Chapter 41 - Hakeem
The ride from the Artemis Area back home to Arcadia is a long and winding one. We’ve made this trip many times over the years, sometimes with Dev’s family, sometimes with others, but at least four times a year. We’ve never forgotten our friendship with Charlie, Zak, and Brandon. Meredith never forgot her home. We had our favorite haunts that we liked to go to, but we’ve also made all kinds of side trips: Dollywood, Nashville, New Orleans, Disney, D.C., all kinds of places. The girls, particularly, like being around the humans. Seeing how they live. They find them fascinating, with their lack of senses and sense of community. I think they actually scare them. Like watching lions at the zoo. This time, we stopped in St. Louis, MO. The Gateway Arch. The Grand Hall Light Show. Forest Park. The Wheel. The aquarium and the zoo. Grand Center Arts District. So many things to do. And the food! I loved the food. It’s always my favorite part of our trips. Bionic apples.

Chapter 42 - Brandon
Once we’re in the conference room, we immediately get down to business. “Nico, thanks for coming here. I know that you are aware that we are looking for Jake Santiago and that it is urgent that we speak to him, which is why we’re here for you to mindlink him. What you don’t know is why,” Hakeem begins. “It was quite a strange request. But, at the same time, Jake is on a mission and doesn’t have any other way to communicate with anyone else. How can I help?” Nico asks. “My daughter, the alpha of our area, and Jake’s cousin Esteban had a few days together right before her 21st birthday. It wasn’t until she was home and smelled his scent on a shirt that he let her have that she found out that he was her mate. It also happened that they were together close enough to her birthday that she is pregnant,” I state. “That’s great, Brandon! Congratulations!” Nico says. The news of a new pup is always a time for celebration within the wolf community. Everyone is always genuinely h

Chapter 43 - Jared
It’s Friday night, 8:00 my time, 7:00 in Texas. Is it weird that I got dressed up for a Zoom date? I want to look my best for Jared and Summer. I showered, shaved, styled my hair. Even put on a nice shirt. Though I am wearing sweat pants. I have the feeling that this might get…heated. And I’m going to want easy access. That’s why I have the other items on the table. Lube. Pillow case with Rowen’s scent. A pair of Summer’s panties. At exactly 8:15, the Zoom link opens and there are Summer and Rowen, smiling at me. “Fuck! How do you two get even sexier since the last time I saw you?” I ask, relief at seeing them coursing through me. My wolf has been agitated, restless this whole week, making me feel the same way. I want my…I guess you would call them my boyfriend and girlfriend. I need them. “Look at who’s talking. You look sexy as hell. I’d hit that,” Summer says, giggling before biting her bottom lip. “We already did, baby girl. Many, many times.” A sexy,

Chapter 44 - Meredith
I can’t believe that Chris already knows who her mate is. I remember when she and Jared were born. I remember when all of them were born and the premonitions that I got about each one, knowing the sex of each pup during the pregnancy of each of my friends. It makes me nostalgic for when we were all together, for when we were just newly mated and making friends with all of the trios. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to go back to the time of our Civil War with Mathias and Julian or revisit all the pain of losing those that we lost. But I do remember becoming friends with all of the trios and I miss the simplicity that came with that. I also miss my babies fitting in my arms. And pretty soon, those babies will be finding their mates. Of course, I already know who their mates will be. I know who all of trio legacy kids' mates are. But, I can’t tell anyone. I just have to wait for it to happen. Along with all of the drama that will come with. “What are you smiling abo

Chapter 45 - Chris
Werewolves never get sick. EVER. Our natural healing abilities prevent it. Yeah, we might get a hang over every once in a while, especially if we’re drinking wolf strength liquor, which is 190 proof for more, but no illnesses. The only other time that we are sick is when she-wolves are pregnant. Lucky fucking us. The constantly changing hormones, the fact that our immune system is more caring for our pup than us, and the changes that are coming over our bodies as we are becoming mothers make it so that our healing abilities are diverted. They kind of take a backseat so that they don’t attack the pup inside. All this to say that I was not prepared for morning sickness in any way, shape, or form. I have never thrown up in my entire life. That first bout of morning sickness took me so much by surprise that it was only my werewolf speed that got me to the trash can instead of spewing my breakfast all over the table as I was explaining an expansion plan for our high school to

Chapter 46 - Devin
“Ok, Meredith. Yeah, we’re getting the guys ready to head down to bring Esteban and his mother,” I say into the phone. “You guys have to get to him and Kayla. You have to get them back to the Artemis Area. We have to protect them!” Meredith’s voice is urgent. She’s begging for us to get to them. “We’re going to be touching down in the next 30 minutes,” Zak says. He’s blaming himself for not going straight to Kayla, but he had come here to go shopping. He had wanted to propose to Kayla, so he and Brandon wanted to get an engagement ring while they were here. If he hadn’t done that, he would have been with Kayla this whole time. It’s killing him. “I’ve got a car ready for you at the airport,” Hakeem says. “It will be on the tarmac and ready to pick you up the second you get off the plane.” “Is there anyone close by to either Esteban or Kayla that can check on them?” Jared asks. He’s on another private plane on his way to us. He, Micah, and Jai were on their way to g

Chapter 47 - Kayla
I was just supposed to here for three days. That was it. It was going to be hell to be away from Brandon and Zak during that time. Granted, we had finished our mating period, but we are so in love and none of us had had serious relationships between losing our first mates and gaining our second chance ones. Brandon and Zak had each other during that time and were able to find comfort and get their sexual needs met that way. I, on the other hand, did not have another mate, seeing both of my mates had died as a result of the war with the Riding Hoods. I wish that I could have met Iris. That I had known what she was like prior to the letter I had gotten from Brian. She had sent a letter with Arya and Devin soon after Zak, Brandon, and I had accepted our matebond. She told me a little about herself and how she and Brian had been keeping tabs on me and Summer ever since they found each other in Selene’s realm. She sounded like an amazing witch that had been broken down by the

Chapter 48 - Esteban
“¡Mamá! ¿Qué demonios estás haciendo? ¡Acabas de salir del hospital! ¡No puedes estar trabajando en la cocina! (Mom! What the hell are you doing? You just got out of the hospital! You can't be working in the kitchen!)” I yell, coming into the kitchen to pick up a few orders. My mother, who just got discharged home two days ago after having a major heartattack, is attempting to make masa for tortillas. She’s holding a 10 pound bag of cornmeal in her hands and her face is turning red from the exertion. “Intenté decírselo, jefe. ¡Me pegó con una cuchara! (I tried to tell her, boss. She hit me with a spoon!),” Oscar, our chef says. Sure enough, I look over to see him icing a large goose egg on the top of his head. “¡Mamá! ¡Vas a provocarte otro ataque al corazón! ¡Detente! Vuelve a la cama. Estamos encargando de todo. (Mama! You're going to cause yourself to have another heartattack! Stop! Go back to bed. We're taking care of everything.)” I say, quickly taking the

Chapter 49 - Brandon
We’re five minutes out from landing. Our car is already waiting for us at the hanger and then we’ve got a 15 minute drive to the Southern Point territory. Where the fuck is Luna Safi? We should have heard from her at least 15 minutes ago to tell us what happened with Kayla. Do they have her? Did they find her missing? What the hell is happening?! My wolf and I are going insane and Zak isn’t fairing any better at all. We’ve already lost one mate. We can’t lose another. We wouldn’t survive it. Especially knowing that she’s pregnant with our pups. Add to that our worry about Chris, her pup, and Esteban and our wolves are ready to rip out of us and go on a rampage. What the fuck is happening? Zak nearly screams through the mindlink that he opened between me and Dev. I don’t know, Z. We’re trying to get back in touch with Safi, but something’s wrong. She’s not picking up her phone and the mindlink isn’t going through either. It’s like she just disappeared. Dev links

Chapter 50 - Jared
“Fuck!” I scream aloud to the empty plane. I’m on my way to Guadalajara to find Esteban and bring him back home. The thing that’s worrying the hell out of me, even more than Meredith’s and Chris’s visions is that Nico hasn’t been able to get in touch with Esteban via mindlink or by phone. Esteban’s cousin, Jake, had given us his cell phone number and we’ve all been trying to call him over the past few hours to no avail. It’s going straight to voicemail each time, like it’s turned off. Now, I’ve just found out that Kayla has been taken by the Riding Hoods. My new stepmother and Summer’s mom. Just gone because of these damn cloth draped walking Roman candles. And they’ve threatened to take my sister as well. Uncle Dev is the one that told me what’s going on. “I know that this is a big blow. Gael, Hakeem, and Arya are on their way to your dads. I’m heading to you sister to make sure that she’s safe. Liam, Sandra, and Bhakti are on their way there as well.” “What about yo
