They both stared at each other, but Grace wanted to look away, no she wanted to walk away, but she didn’t want him thinking she was hiding something.Maybe she was, and she just wanted it to stay that way.“Is something wrong, Grace?” Noah asked, eyeing her carefully. “You haven’t said one word since we came back.” He said.Lifting her shoulder in a shrug, she said. “You told me we needed to talk, so I was waiting for you to do the talking.”Noah nodded, but he knew she was just being evasive. “Do you mind if we go sit down?” He asked and she nodded. They both walked to the living room and took their seat on separate couches, but then, Noah stood up and walked to the couch she was sitting down at.As soon as he did that, she looked at him for a meeting, then without saying a word, she pushed her head down, her hair suddenly covering her face.Noah reached out a large hand to brush her hair off her face to hold it behind her ear, and then he used his hand to raise her chin up so that s

She was having one of those nightmares again, and it woke Noah up from his sleep as well. Noah stirred in his sleep, the sound of distant whimpers slowly pulling him out of his sleep. At first, he didn’t understand what was happening because he was all groggy and disoriented, then he sat up in his bed, his mind registering the source of the sound. It was coming from Grace’s room.It was Grace. The whimpers grew louder, turning into muffled sobs that echoed through the silent house. Concerned, Noah threw off his covers, wore his slippers, and walked out of his room to pad softly across the hallway towards her room.He would have thought that there was someone in her room making her sound like that, but he had witnessed her having a nightmare before, so he knew that was what it was.In his opinion, he still think that she needed to see a therapist, because she would not be able to break free from whatever it was that was hunting her in her sleep if she didn’t, and that wouldn’t be good

Grace hesitated for a moment before nodding. “I just felt so lost and alone in that place, and I was so scared when I started to run, like I was struggling against nature. I couldn’t find my way back home, and everything was dark,” she explained, her voice still shaky, and Noah listened attentively.Of course, he couldn’t say he understood how she was feeling after that kind of dream, but all he could do was offer her some reassurance and comfort. He needed to help her find relief in the face of all of these, and let her know he was right here for her.He offered a reassuring smile. “You’re never alone, Grace. I’m here, and so is everyone else, including Charlotte, my brother, my parents. We’ll always help you find your way back no matter where it is.” He said. There was no such things as helping her without her willing to be helped though, which was why he needed that talk. Sighing, he pulled her into a side hug one last time, before pulling back from her.Grace managed a small smile

Grace awoke with a start, a fleeting moment of panic seizing her as she sensed someone behind her. Wasn’t just behind her though, because she soon felt his hand wrapped around her.Swallowing, she popped her eyes open slowly, trying not to startle or wake whoever it was.For a moment, confusion clouded her mind; someone in her room wasn’t plausible until the events of last night flooded back. As she turned her head, her gaze met Noah’s calm eyes, and a mix of emotions swept through her.She had not only asked me to wait a little but sleep in her bed, and he had looked at her with an unreadable expression for a while, before he had nodded his head in agreement. What the hell did that even mean? She lay there, gathering her thoughts. The confusion she was feeling lingered within her, because of the warmth she felt toward Noah. Her heart raced with both comfort and unease. She couldn’t ignore the implications of having Noah beside her after such an emotional night. Why had she told him t

Grace thought to make raspberry pie and take them over to the Noah’s parents, just to be nice, and repay back their kindness, not that it was enough. As she walked through the aisle in the store, she recited the list of things she needed to buy.A man she hadn't seen before around town came to stand in front of her, blocking her path, causing her heart to leap to her throat. He was huge, just like Noah, with strong fat biceps and everything. She didn’t think they came in a pair like this, and wondered how many more men were this huge in this town.Grace tried to go around him but he said. "Hi, Grace. I'm... " He started but was interrupted."If you don't leave me the hell alone, I'm calling the cops." She said. She tried not to allow the fear she was feeling to show through her eyes. That would be a dead giveaway of what she was feeling. Showing that she was scared even though she was in a public place and she shouldn’t, wasn’t a good idea.He would probably want to come back when it

Grace sat in the kitchen, her new laptop open in front of her. She casually checked her old college email account, the one she had communicated with some old friends from college with. She that she could feel secure as it was a forgotten trace from her past that she kept hidden from her husband, Jack.As she scrolled through, a new email popped up, catching her attention. With a frown, she clicked on it to check what the mail was about. She knew it wasn’t junk mail, because she would have deleted it immediately. It was from Garrett Sullivan, an old friend who had helped her in the past to uncover information about her birth parents. The subject line made her heart skip a beat. She wondered what he had found out again, because that was their deal, for him to only contact her when it was absolutely necessary, just in case her husband found out.Well, he couldn’t find out now, because she wasn’t there with him any longer.Clicking open the email, Grace’s eyes widened as she read Garrett’

“I didn’t mean to startle you, Grace, really.” Noah said as he walked into the kitchen and saw her jump when he called her name. His footsteps echoed across the kitchen tiles as he approached Grace, his brows knit with concern. “Grace, are you okay? You seem… shaken.” He asked her as he looked at her.Grace flinched a little as if she was caught off guard by Noah’s sudden presence again. She hastily wiped a stray tear from her cheek, attempting to compose herself. “Oh, it’s nothing, just… something I stumbled upon,” she muttered, avoiding eye contact.“But you don’t have to worry.” She added.“Really, I shouldn’t worry? I just saw you wipe a tear, didn’t I?” He asked, pushing his brows up.“It’s nothing, seriously. It’s not something big or serious enough to bother me. I guess something flew into my eyes, so…” she said, trailing off when she didn’t know what to say any more.Noah’s gaze softened as he pulled out a chair to sit opposite her. “Come on, Grace. I might have only met you i

As the weight of her secrets loomed heavy in the air, Grace took a deep breath, steeling herself to confide in Noah. “Noah, there’s something I’ve never shared with anyone before. It’s about my past, my life before everything changed.” She started, and Noah pushed forward in his chair. He knew there were still things she hadn’t shared with her, a big chunk of information that was missing, but he didn’t think to ask her, because that might scare her. He had just left things the way they were, hoping that she would tell him whatever it was when she was ready. With the look of things now, she seemed like she was ready to share.Noah leaned in even more, his eyes encouraging her to continue. “Take your time, Grace. I’m here.” He said. One thing he had realized about Grace was the fact that, she always took several step back into her shell at the first sign of trouble, or the fact that the person she was trying to talk to might be bothered instead of being there for her. He needed her to k

The aroma of sizzling garlic filled the kitchen as Grace stirred the bubbling tomato sauce. Her culinary sanctuary was a haven, a place to focus, yet today her mind drifted. All she could think about was the words Zeke and Noah were whispering to each other just some feet away.Across the marble-topped kitchen table, Zeke and Noah talked about her ex husband, and for some reason, they were talking so lowly she couldn’t hear them. Noah gestured emphatically while explaining the details of the situation to him, his eyes sparkling with anger.Zeke was leaned in towards him, nodding attentively, his hand occasionally going to cover up his mouth as he listened to what Noah had to say.Noah and her had both decided it was best he was the one to explain things to Zeke because she couldn’t go over talking about it with him, or even talking about it again.“I could probably help with that,” Zeke voice rose suddenly, his gaze shifting towards Grace. “Hacking and decoding encrypted files? It’s k

Grace had just made her way to the front door, ready to open it when a forceful push surprised her. She looked at who it was and she saw that it was Diana.Diana strode past Grace, marching confidently into the house like she own the place. She had a look on her face, and she looked down at Grace from her nose like she wasn’t even worth to stand before her.To say that she was stunned by the intrusion was saying the least, Grace watched as Diana made a beeline for the kitchen where Noah and Zeke, Noah’s brother, were gathered. What was the woman’s problem, really? She had no problem that she was visiting Noah, because really it was none of her business, but the way she treated her, it was really like she was a dirt on her shoes, and that infuriated her. But, she was not in the mood at all to say anything to her. It was what she was dealing with, with her ex husband that she was thinking about.Shaking her head, she walked back to the kitchen and walked to the stew she was making, glan
