CHAPTER FORTY-ONE: Threats.

Lily comes back out a moment later with the same files in her hand. She looks at me and then at the door like she would rather be in any other place than in my presence. “Roman said I should give this to you.” Lily says looking away as she places the files before me. I merely nod my head, effectively dismissing her. I had no reason to make small talk or ask irrelevant questions. I keep typing away on my computer if only to avoid having to be put under the stress of forcing a conversation with this new lady. When she leaves, I breathe in a huge sigh of relief and look at the time, counting down the minutes to lunch break. I'm tempted to take out my phone and type away but I remember clearly that it is one of the rules in this company's handbook that the use of a phone during work hours is prohibited. I'm shaken out of my reverie when the fancy telephone on my desk table rings. “Hello, this is Montgomery Enterprises, how may I help you?” Romans's deep voice comes through the phone

CHAPTER FORTY-TWO: Public Statement.

Roman Montgomery.Lily Feyman. Those were the only two people who had access to my desk while I was away having lunch with Ashley. But Roman couldn't have been the one to drop that letter. What would be his endgame? The person who dropped that message, obviously wanted to separate me from Roman. I look at the door to Romans' office and contemplate whether I'm making the right decision by keeping this away from him. The person could also only be playing jokes, right? What are the chances that my life might actually be under threat? There was really no need to raise an alarm over nothing. I put the paper away, deciding to put the threat out of my mind. I jerk off my chair and almost fall to the ground when the company's phone starts ringing. I dart a look around, worried that Roman might have seen me acting weirdly. I wouldn't put it past him to run an investigation to satisfy his curiosity. “Hello, this is Montgomery Enterprises. How may I help you?” I ask with a smile I know th

CHAPTER FORTY-THREE: Wrong Footage.

“If you stare at him one more time, I will be forced to carve his pretty head out of his body.” Roman says with a growl that almost makes me believe his statement. “I wasn't staring at him!” I say angrily to Roman. “Try again, princess. This time with the truth.” Roman says, glaring at Noah across the table. Apparently, Noah was related to the host so he was seated at our table. “How could I concentrate on any other person when you are around?” I ask through gritted teeth, realising my mistake only after I had said the words. Roman's face transforms into a triumphant smirk at my words. I look away from him and try as much as possible to concentrate on the host who was currently giving a speech on her calling as a philanthropist. Pfftt. As expected. When Vanessa is done with her speech, she comes to our table and sits down on the other side of Roman. Roman gives her a flat stare before turning his attention back to me. “Is the wine to your liking?” He asks in a soft tone. I nod

CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR: Deal Breaker.

“This was clearly edited!” I say angrily through clenched teeth, refusing to let Vanessa see that she had successfully riled me up. “Step outside, princess.” Roman says in a calm, quiet tone. I look at him with hurt-filled eyes, but even then, he still refuses to look at me. I know I shouldn't be, but I'm shocked at his reaction. With all he's said and done up to this point, I thought that he would at least believe my words over the words of some conniving little bitch. Vanessa gives me a triumphant look which makes me flush red with anger. I stomp out of the room, only allowing the tears to run down my face when I was safely away from them. I pace the hallway, wondering what it would be like to stab Roman in the eyes. The thought keeps me pretty occupied till Roman steps out with a scared-looking Vanessa. Roman gives her a wilting look and if it is possible, her face becomes whiter. “I'm— so—rry, Aella.” She says, stumbling over her words. I'm speechless and short of words a

CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE: Sabotage!

I wake up the same way. Wrapped tightly around Roman. I slowly unwrap his hands from my middle, leaning away in order to disentangle myself from him. I wanted or rather needed to escape from his room before he woke up. I don't think I can face him this morning. “Where do you think you are going?” Roman's growly voice says before he pulls me into him. I inhale sharply, startled by the warmth engulfing me. “I have to get ready for work. I work for you, remember?” I say to him, deciding to ignore his morning wood, which was currently poking my thigh. “Now I regret that decision.” Roman says in an exaggeratedly sad tone, which still does not stop my heart from beating a mile an hour. Roman pulls me tighter into him if that is even possible considering how close I already am to him and places a kiss on my neck and cheek. “Can I go now?” I ask in a squeaky tone. “It's cute that you seek my permission, princess. Yes, you may leave.” Roman says with a smirk. I bristle at his tone, f

CHAPTER FORTY-SIX: Compulsory Dinner.

I get out of the car hastily, slamming the door shut angrily the moment it rolls to a stop in front of the house, which was strangely lit considering it wasn't even night time. I mumble a response to the housekeeper's greetings, barely holding in my anger. I stomp into my room and throw myself down on my bed face first. Roman had refused to listen to anything I had to say. Instead, he had ordered the driver to take me home and when I physically refused to, he had lifted me like a sack of potatoes throwing me over his shoulders, and proceeding to deposit me in the back of the car. He didn't come home with me like we've been doing for the past week. Home. This place was definitely beginning to grow on me. When it's time for dinner, I expect to see Roman in the dining room, but he is strangely absent. Due to the emptiness, I end up telling one of the maids to take the food up to my room for me. I eat on the bed, in a totally sour and sullen mood. I contemplate calling him a good nu

CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN: Could Be Taken Away.

I kick my chair back angrily, standing up so suddenly I feel my gaze go hazy for some minutes. “Calm down, son. Let's sit and talk for some minutes.” My Father says in a patronising tone. “You already made me employ her. I would have nothing to do with her unless it is work-related.” I say with a clenched jaw. “Is this how you welcome me, Mr Montgomery?” The man who appears to be Lily's father asks with a scoff. I feel an eerie calmness wash all over me as I stalk towards him. I see the uncertainty and fear in his eyes as he takes a step backwards. “I'm sorry— we will just———” Lily starts to say, stepping in between me and her father. I push her away harshly, not caring that she might bump into the strong wooden table. I take the two long steps that bring me closer to him, and with a hand on his neck, I slam him into the wall, lifting him up. “What the fuck did you just say?” I ask in a deceptively calm tone. In his defence he didn't really say anything insulting to me but fu

CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT: Cloaked Figure.

“Are you sure you're good?” Ashley asks, stopping in between her speech to ensure I'm good. I force a smile to my lips as I respond. “Why won't I be?” It was in no way Ashley's fault that I was in danger, so I refuse to take it out on her even if it means faking a smile or faking my interest in her discussions. “Huh. I can swear you look pale.” Ashley says, giving me a look that clearly shows she probably does not believe me. “Wait…… are these the early signs of your pregnancy? Dang it! You should have taken that pill when I offered it to you.” Ashley says, slamming her fist into her palms. “What the hell are you talking about?” I ask with a heavy frown of annoyance on my face. “Wait…. Are your breasts tender? Do you now have the morning sickness? When was your last flow?” Ashley asks a series of questions, not leaving any room for me to respond. “I'm not pregnant!” I say a little too loudly, trying to burst through her iron shield bubble of delusion. “Oh my God! There's going

CHAPTER FORTY-NINE: Interrogation.

“But… But I didn't do anything wrong.” I say with my heart in my throat. “Don't give me that, princess. You know exactly what you did. Do you want me to list them out for you.” Roman says with a deceptively calm look on his face. I shake my head and gulp loudly. Subconsciously, I knew there would be repercussions for what I did, I just refused to accept it. There was no use stalling now. I move the duvet away from my body and step down gingerly from the bed. When the cold air hits my bare thighs, I regret taking off my hose, skirt, and shirt, exchanging them for a mid thigh simple nightwear. I stop about two feet away from him, with my eyes trained hardly on the ground. I hear Roman sigh heavily, the only sign of his exasperation. “Come closer, princess.” I take one more step towards him, not being physically capable of taking the last step. I let out a startled cry when Roman pulls me closer with a hand on my waist. I'm breathing heavily by the time he lets me stand on my own

CHAPTER FIFTY: Deserted Room.

“Why would he want to hurt me?” I ask as I scurry closer to Roman. Roman pulls me into him, placing my head on his chest. “I don't know, princess. Don't worry your pretty little head over all this, I promise to keep you safe, but you have to let me.” I heave a huge sigh of relief at his promise. I can at least accept that Roman makes me feel safe. But— could it be that his father is also the one behind the notes? ———————————ROMAN'S POV “Oh my gosh, we are late!” Aella says scrambling off the bed. I look at the little bedside clock and sigh heavily. “We are not late, princess. You are not going to work today.” I say, drinking in the marvellous sight that is her beautiful face. She looks like she is about to argue but a look flashes across her face and she chooses to remain silent. I'm pretty sure her near death experience of yesterday has a huge hand in her compliance. At that thought, I feel my hands clench tightly into a fist. I really do hope my father is not responsible f
