his dark skin and endless dark eyes. His shoulders were broad as well. Frame large and imposing. But he was even gentle with the teacup in front of hi

Rafael's Point of ViewMy tongue had slipped before my brain had caught up. I might have told Camilo about Leon hitting her but I had refrained from telling her about the house she had bought. It hadn't been my secret to tell and Farren had wanted to keep it silent for a while. Now I saw the fury in my friend's face. Saw his jaw clench. Eyes dart to our mate who only sat there sheepishly looking at all three of us. My mother held her shoulder in comfort. Pressed herself against the young woman. To find out someone you admired was beaten down like that was a shock to the system."Cam-" I started but the Don cut me off."When were you planning on telling me?" He seethed. Pushed away his empty glass. The air surrounding the table grew stifling. Hot. His anger could be felt all the way to the mansion on the other side of the city.Farren opened her mouth. Shut it again. Looked away, toward my father. As if he would save her. But my father only looked flabbergasted. Shoveled his head betw

Farren's Point of ViewRafael sat with a split lip. Camilo with a black eye. Neither looked at the other across the kitchen. Although both of them winced whilst they were being tended to.Alejandro had taken up the task of cleaning Rafael. Amy cleaned Camilo. I was sure that they had decided it in such a way because Amy might have murdered her son. From the furious look in her eyes, this might have been more true than anything else. But it wasn't the only emotion running rampant inside of her. She was disappointed in Rafael. So was I.Arthur stood watch beside me. Hands crossed. Stern look on his face. Fury wouldn't begin to cover how he felt. I felt different. Would never forget the blood spilling from Rafael's lip as Camilo dealt the first blow. Or how Alejandro had desperately tried to pry him off of Rafael. The shrill voice of Amy screaming at them to stop as they were rolling around on the ground. Until Arthur jumped in. Jerked the two apart and tossed them to the side as if they

Farren's Point of View The hotel room was bleak. Cold. Drained of all life. But it was the best option I had. I couldn't stay at Rafael's place. His betrayal of my trust still stung too deep. I wouldn't have dared set a foot on Amador ground, even if Isabelle had begged me to return. Thus the main hotel in Lupitum should have sufficed. Although it didn't. With their grand chandeliers and busy halls, I felt more overwhelmed than ever. Everything was sterile upon my entry. The windows. Walls. Couches. All of it stank of bleach and despair. The exact mental state I was in currently. My stomach rumbled a few meters in and I clutched it with a hand. We had foregone lunch after all. Camilo had stormed out and Rafael had followed, leaving me with a confused and angry Amy. I dashed out of the house when I knew both of my seething mates were alright. Luckily my escape had been a speedy one. I had no bags to speak of. Had left it all with Isabelle this morning. Refused to go back for the
