Chapter 1: Their mate

Rylan's POV “Hey Rylan, do you really think we’ll find her this year? We’ve been at it for almost 20 years already.” Rohan asks me through our shared mindlink as we run north in the late spring forest. “I do. Can’t you feel it too? The buzzing in your bones telling you we’re getting closer.” I ask, knowing he should feel it too. “I don’t know, I’ve thought I felt it many times these last few years but I was always wrong so I don’t really trust that feeling anymore. Maybe the Oracle was wrong and our mate isn’t in the Human Realm after all.” He says with a tone that hints on his wearing patience. “You know she’s never been wrong even once in the six centuries she’s been alive, we can’t give up now. Come on, let’s rest once we pass the border to Montana.” I say, trying to keep us both motivated. Chapter 2: Uninvited guests

Sophie's POV After finishing yet another day of online lectures I get ready to do some chores around the house. Starting off I prepare the ribs I’m making for dinner and shove them into the preheated oven. Humming to a song by The Chainsmokers I then head to the washroom where I take all my clothes from the washing machine and pile them in the laundry basket. I started the washing machine during lunch to make sure it would be finished by now, I don’t want to leave my clothes to dry out overnight. Grabbing the basket I head for the back door in the kitchen to reach the garden, using my hip to push the door open since I need both my arms to not drop the heavy laundry. I continue singing quietly to myself, knowing fully well I’ve probably messed up half the lyrics by now, though not caring at all. I put the basket down and start hanging my clothes out to dry. Chapter 3: New roommates

Sophie's POV “Is this some thing where you’ve decided to follow me until you repay me for helping you or something? Because in that case there’s no need. Shoo!” I say, gesturing to the open door but they flop down on their furry butts and look at me in a way that almost makes me believe they’re amused. Suddenly I start to smell burnt meat and I turn to the oven where I find my dinner is getting overcooked. With a yelp I hurry over and turn off the heat, grabbing some mitts to get the food out and place it on the stove to cool. Looking over the rib rack I find it’s not too bad after all, the smell having made it seem worse than it was. It might be a bit dry but still perfectly edible. Turning back to the dogs watching me I place a hand on my hip as I study them studying me. “If you want to stay for a bit I guess you’re welcome, there’s no one but me here anyway. Though if you poop inside I’ll throw you out head first, deal?” I ask, gwaffing barks is my reply which I take as a yes,

Chapter 4: Rylan and Rohan

Sophie's POV Jumping into my Ford Explorer from 2010 I start the engine and back out of the driveway. My house is at the edge of a small neighborhood just outside of Missoula so it takes me about 20 minutes to drive to my usual Walmart. Even though there are convenience stores closer I always choose this one. On my way I drive past the university where I study, though I have most courses online right now I used to go to uni almost daily for lectures. Pulling up in the parking lot I choose a parking spot as close to the entrance as possible, knowing I’ll be carrying a whole lot of bags to the car. After checking the car is locked behind me I grab a cart and head inside the store, taking my time in each section. By the time I head for the register the entire cart is filled to the brim with food, a lot of meat in particular, for my guests should they stay. I don’t really know anything about dogs so I decided that before I manage to read up I’ll just make them normal meat for now or I

Chapter 5: Invading thoughts

Sophie's POV With a sigh I pull up on the driveway and turn the engine off. Opening the trunk I grab the first three bags before heading to the door, struggling to open it with the heavy bags weighing my arms down. About half a minute of struggling later I manage to open the door and leave it wide open as I enter. I don’t even bother removing my shoes as I head to the kitchen where I dump the groceries on the countertop. A shuffling sound is heard behind me and I turn around to find Florence and Barton appearing from the open back door. I smile at them, honestly happy they decided to stay. Maybe they’ll help me not to feel so alone here by myself and keep me entertained with something other than studies. I make four trips in total until all the groceries are inside and I sigh in relief as I lean against the counters to catch my breath. My arms are aching. Chapter 6: They were serious

Rohan’s POV A soft snoring wakes me up from my late night nap and I stretch before looking around. Seems like both me and Rylan fell asleep waiting for our mate to finish her homework and now it’s well past 2am. Sophie’s head is leaning on her arms covering the dozens of notes and books spread out around her. Despite her peaceful sleeping face I can’t imagine it being comfortable sleeping in that position. Taking a risk I change back into human form and less than 30 seconds later I’m left stark naked in the middle of the living room. “Rohan, what the hell are you doing?” Rylan questions scoldingly, looking nervously at our mate as if she would wake up right this second. Ignoring my brother I place my arms around our mate and lift her up bridal style with her head rolling to lean against my shoulder. My body is humming pleasantly at the contact as I carry her to her bedroom, followed closely by Rylan who’s grumbling to himself. I gently put Sophie down on the bed and place the cov

Chapter 7: Best friend goes on a rampage

Sophie's POV “Ugh!” I huff as another piece of clothing hits me smack in the face. It’s been less than a minute after I told Mia I’ve been asked on a date and she’s already wreaking havoc in my closet. To be honest I didn’t even know I had this much clothes until it’s all spread out to cover my room. I already dread cleaning this up later. “Mia, you didn’t let me finish. I’m not even sure I’m going.” I explain, only for my best friend's head to turn around so fast I fear she may have gotten a whiplash. “What do you mean you’re not going? Of course you are! You’re so far behind in the dating program, at this rate you’re not gonna get married ‘til you’re like 50.” She says so seriously you’d think we’re talking about a plan to murder the president. I roll my eyes and take a second to study my blond friend. She’s super model skinny and always wearing the latest trends, being a fashion major and all. What people can’t tell just from looking at her is that regarding love and fashion

Chapter 8: First date - Part 1

Sophie’s POVMy heart is thumping loudly and my palms are sweaty as I stand outside the restaurant where I’m supposed to meet Rylan and Rohan in ten minutes. Arriving early was a bad idea because now all I can do as I wait is overthink this whole thing, wondering if they are going to stand me up or cancel at the last minute. With a sigh I reach up to run a hand through my hair only to stop midway as I remember Mia threatening to burn my postcard collection if she finds out I destroyed her creation before I even meet my dates. She basically woke me up at the crack of dawn, putting me through a spa day in preparation for tonight. There was no reasoning with the fashion demon that took her over and I envied Florence and Barton who made themselves scarce and basically stayed as far away as possible, mostly chilling outside the whole day.“You look beautiful tonight Sophie!” A voice says from behind making me jump and turn to find Rylan and Rohan actually smiling at me, not the usual smirk

Sophie's POV“Go away, Sam.” I sigh, already tired from knowing this will not be pretty. “Is that the best you got? You know, I’m surprised the biggest nerd in the state has left her books to go out. Who are these, your long-lost brothers? They’re handsome, I’ll give you that.” My stomach turns in disgust at Rylan and Rohan being called my brothers but I don’t know what to reply either, confused as to what we even are as this is our first date. “Hey wannabe barbie, we’re her boyfriends and we’re here on a date so why don’t you go back to your delusional dreamhouse?” Rohan asks deadpan, making me snort in laughter before I can stop myself. “Boyfriends? As in, both of you?” Samantha asks in shock, followed by jealousy disguised as disgust.
