Corey's POV "How's she doing, doctor?" "What made her faint?" I felt pity for the doctor as they kept bombarding him with questions. My head ached badly and my stomach too still I tried to force my eyes open. A hand touched mine and finally, my eyes were forced open, the single act causing me to wince because of how stressful it felt. Tracey was the first person I saw and she smiled when she realised that I was awake. "Oh God.." I moaned in pain as I tried to adjust myself to a sitting position. "Relax," The doctor said gently, "Don't force yourself to do anything that you aren't comfortable with," She said and stayed out, darting my eyes to her. She smiled at me but I wasn't comfortable because she knew our secret and it was possible for her to blackmail us with it. "What happened?" I asked and touched my stomach quickly to ensure that my child was still there. "Don't fret, Corey. Your child is safe." Kai said and then I scrutinised him properly and noticed that he wasn't pro

Kai's POV Tracey dropped the tray loudly on the table and propped her arms against her waist. Corey and I exchanged looks as I quickly thought of an excuse to give her. "Urrr… Babe, she was just telling me about an experience that she had before she moved in here." I lied quickly. She nodded slowly, probably trying to connect the dots causing my heart to be on edge. I couldn't have her finding out the truth right now. "I'd actually like to know more about that story. It seems interesting, and I'd love to know how to deal with blackmailers." She smiled, but I could see through the smile and tell that it had a lot of doubt behind it. Corey picked at her fingers and began to cough lightly. It became stronger until it got worse and she began to sweat. Tracey rushed towards her with the glass of water she had brought and gave it to her. "I'm so sorry for stressing you." Tracey apologised while Corey nodded. My conscience pricked me again as it had been doing since Corey moved in. H

Tracey's POV Again, something smelled fishy between Kai and Corey. I'd kept quiet for some time because I thought that I was overreacting and reading meanings to everything, but the anxious expressions on their faces showed that they really had something deep to hide. It was obvious that their truth would lead to endless hurt for me, but what could I do than to keep living in denial? I loved Kai with all my heart, but I needed to know what he was hiding from me to be sure that our bond was still strong. In the meantime, I had to act like I wasn't suspecting anything. "Sarah, I think you need to leave," I said calmly and she stared at me like I was stupid. I chuckled while Kai held my hands, knowing how explosive my anger could be."Who do you think you are to tell me what to do, huh? These people are keeping my boyfriend captive and you're telling me to leave?" She yelled, her nose flaring in anger. I would have to talk to her later seeing that she could help me unravel the trut

Kai's POV I felt uncomfortable at the office. Deep down, I could sense that Tracey was hurt and I needed to be with her. I stopped by Lorena's desk and watched how engrossed she was in sorting out some files on her desk. When she finally noticed my presence, she flinched. "I'm sorry, sir. I didn't know that you were standing here." She apologised. "You don't need to apologise, you're just doing your job. I'll go home now because I have something important to attend to. Take care of things while I'm gone and if anything comes up, don't forget to inform me." I instructed her. "Yes, sir. I'll do just as you said." After making sure that everything was fine at the office, I clutched tightly to my bag and walked towards the parking lot of the building. I checked my wristwatch and discovered that it was just some minutes past noon. I dialled Tracey's phone but it rang and there was no response. Her action was appalling because she hardly ignored my calls no matter how busy she was.

Corey's POV My doorbell chimed as I'd decided to stay put in my room ever since Sarah confronted me at the bar. Her coming around had incited suspicions from Tracey and no matter how much I tried to put away the guilty feelings, they didn't go away. I got up from my bed and flung the covers that were over my body then raced through the hallway to the door of the living room. I peeped through the peephole and found Tracey standing with a curt smile on her face. Something was definitely wrong. "Good afternoon, Tracey. How are you?" I greeted her warmly and I pushed the door wide so that she could come in. She did, but my eyes caught the sight of her luggage on the porch before I closed the door. "I'm fine, Corey, and you must be splendid." Her tone was sarcastic which was very different from the friendly time she used on me. "Yes… I am.." I stuttered, trying to gauge the reason for her awkward response. "Have a seat, please, and maybe you can tell me why you left your box outside

Kai's POV My phone chimed on the table. I ignored it even though it could be a business call. Nothing gave me joy since Tracey left two weeks ago and every breath I took felt like it was one step to my death. It would have been better if she rejected me than giving me such cold shoulders. Damn! She wasn't even picking up my calls. The phone rang again and I picked it up without checking for the caller's identity. "Hello..""Good morning, sir. It's Mark Thomson speaking from Wales Industry, one of the companies that you did business with some months back." "Oh… How are you?" I asked and placed my head on the headrest then swirled my executive chair around. "I'm fine, sir. My boss asked me to invite you to a business conference that will be held in two days. We believe that it will be beneficial for your company seeing that you are growing in leaps and bounds." He stated and I stifled a yawn, feeling bored with the conversation. "Alright. Which state will this conference hold?"

Tracey's POV I jerked up from the bed and turned my bed lamp on, darting my eyes towards the clock hanging in my room. It was past 10 pm but why did I feel so burdened and restless? It wasn't because I missed Kai so much, it had to be something else. My phone rang and I quickly reached out for it on the bed stand. I got a missed call notification and realised that she had called four times a few minutes ago. I swiped up and picked up her call. "What's the matter, Corey? I still don't want to have anything to do with you." I said, my voice laced with hostility. "Please, you have to come back, the house is on fire and I'm scared that it has spread. I'm trying to leave but the exit door is locked which keeps me trapped." She replied, her voice shaky and filled with fear. My heart constricted knowing that Kai wasn't around. "But how did the fire start? Did you leave any of the cookers on?" "No, Tracey. I heard a yell which jolted me from my sleep, and then I turned the light on and

Kai's POV "Honey, please, stay with me." I pleaded and placed her head on my thighs as blood sipped through the injuries she had. She entwined her hand with mine and stared into my eyes with a smile. Then she averted her gaze to Corey who was sprouting on the ground. My face turned into a frown as I only noted one thing; Corey was the reason my mate was in this pain. I was close to our pack's town when she mindlinked me and sent a message so I had to hurry and get to her. If I'd believed Callan and ordered a search for Dexter, then my mate wouldn't be going through all of this. "Kai…" She mouthed, "I'm so.. sorry for.. leave… leaving." She stuttered, gasping painfully causing my heart to tear into two. "No, baby, you didn't do anything wrong. I was the one who hurt you badly by sleeping with another woman then bringing her here." I replied, but I could see her slipping away from me. "Take.. Take care… of… her." Those were her last words as she turned cold and frigid in my hands

Corey's POV I stirred restlessly on the bed with my eyes tightly shut, but my heart thumped fast as I hid between a rock in my dreams and waited for my pursuers to overtake me. Luckily, I found one and hid in it until I heard a growl at my back. I darted my eyes sharply at the sound and found a big wolf standing behind me with his claws stretched against me. "No!" I screamed at the top of my voice and jerked up the bed with sweat filling my skin. I quickly turned on my bed lamp and climbed down from the bed, panting heavily and palming my chest. I was very sure that I wouldn't be able to sleep again so I thought of who to go to. I'd have called Tracey if she was still alive but she was gone. My eyes brimmed with tears as I remembered how kind and caring she was. If I wasn't around, she would have still been alive. The wind howled, slapping against my window. I couldn't take it anymore, I wore my crocs and glanced at Lolly who was sleeping peacefully then ran to Kai's room. His
