Jerica’s POVMy head was pounding, and before I even opened my eyes, I knew my wrists were in cuffs. Cold metal bit into my skin with every twitch of my fingers. I kept my breathing steady, refusing to give whoever took me the satisfaction of panic. I focused on listening — was anyone in the room? Any movement? Breathing?I tried to reach my wolf, to sharpen my senses, but she was silent. I couldn’t even feel the distant hum of her presence. A cold realization settled over me. They’d injected me with wolfsbane. “Fucking great,” I muttered under my breath. The room was quiet. I didn’t think anyone was there, but I wasn’t letting my guard down. Slowly, I opened my eyes. It was dark, but not pitch black. There was a sliver of light cutting in through the top of the curtains, highlighting the dust in the air. Daylight. Morning, maybe? That meant I’d been out since at least 1:30 a.m.—and that was if it hadn’t been more than one night. I had no idea how long I’d been unconscious. No way to

Trixie’s POVThe thud of the punching bag echoed off the walls of the Blood Moon gym, followed by the rhythmic slap of gloves against pads. Sweat slicked Trixie’s forehead, stinging her eyes. Her arms felt like rubber, her legs heavy as stone. Trevor said nothing as he held the mitts steady, letting her pound out her exhaustion and rage in silence. They had been at it for hours now.Neither of them spoke. Words wouldn’t help.Trixie’s body gave out before her will did. She collapsed to her knees on the mat, panting hard, her knuckles aching. Trevor stayed still, watching, his chest rising and falling with the same fatigue she felt. Without a word, she got up and stumbled to the corner, grabbing a water bottle and chugging it down. She wandered toward the double doors of the gym, squinting into the hallway. Pale gold light spilled across the tiles.Sunrise.It was morning already. Her heart clenched painfully in her chest. Where are you, Jerica? And Janet? Trevor appeared beside her, s

Jerica’s POVI sat slouched on the couch, pretending to clean the dirt out from under my nails with one of the small plastic forks they had foolishly left behind with last night’s “dinner.” Really, I was just trying to keep myself from losing my mind. I’d been locked in this room for hours. The lights were off again, the only source of light still trickling in from that same sliver of a window near the ceiling. Morning light, brighter now, warmer — but not comforting. No one had come in since that smug woman from earlier. So much for “Rufus” being so eager to see me. I dropped my head back against the top of the couch and exhaled, my lungs burning with frustration.I had no sense of time. No scent trails. No wolf. Just silence and shadows. Whoever these people were, they were smart enough to keep dosing me with wolfsbane and even smarter about keeping my surroundings sterile. No scent markers, no names, no clues. It was a fucking prison wrapped in a mystery. The door creaked open. I d

TrevorJake, Eric, and Melissa stepped into the pack house just after sunset with Laura trailing behind them. Her eyes were sharp, wary, and haunted—like someone who had seen too much and survived barely enough. Without saying a word, she gave Trevor a respectful nod and disappeared down one of the side hallways to find a quiet space away from the buzz of action. She wasn’t part of this mission, but she’d been through enough with the hunters to understand what was at stake.Trevor stood in the grand foyer, watching her disappear, then turned to face his Beta, Eric and Jake. His mate. Melissa, stood beside him, the worry etched into every line of her face. She had barely slept. None of them had. “Library. Now,” Trevor ordered, voice clipped. They moved quickly. Within minutes, a dozen and a half warriors, five trackers, and the leadership team gathered inside the large room. A massive map of the surrounding tri-state area was already rolled across the main oak table. Pins and markers

Jerica – POVJerica sat in stunned silence, her back pressed to the cold wall, one hand still clutched to her neck where Janessa’s syringe had pierced her skin. It throbbed, a slow, burning ache that spread like fire through her bloodstream. But it was nothing compared to the ache forming in her chest.Janet — no, Janessa — stood on the other side of the room with a smug expression, ropes discarded at her feet, her clean clothes and neat appearance a mockery of the girl Jerica had once called her friend. "You should've seen your face," Janessa sneered, crossing her arms. "You looked so concerned. Almost made me feel bad."Jerica swallowed hard, every emotion vying for dominance — shock, rage, betrayal. Her mouth was dry, her tongue heavy. “You drugged me… you’ve been lying this whole time,” she whispered. Janessa tilted her head. “I said my name was Janet. I never said I was your friend.”The sting of those words hit almost harder than the injection. Jerica blinked hard, refusing to c

Trevor’s POVThe neighborhood here was different. Too quiet, too perfect, like the kind of place that got together to complain about lawns being half an inch too tall. But so far, no one had clocked us — no tight smiles from strangers, no extra sets of eyes watching from porches. My group’s tracker was still working the air in quick, short pulls. We weren’t even pretending to be casual anymore, just moving with purpose. We turned down another street, neat rows of homes lining both sides, and that’s when the tracker froze. His head snapped to the right, nostrils flaring. “Same as the others smelled before they got hit,” he murmured. That’s when I saw her.The woman in business attire — dark skirt suit, shiny hair pulled into a low bun — walking like she had all the time in the world. But my stomach dropped when the scent hit me. Janet. And underneath that … Jerica. I didn’t think. I moved. My hand shot out and grabbed her arm, spinning her toward me before she could even pretend to be s

Trevor’s POVWe all stood at the steel door, no one breathing too loud, the tension thick enough to taste. I handed the woman over to Trixie, watching her fingers curl around the back of the woman’s neck like a vice. Without a word, she dragged her up the stairs, the tracker stumbling behind them and two warriors closing the rear. Her eyes were hard, her shoulders tight. She doesn’t realize it yet, but I know this has never been about Jerica or Janet — not entirely. It’s about her. Her gifts. The things she sees. The things they’ll want to use against us. And every pack member who knows anything about her… we’re all targets now. I swallow that thought and focus on the moment, pushing it deep down where it won’t get in the way.Boots creak on metal as Jake’s team comes down the stairs. They pause halfway when Trixie’s voice echoes from above, sharp as a blade. “Because Trevor fucking said so!” she yells. There’s a muttered shh from Jake, and then they appear, sliding into position. “Br

Jakes POV I didn’t even notice the cold night air when we stepped out of the van — just the dead weight of Jerica in my arms. Her head lolled against my chest, sticky with blood, her breathing shallow but steady. The hospital doors slid open with a hiss, and before I could even call out, a team of nurses was there with a bed.“Lay her down here,” one of them said sharply.I didn’t want to let go. Not yet. But I lowered her gently onto the mattress, my hands reluctant to leave her. The nurses swarmed instantly, checking her vitals, cutting away what was left of her blood - soaked shirt, inserting IV lines. A pair of them pushed the bed forward, and I followed, my boots squeaking faintly on the polished floor as they rushed her into a trauma room. The bright light inside hit like a punch. I stood off to the side as the nurses worked, rattling off numbers and terms I didn’t understand. One of them looked up at me with quick, sharp eyes.“How long has she been out?”“Since the drive here,

Trixie’s POVWe followed the nurse up to the second floor, our footsteps heavy on the linoleum. Eric’s arm stayed tight around Melissa as we made our way into the surgical waiting room. It was a wide, sterile space, dotted with mismatched chairs, a coffee station in the corner, and too-bright lights that made it hard to tell what time of day it was anymore.Eric and Melissa sat down immediately, their hands clasped tightly together. Melissa bowed her head, and Eric followed suit, whispering prayers to the Moon Goddess. I couldn’t sit. My body wouldn’t let me. I paced the length of the room, my boots making soft, repetitive taps against the floor. It took a while before Jake finally found us. His clothes were still damp with Jerica’s blood, the dark stains stark against the fabric. He looked… hollow. Like the bond had been muted for so long. His eyes scanned the room until they found the coffee machine in the corner. Without a word, he walked over, poured himself a cup, and wrapped his

Jerica had been moved into a room of her own to recover, away from the chaos of the ER and the bright, sterile bustle of the surgical wing. The transition had been slow — the squeak of the hospital bed wheels, the hiss of the IV pump, the soft shuffle of nurses moving around her. About an hour later, the staff came to get us, saying we could follow them to her room. She was still asleep when we stepped inside, and the nurse warned us it was unlikely she would wake up tonight. The soft beep of the heart monitor and the faint scent of antiseptic filled the air. Eric and Melissa moved automatically, taking up their positions on one side of her bed, Melissa’s hand resting protectively on Jerica’s arm. Jake sat on the other side, gripping her right hand — the one that wasn’t broken — his hand gently holding hers.Jerica looked awful. Even though the surgery had helped, her face was still swollen and mottled with dark purple bruises. A fresh, white cast wrapped her left arm, and small, neat
