Chapter Seventy-Nine - Recovering From Their Loss
Grandpa Ben was pronounced dead when they reached the hospital. Caleb called Lillian to inform her. “What happened, Caleb? Did you find Grandpa? Where is he now?” “Yes, we found Grandpa. Please come over to our hospital right away.” Lilian frowned on hearing his voice crack. Was he weeping? Her heart constricted with fear. Was something wrong with Grandpa? “What happened to Grandpa, Caleb? Is he critical?” “He’s no more!” whispered Caleb, breaking down totally. The phone fell from Lillian’s hand and she slumped to the chair in shock. “What happened? What did Caleb say?” asked Christian, anxiously waiting for her reply. Since morning, they had been waiting in the living room to get an update on Grandpa Ben. There has been no update so far.“They’ve rescued him.” She burst into tears unable to say a word more.“And? Why didn’t they bring him home?” asked Grandpa Phil. Granny was in the nursery tending to the twins since Lillian couldn’t.“Yes, where is he?” asked Christian anxiousl

Chapter Eighty - Precious Moments
Skylar noticed the longing in his tone, the desire in his voice. She couldn’t let him suffer for the next two months. She loved him, and it was her responsibility to keep him happy. “Are you experiencing pain anywhere after the physiotherapy?” Christian shook his head, making her look relieved. “My body is used to it now. Initially, the pain was unbearable.” Skylar smiled, her mind made up. She would try her best to please him. She wanted him to overcome his grief and lead a normal, happy life. “Good! Are you sleepy?” Christian raised an eyebrow at her quizzically. Now what was going on in her head? “No, why do you ask? Are you planning something?” Skylar blushed and got up to clear their dinner. “What? You didn’t answer me!” He watched her walk away without replying. “You’ll see!” she said near the door before disappearing. Christian waited impatiently for her to return. He was bursting with curiosity by now. After a few minutes, Skylar came inside and closed the door, flashing

Chapter Eighty-One - Home At Last
After Two MonthsChristian and Skylar finally bade a tearful farewell to her grandparents, Caleb and his family. Seeing his miraculous improvement, Christian’s doctor had given him permission to travel. Christian couldn’t contain his excitement, and they packed up to leave the next day. “Keep us updated, Chris. Don’t overexert yourself,” said Lillian, with tears in her eyes. She still didn’t want her youngest sibling to leave, but Christian didn’t listen to her logic. Ever since Grandpa Ben died, Lillian almost doted on Christian like a mother. He didn’t mind, and neither did Skylar. “Don’t worry so much about me. I’ll call you every month. Happy?” Christian wiped her tears and hugged her. “No, I’ll wait for your call every week.” “Take care of yourself, Skye,” said Granny, hugging her to her bosom. “Yes, granny, you too.” “Video call us whenever you can,” said Grandpa Phil. “Sure, Grandpa.” Christian hugged her grandpa. After Grandpa Ben’s death, he had grown more attached to

Chapter Eighty-Two - Inadequacies
Christian’s heart skipped a beat with excitement. He remembered how she had pushed him away the last time they were here. Her behavior had upset him so much. He had left home to go on a trip all by himself, only to return to get her. If he hadn’t returned that day, he wouldn’t have seen this change in his life. Maybe he wouldn’t have felt Skylar’s love at all! He had achieved the impossible in a matter of five months! He had made her realize her feelings for him. Skylar got up and caught his hand, leading him inside. She knew she had taken him by surprise again, but she wanted to make him happy. Once inside, she closed the door after her. Christian hesitated, his confidence wavering at the last moment. He was afraid he would fail her. What if she wasn’t satisfied? What if he was incapacitated? After his surgery, he wasn’t sure he could please her as well in bed as he could earlier! This was a fear that was eating him alive. It made him stop every time they made out with one another.

Chapter Eighty-Three - Reuniting With Old Friends
“First, enjoy what I’ve planned all day for you.” Christian tried to act unaffected, but her words echoed in his head all the time. He wished he could throw caution to the wind and make wild love to her! “I can’t wait to see what you’ve done all day. Was that why you sent me away?” Skylar excitedly followed him to the bedroom, eager to change for their date. He smiled and walked away towards the closet. Skylar freshened up and came out of the en-suite. Strangely, Christian wasn’t there in the bedroom. Wasn’t he getting ready too? She put on the beautiful, off-shoulder chiffon dress. The embroidered bodice clung to her curves while the skirt fell in layers all around her. She swirled in front of the mirror, loving the dreamy, romantic look. Brushing her hair she clipped on a pair of dainty diamond danglers. After a few minutes, she stepped out of the bedroom, looking around for Christian. Where could he be? Maybe in the dining room. She went to the dining room but strangely; he wasn

Chapter Eighty-Four - Connecting With Knox
“Sure. You don’t need to ask me, Christian. I want you to have close friends like I do.” Christian looked genuinely happy at the prospect of reconnecting with Knox. In the evening, he dropped Skylar home. “I’ll come home in a couple of hours. Don’t miss me too much,” he said, planting a soft kiss on her forehead. “I won’t. I’ll video call the girls.” She walked away with a smile while Christian drove away towards Knox’s house. He still remembered the way, even after so many. There was a time when he spent all his vacations here with Knox and Andrea. He knew everything about them. Knox’s parents had a bitter marriage that ended in both of them committing suicide. It set the siblings against the very institution of marriage. He was the only person in the world who understood them. They stayed away from home after their parents' death. So it was a surprise to hear of their return. He hadn’t ever expected them to return. Christian parked his car in the driveway of the majestic Cromwel

Chapter Eighty-Five - Energize Me
Christian returned home only to find Skylar fast asleep, waiting for him on the patio. He felt guilty to have kept her waiting for so long. They had so much to catch up on that they soon lost track of time. He patted Skylar’s cheek tenderly to wake her up. If his leg would have been better, he would have carried her inside. Skylar stirred, waking up with a start. She immediately gasped to see him hovering over her. “Oh, I fell asleep.” She got up to follow him into the house. “Sorry to keep you waiting, baby! Knox and I lost track of time. We had so much to catch up on.” “And Andrea?” prodded Skylar, giving him a jealous look. “She was away at some club.” Skylar felt a little better to know that he wasn’t spending time with Andrea. “Did you have your dinner?” Christian shook his head. “Just some appetizers and beer. I wanted to have my dinner with you.” “I too wanted to eat with you. Shall we?” Christian nodded, relieved that she didn’t react to his late arrival. They ate togeth

Chapter Eighty-Six - Joining The Mile-High Club
Skylar smiled against his lips. She would gladly energize him if only he would allow her to. Lately, they failed to revive the magic they used to share earlier. She didn’t know what went wrong between them, but after the accident, Christian seemed to have changed a little. Maybe she would address the issue after they returned from New York. He claimed her lips in an intoxicating kiss. It was a slow one, a magical one filled with passionate longing. Both of them desired one another acutely, yet couldn’t consummate their relationship. While Skylar had conquered her battles and accepted her feelings for Christian, he had a different mental struggle to combat! “Kiss me, Skylar!” His raspy, frustrated growl aroused her, and she fisted her hands into his hair and kissed him back hungrily. Her tongue swirled against his causing a fiery need to course down his body. He groaned and cupped her cheek, angling her head well to dominate the kiss. His kiss turned hard and demanding when he plung

Chapter Eighty-Seven - A Melodramatic Wedding
They reached Bellevue Hospital after an hour. Skylar immediately inquired after Eva, but it was strange she had taken a long leave for almost a fortnight. Was it because of her wedding to Alexander? “She is pregnant and her wedding is coming up!” the nurse informed her. Skylar was shocked to hear the news. She knew about her wedding, but not about her pregnancy. The last time she connected with Alyssa, she only found out about her upcoming wedding. Even Hayley cribbed about her own love life. So who was Eva marrying? How was it she didn’t know? Did Eva find her happiness at last with Alexander Van Every? “Let’s go to see Erica,” said Christian, leading her away from the neonatal department. They went to the emergency department and met Sebastian in the lobby. “I was waiting for you,” said a haggard-looking Sebastian. “How is she now?” asked Skylar. “She’s still on drips.” “How did her health deteriorate so much?” asked Christian worriedly. “She was exceptionally nauseous. Chapter Eight-Eight - Missed You Like Crazy
Christian was sitting in the reception room waiting for her when she walked into the house. “So, how did the wedding go? Did Alexander whisk Eva away with him?”“Yes, he did. There was war, but no bloodshed thankfully! I’ll get myself a drink. It was too much for a day!” She got a bottle of water and emptied its contents. Then she explained everything that happened to Christian. However, her relief was short-lived. Erica was again critical, and they re-admitted her in the middle of the night. “You can go back and rest, Skylar. I’m here,” said Christian, as they sat outside the Emergency Unit. “No, I can’t leave you alone here.” She knew his condition. It wasn’t very good either. He needed more rest than she did.For the next two days, they took turns at the hospital. Skylar didn’t get time to catch up with her friends anymore. They eagerly waited for Sebastian’s return. After five days, they brought Erica home. She was pregnant with twins and her condition was critical with both f
