Chapter 29
Chapter 29 Lydia’s POV “What are you doing here?” Darwin growled as his eyes narrowed suspiciously. “I don’t know what you mean. Am I now banned from roaming about the palace?” I stood upright and patted my hair down while avoiding his eyes. “Lydia,” He sighed in exasperation and pinched the bridge of his nose “You’re in front of Freya’s room. She’s in solitary confinement, so yes for you to be here, you must have a reason. What is it?” Freya’s room? I looked back in confusion. “Your little race landed us in front of his daughter’s room." Drusilla snickered as I crossed my arms and turned back to Darwin. “So? Am I forbidden from visiting Freya? What if I wanted to get to know my new daughter better?” “Lydia!” Darwin leaned in, and pressed one hand against the door behind my head. “You don't even like her and we haven’t done the wedding." “Yet,” I swallowed as I watched his eyes switch color briefly. He was so close, I dropped my hands and could feel his breath on my face.

Chapter 30 “Get off me!” I pushed Darwin away angrily as I got to my feet. He seemed shocked and his eyes widened as he realised I was angry. “Lydia, I– “ “No! You don’t get to talk! Move!” I snapped as I pulled at the bedcover he was sitting on. “I’m sorry,” He apologised and tried to reach for me. I slapped his hands away before he could touch me. “Move!” I huffed as I pulled forcefully at the covers. “Ly, I’m sorry,” I grunted and pulled at the covers as he shifted to the right. The sudden release of the covers made the force I was applying pull me and I crashed into the bed. “Hey, steady,” I blinked and realised, I had fallen into Darwin’s lap. His arms automatically encircled me, the only thing seperating me from his chest was his chest. The first two buttons were popped open so they did no good in stopping me as I stared and licked my lips unconsiously. “Lydia,” Darwin purred as he bent his head lower and stared into my eyes. “I shouldn’t have done that. I’m sorry,”

Lydia’s POVI stared in silence for a few seconds before I chuckled.“Yeah, fat chance of a maid getting involved with another supernatural,”“Lydia, I’m serious,” Lily sighed.“I am too,” I dropped the brush and stared at my reflection in the mirror “There’s no way my mum was involved with another supernatural. Besides, which supernatural would I be?”“A witch? A vampire? A fairy?” I chuckled as I shook the ridiculous motion from my head. “I don’t have a scrap of magic or the slightest desire for blood.“How do you explain your powers?” I walked out of the closet, suddenly frustrated and tired of the conversation.“Which powers Lil? Which powers? This is just a glitch in the system. Maybe because I’m mated to the rogue king or maybe the moon goddess made a mistake,” I turned around and sighed, “Have you considered that? Something this inconsequential doesn’t make me special."“Lydia, you have other abilities,” Lily said softly but I could tell her resolve was waning.“Yet none of t

Lydia’s POV“What?” Confusion riddled with amusement clouded Darwin’s features. “Lydia, I’m not dying. I just want to recreate it,” But why!!I whined in my head but gave him a nod.“Alright. So do you need me to work?” I shuffled from one feet to the other as my cheeks stained with thoughts of his hands on my skin last night.“No.” Darwin shook his head. “No, I don’t need anything. You can, take the day off,” I gave him a nod and moved back, unsure of what to do.The lab door opened and two girls filed out, covered in smoke and dark streaks from the explosion.“Is there no other way to do this?” I frowned at Darwin “The whole thing seems dangerous,”“If there was another way, I would have taken that route. The reaction requires human touch and a special type of fire.Wilson isn’t exactly forthcoming with information so I’m working with what we have,” Darwin slid his hands into the pockets of his pants.Human touch? Fire? I’ve never questioned how the elixir was made but now I under

Lydia’s POVWait what?! Amari and Lily are mates?!I watched silently in surprise as Amari walked towards Lily with moony eyes.He stopped in front of her and slowly raised his hand to tuck a piece of hair behind her ear.“Good day Your majesty. Bye Lydia,” Lily rushed out as she jerked back from Amari’s touch and bolted from the room.“Lily! Wait!” I tried to run after her but was held back by a strong arm around my waist.“Let me go!” I snapped at Darwin.“No,” he shook his head and inclined it in Amari’s direction “Look,”I paused and looked to realise Amari had run after Lily.“Oh,” I sighed and relaxed against Darwin “That was unexpected,”He chuckled and Drusilla protested as he let go of me.“Yeah, I didn’t expect that too. But I’m glad Amari has found his mate.”“Hmmm” I hummed and moved towards the vanity. I stood in front of the mirror watching as Darwin moved closer to me, yet I jumped as his hands encircled my waist and his chin rested on my head.I took in shaky breaths

Lydia’s POVI looked up, startled, as Lily slipped into the library.“Shut the door!” I whisper-yelled in alarm.“Okay, Okay” She chuckled and shut the door behind her. “I thought you were going to wait for me… but apparently not."I smiled uncomfortably “Well, you did run out of the palace yesterday and respond to my sixty anxious texts and call with an ‘I’m fyn’ So forgive me if I assumed you wouldn’t be coming to the palace today."Lily’s cheeks pinkened and she adjusted her glasses and walked towards me.“I’m sorry. Yesterday was just…”Worry filled me as I watched the sadness in her eyes. “What’s the problem? Don’t you like Amari?”“No, it’s not… “ She shut her eyes tightly “It’s just… I don’t want a mate."I blinked in surprise. That was the last thing I expected to hear. ]“Lily, all you’ve done for the last two years is fantasize about your mate,” I deadpanned and crossed my arms."Yeah, well, I changed my mind." She hissed in irritation. This makes no sense to me. “But Lily–

Chapter 35Darwin’s POV“Your Majesty,” The air hostess bowed as she unlocked my seat belt. “We’ve arrived,”“Thank you,” I gave her a nod as I got to my feet and followed behind her out of the jet.As I walked down unto the roof of the Lycan’s palace, the loud sound of the Jet’s rotating blades made me cringe and I squinted as the wind from the blade made my hair whip about.“Wclmme yur mmjssy” A man dressed in a suit bowed before me but I could barely hear him over the sound of the Jet’s blades. The sound of the Jet’s blades dimmed as he led me away from the roof down into the building.****“No. Going to the ball would be a bad idea. Lorcan can not know we’re working together,” Dimitri shook his head lightly as he stopped tapping with his pen and waited for my reply.“Look.” I sighed in irritation “It’s a masked ball. A masked ball,” I repeated for emphasis.“You would be there to help but your face would be masked. Because—““It’s a masked ball,” Dimitri chuckled “I heard you the

Chapter 36Lydia’s POV“Don’t put too much,” I bit my lip worriedly as I watched Lily’s hand tip the vial and release a stream of truth serum into the glass bottle.“Relax, a bit more than needed won’t harm him. All it’ll do is send him to the toilet... He certainly deserves it anyway,” Lily murmured under her breath as she finished lacing the drink and capped the vial back.“I don’t want any suspicious activity. If he suddenly gets explosive diarrhea the same day we give him some food, Margery will breathe down my neck,” I complained as I finished arranging the plate set on the tray.Lily raised the glass bottle to the light and shook gently “You don’t have to worry. She won’t,”***My heart thundered as we walked into the prison cells carrying two different trays filled with food and, of course, the bottle of orange juice we had specially prepared for the occasion.“Right there,, Miss.” The guard leading us pointed to the last cell near the wall. “He’s isolated from other inmates.I

Chapter 37Lydia’s POV“Ly, do you know what this means?” Lily’s voice was excited as her hands laced through me.“Hold on, hold on,” I said to her as I shook my head in confusion. “What do you mean, Fae blood? How then did Alpha Mike and the alphas before him make the elixir? There were all werewolves so this doesn’t make any sense."“FFfffe immmmrtallll,” Wilson droned as his head lolled backward and a snore escaped him.“No.” I shook my head hysterically as I put my hands through the cell door bars and took hold of Wilson’s shirt. “No no no no no no. Wake up!” I shook Wilson angrily. “Wake up!”“Lydia, let him be." I vaguely heard Lily’s pleading voice but I was too absorbed in waking Wilson up to make sense of my surroundings.“Wake up and give me an explanation right now!” I snapped as I cracked a slap across Wilson’s face but his eyes only fluttered open for a second before they closed right back.“Wake up Dammit!” I raised my palm to slap him again when a screech froze me.“WH

Lydia’s POV I tossed in bed that night, with the name Lyssandra on my lips. Who had she been? She was Freya’s mother but that was all I knew of the late woman who Darwin had loved fiercely. “But then she broke his heart. Even before their mate bond was dissolved,” Drusilla cut through my thoughts snarkily. “He’s ours now,” “Stop it!” I snapped at her, but internally I was pleased. My phone beeped with a text from Darwin. It was a picture of a duvet and pillow set up on the floor, just like I used to do it. Along with the caption, “Not used to sleeping alone so I made your bed to pretend like you’re here,” So sweet. My heart was going to burst with happiness. With a chuckle, I took a picture of me in bed in his shirt and sent it to him. So what if Lyssandra had been a terrible wife and left Darwin with psychosis? As I drifted off to sleep, only one thought was clear. I don’t know this Lyssandra woman, but I’m grateful to her for giving me Darwin. ************* “What did y
