20 - Unexpected visitor
The next day...I take a deep breath of the evening air, lost in thought as I look at the medium-sized building."Be careful not to get lost in your daydreams, Alice," Gregory comments with a smile, holding one of my suitcases.I chuckle and shift my gaze to him."You didn't have to take time out of your day for me.""Why not? There's nothing better than helping a friend," he says with a smile, and walks past me, entering the building.I was about to meet my new home. A temporary home, but mine nonetheless. The day had passed quickly. I was so focused on moving into my new apartment that I didn't even notice what had been happening around me in the past few hours. I just wanted to feel the comfort of being in my own place again.I entered the building and took the stairs to the floor of my apartment.Excitedly, I pushed the slightly ajar door, revealing a place that looked very different from what I had seen the day before. The entire apartment was furnished."What happened here?" I s

21 - He lied to me
We were silent and still. Joshua's gaze alternated between Gregory and me, still wearing an intrigued expression on his face."Huh, I better go then," Gregory comments, breaking the tense atmosphere, and walks past Joshua, who remained in the middle of the door. And suddenly, I become the center of his attention. I watch Joshua, waiting for him to speak up about why he's here. But he says nothing, forcing me to be the first one to say something."So... What brings you here?" I ask. Joshua shakes his head, indifferent."I guess it was a terrible idea to come here," he comments, turning to leave."Joshua, wait!" I stop him and walk towards the door. Even with his back turned, I can still deduce that he just let out a sarcastic nasal laugh. Joshua turns around again."Alice, I just wish I had been informed about your apartment by you, not by Samantha," he says, disappointment evident in his tone."And I don't even need to mention that you decided to leave without saying goodbye. And now,

22 - Is she stalking me?
My shift was coming to an end. I was finishing up organizing the last files in the company's system. When I focused on something, I hardly noticed the day passing, unless I was in the most painful boredom."Huh... And how is Gregory?" Samantha asks, trying to make conversation.I'm surprised by her question. I didn't expect her to still care about him, or maybe she was just asking to avoid the almost deafening silence between us, as I was avoiding saying anything to her, afraid that I might slip up."He's doing well.""I'm glad he finally found a friend. Sometimes, he rushes into things a lot."Tell me about it."Has he given you a gift?" she continues the conversation."And you wouldn't believe it."I end up smiling ironically as I remember what he had done."He furnished your apartment?""How did you know?" I look away from the computer screen and gaze at her in surprise."He really did that?" She laughs, as if she had made a bet and won. "It's so typical of Gregory to do that. Can

23 - New people and an unknown idiot
I enter the room and find a spacious area filled with natural light. I see other people arriving, some with brushes and paints in their hands, others with sketchbooks and pencils. I feel a mix of admiration and insecurity as I observe the other students, all seeming so talented and dedicated. Soon, the teacher enters the room and warmly greets us. She is a renowned artist and her inspiring words calm me down a bit. She introduces us to the course program and expectations for the semester. I feel excited and determined to absorb everything I can. "Well, before we officially start, I would like to get to know a little about each of you, your career goals, and other things," the teacher says. I see a girl raise her hand, the first one to speak up. "Hi, my name is Sarah and I love painting, the feeling I get from expressing myself through my canvases is... Indescribable." "I understand that very well..." another student responds. "I feel the same way when I'm creating my sculptures."

24 - New stop: motel
"Excuse me?" Joshua said to the man at the hotel reception."Yes?" The man's attention shifted slightly from the newspaper in his hands to us."We'd like to make a phone call. Where can we find a phone?""It's just to the left." The man pointed towards the end of the hallway. We followed his directions. I watched Joshua make the call and looked around, taking in every corner of the hotel. For a roadside motel, it was fairly tidy. But it had a memorial for all the people who had died there. Murders. I swallowed hard."We'll have to stay here tonight. The tow truck won't come until 6 a.m.," Joshua said, grabbing my hand again. We went back to the reception desk. "We'll need to find a room. Please... Do you have any vacancies?""One moment, I'll check." The man turned to his computer screen. "Yes, we have a vacant room. Are you a couple?""Yes.""Just a warning... The location doesn't favor couples' safety.""Oh. Sure." I noticed a nervous smile from Joshua."What did he mean?" I asked,

25 - The first time
Just as I had suggested, later that day, in the evening, we went to a restaurant. Joshua seemed to have good taste in choosing places, and he suggested that we dine at Chiltern Firehouse. We placed our orders and waited for them to be ready. Our seating arrangement at the table was somewhat random. I sat next to Joshua, while Alex, Agatha, and Nathan sat on the opposite side."This place is amazing!" Nathan commented in English, clearly showcasing his Brazilian accent. Indeed, the restaurant in the hotel was incredible. Some potted plants and chandeliers with warm yellow lights adorned the place. The furniture reminded me a bit of old-time London royalty."So, when did you two start this relationship?" Nathan asked, trying to break the silence."It's still relatively new. But we started getting involved after we arrived in London," Joshua replied."I know, it's hard not to fall for his charms, isn't it, Alice?" Nathan said with a mischievous smile, teasing me.Now I could feel my face

26 - Good luck, babe
I hear my phone alarm go off and realize that I had fallen asleep on Joshua's chest. It was already morning. I lazily open my eyes. Joshua was still asleep. I serenely admire his face. His breathing was calm. A silly smile spreads across my lips as I witness how peaceful he looks.Slowly, Joshua wakes up. His gaze falls on me."Why are you staring at me?" he whispers, a sleepy smile appearing on his lips."Because I can," I retort playfully."Silly..." He pulls me into a hug, burying his face in my neck. The silly smile on my lips only grows wider."You can stare at me as much as you want... whenever you want... always," his muffled voice against my neck sends shivers down my spine. He lets go of the hug, sitting up and painfully getting out of bed. He puts on the white shirt lying on the floor and comes back to the bed to give me a kiss."Will I see you later?" he asks, still close to my lips, and I nod my head. "Have a great day, beautiful," he whispers and steps back, going to the

27 - Good things and bad things
Why was she so cruel? What had I done to deserve that treatment? I felt powerless in the face of her poisonous words, unable to react at the moment she spoke them. Now, the words echoed in my mind, fueling a storm of emotions within me, filling me with fear and anxiety. I confess they left me in a dilemma. I didn't want to give in to her demands, but I also didn't want to face the consequences of her threats. That girl was capable of anything and she could seriously harm me. I let out a long sigh."Are you okay?" Hannah whispered to my left, from the auditorium seat, after hearing my audible sigh.I diverted my attention from the lecture to look at Hannah."Yes," I nodded. I wouldn't tell her about my problems with Madelyn."Are you sure?" she asked suspiciously. "You've been acting a little strange since you came back from the bathroom. Did someone bother you?""No, it's just that... Not everyone here is pleasant, and I didn't get along with someone," I replied."Oh, I see. That happ

28 - An unexpected dinner
Nathan returns with the order that Madelyn had placed."Do you need anything else?" he asks the woman at the table behind us."No, thank you," her voice sounded sweet, unlike what I was accustomed to facing."Okay. Just let me know if you need anything," Nathan returns to the counter and I watch his path, stopping my gaze at Gregory, who was also giving me a curious look from the other side of the counter, surely because Madelyn was in his café.I stand up from the couch and walk up to the counter where Gregory was standing."You're... ""Surprised to see Madelyn Chapelle in my café? Yes. Definitely yes," he says incredulously. "She never comes here. Not after I bought the place.""What do you think she's doing here?""Based on what you told me about her, would it be naïve of me to think she only came to try one of the best cappuccinos in town?"Our gaze was focused on her. I lean against the counter, intrigued. Looking at her, seeing her alone, with a downcast expression on her face,

29 - Joshua
Joshua, three years ago.Several times he caught himself looking at the watch on his wrist. He seemed anxious. His gaze always turned to the arrival hallway. He seemed to be waiting for someone. The longer the minutes passed, the more restless he became."Why is she taking so long?" he muttered, tapping his foot lightly on the floor. "She should have arrived fifty minutes ago." He checked the time on his wristwatch again.Joshua turned to look at the large flight schedule board. Maybe he had arrived too early, or at the wrong time. Analyzing flight by flight, time by time, he realized that the plane Madelyn was on had already landed, but she hadn't shown up yet. Getting more nervous, Joshua started pacing back and forth in the airport lounge, extremely restless.A female voice sounded among the people, causing him to quickly turn towards the direction where the voice was coming from, thinking it was his girlfriend. Without success. It wasn't Madelyn."Joshua!" It was Samantha, a frien
