CHAPTER 141, SON
It wasn't until Friday evening that Maddie's blank mind stirred, the image of a certain blonde blue-eyed kid filling it. "Sweetie!" she muttered with a gasp and jumped out of bed. However, because of the lack of food in her body she got dizzy and fell back on the bed with a low thud. This was what Audrey walked in on as she stepped into the room with a fresh bowl of food in a tray to replace the untouched one she had brought in the afternoon. "Maddie are you okay?" she asked as Maddie had fallen back on the bed gripping her forehead with one hand. It was an unnecessary question, ironic even. Of course her friend was far from okay. More so, she could very well tell why Maddie had fallen back on the bed while attempting to stand up. Her poor friend's body was weak. It was a surprise that she hadn't passed out yet. Moving to place the tray she had brought on the dressing table as the side table beside Maddie's bed still had the tray containing the untouched lunch, Audrey moved to

CHAPTER 142, TOO SMART
"Mummy!" Andrew rushed towards Maddie all the way from the car to the gate where she was standing, throwing himself into her arms when he reached her.A light smile formed on Maddie's face as she held him. "My sweetie, I missed you," she muttered in all sincerity, just seeing the lad was making her heart suddenly feel full.Andrew half released her, reaching one of his hand towards her face to touch it ever so tenderly with his fingertips. "I missed you more mummy. Daddy said you have been so busy and that was why you couldn't even call me while I was at Sheila's place. By the way, I had so much fun there. Their house is not as big as our mansion but it is so cozy and warm and Sheila and I frequented the park after school hours and had so much fun. I really want to do that again. But you should always find time to call me mummy no matter how busy you are, I am your sweetie after all, but…" Andrew was speaking so fast and with so much excitement, he was literally out of breath by t

CHAPTER 143, THE REST OF THE STORY
Mathew was in the living room with Audrey when Maddie got out of bed and made her way towards the kitchen for a glass of water as she was thirsty. She hadn't been able to go back to sleep after the dream she had. There were just a lot of unsettling thoughts it had provoked making sleep elude her completely. As the living room was on the way to the kitchen, she was able to peep inside as she passed by it while walking down the connecting passageway and this was how she caught glimpse of Audrey and Mathew. They seemed to be immersed in a solemn conversation but they were speaking in hushed tones. After emptying a glass and half of water, she made her way out of the kitchen and towards the living room. It was barely dawn, just a few minutes past 5am. Andrew was still fast asleep, she had taken such great care to disentangle her koala son from her when she had gotten up and crawled out of bed. She had finally made a decision, once the sun was up, she would text Jake for them to meet up

CHAPTER 144, DISHEARTENED
"Mummy?" Andrew's voice jolted Maddie out from her thoughts. Maddie had needed some air. Mathew had left almost immediately after their talk. She had spent some time in the living room, her mind chaotic before she had decided to step outside to water the flowers hoping that doing something would help her better process her thoughts and feelings, both of which were all over the place. She had been wrong. The sun was already out and the sky was blue and clear. Moreso, the temperature was mild so Maddie hadn't bothered with a jacket when she stepped out. It was hard to wrap her head around everything, no matter how she tried. So Jake was a victim in all of this like her? The knowledge didn't make her feel any better in the slightest, if anything, it made her feel even more disheartened. More confused. More sick. More lost. Now, she was standing outside, watering the flowers so halfheartedly she had literally only been watering one part of the garden all the while and it was beg

CHAPTER 145, RETURNING TO THE MANSION
It was soon Sunday. Maddie woke up snuggling her son who was still sleeping soundly. A small smile spread across her face as she moved her hand to touch his hair, and then she leaned towards him to give him a peck on his forehead. Disentangling herself from him with care, she got off the bed and made her way to the bathroom for a long shower. Andrew would need to return to the mansion today, weekday was already before them and he had to go to school. He wouldn't agree to go without her. She couldn't ask for his uniform and other stuffs to be brought to her house, that would be suspicious and Andrew might catch on that something must have happened for her to refuse to go back to the mansion. She couldn't have that happening. Just what was the way forward from all this? Maddie sighed heavily. Well, she still hadn't figured that part out yet. She was just going to have to return to the mansion first and figure it out while she was there. But could she really be in the same spac

CHAPTER 146, NOT THE SAME
Jake did well to stay out of Maddie's way for the rest of the evening. Even skipping dinner. He was already content enough that she had returned to the mansion although he knew that her reason for returning was most probably because of her son. It had been evident in her face earlier when she saw him after getting out of the car. The way she had turned away from him so swiftly. He was pretty sure that if she could, she would have dug a hole and hidden herself in it right there and then. It was how much she despised him now. Well, she did have every right to. Closing his laptop, Jake rose from his chair and started to make his way out of the office study. He proceeded towards the kitchen in the second floor, opening the refrigerator to take out a foil covered plate. The plate contained the quesadilla pizza his son had given him earlier saying that Maddie and him had baked it and kept some for him. He knew that them keeping some for him was all his son and not at all Maddie's decis

CHAPTER 147, FEELINGS UNCHANGED
"You umm, you have something on your mouth," Jake's voice sounded seconds later when Maddie didn't look away like he had expected her to when their gazes first locked. His shaky voice gave away his nervousness. He wasn't lying though, she did have food particles smeared on one corner of her lips.On hearing his words, Maddie reached for a serviette piece on the table to wipe her mouth all over as Jake hadn't specifically pointed out the part of her mouth that was smeared with food particles. And she wasn't ready to ask him for specifics. As she performed this action, Jake found his eyes lowering to her lips, swallowing as he remembered how it tasted. She finished cleaning her mouth, her eyes returning to him and catching the desire playing in his eyes. Her gaze on him turned into a glare and he quickly looked away from her feeling slightly embarrassed. "Mummy, can you please pass me the ketchup?" Andrew's voice was Jake's saving grace as Maddie averted her gaze from him to her s

CHAPTER 148, NIGHTMARES, CONFLICTS AND COMPROMISES
Jake couldn't believe she was really in his arms. Sleeping so soundly with her face pressed against his chest. He had been on his way out to get himself a fresh cup of coffee when the knock on his door had sounded. He had immediately known it was her. So, he had quickly answered the door and alas! It had been indeed her!Even though she had not exactly voiced out her reason for being there, he had seen it playing so evidently in her eyes. But then, there had been conflicting emotions playing in her eyes too and she had almost scurried away. Thank goodness he hadn't let her! He hadn't known where the courage had come from to ask her to stay and let him cuddle her. He had almost thought she wouldn't stay or let him even as much as touch her but she had agreed. She had stayed and now she was in his arms. However, Jake didn't know whether to be pleased or not. It was almost like she was giving herself one last time to be with him, and then afterwards she would leave him for good. It wa

CHAPTER 149, NEWS OF THE CENTURY
"Idiot!" Linsley cursed under her breath the moment Stephanie was gone, kicking at her feet in fury, and just then her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and then picked the call rather hurriedly. "So, have you found that fool Harry?" she asked the person on the other line. "No we haven't. He seems to have disappeared," came the reply from the person on the other line. "Then find his f**king family fool and use them to lure him out!" She practically yelled into the phone. "Well, umm, his father and younger sister have disappeared as well. I think your son is protecting them by keeping them hidden somewhere." "Arrrgh!" Linsley screamed, tossing her phone across the wall in anger. "Incompetent fools!" she cursed, and then started to parade about the room. Her son was protecting Harry! Was he f**king insane? He had threatened to send her to jail but it had just been an empty threat, right? Well, she was beginning to think of the threat as more than just an empty threat.

CHAPTER 150, SHRINK SESSION
Maddie had been sitting right across Karen for roughly fifteen minutes already, yet she hadn't said a word other than the greeting she had muttered to the lady when she had first stepped in. The warm smile playing on the therapist's face didn't falter, she continued waiting patiently for Maddie to speak. Drawing a sharp breath, Maddie finally opened her mouth to speak. "I umm, it's umm, complicated. I don't even know where to start." Karen's smile widened. "You can start anywhere you like Maddie. " The way Karen's office was designed, it was a modern office setting with an office table and a chair, and then across the table on the other end were two other chairs, arranged to slantingly face each other. There were a stretch of cupboards right behind the office table and chairs, at the far end of the wall, it contained drawers containing files of patients. Ahead of the office table before one got to the door or if one came from the door, were two adjacent reclining sofas. This w
