Chapter 23
I must have waited for an eternity. And then… nothing. I didn’t feel his lips on me. I realized I didn’t feel any part of my body touching his. Then I heard him say, “Midnight snack?” Slowly, I opened my eyes. He was staring down at me with an amused expression on his face. “What did you say?” I asked. “I said, I’m hungry. I would like you to cook midnight snack for us,” he replied. I blinked back at him. “Tha-that’s all?” He took a step back and blinked back at me. The look on his face was innocent and amused at the same time. And suddenly, I felt confused. “Yes. That’s all. Your friends said you can cook. And suddenly, I’m starving. What do you say? Cook for your big brother?” Shit! Is he fucking kidding me? I took a moment to compose myself. Then I smiled back at him. “Sure. What do you want to eat?” He shrugged. “Something with soup would be perfect for the weather.” He pointed at the kitchen. “Knock yourself out.” I nodded and walked toward the kitchen. Suddenly, I f

Zach shook his head. “Unless you have the power to stop a storm.” “What about our clothes?” “I have clothes here. You can borrow mine. I’ve got a stock of new toothbrushes too and clean towels. If you’re hungry, I’ve got enough food here.” He went to the double-door fridge and opened it for me to see. He had beers, Breezers, milk, fruits, ice cream, and ready-made foodstuff. “I can stay here for days and never go hungry,” he said. I reached forward and touched the bottle of watermelon Breezers and smiled to myself. “There’s a bathroom upstairs. You might want to take a shower. My clothes are in the cabinet. You can borrow whatever you want. When you come down, we’ll play some pool and drink some beer.” He led me upstairs. There was a canopy double bed and matching gray-wash bedside table and wardrobe cabinet. Seeing the bed made me gulp. It brought back a lot of memories of that night I spent with him. I quickly shut the memory out of mind. I can’t think about him that way! E

Chapter 22
I stared at the table with my mouth hanging open. I didn’t see Zachary move, but I felt the heat of his body behind me. I heard him whisper in my ear, “Whatever I want, baby girl.” There was something dangerous in the tone of his voice, which made my heart pound ten times harder. I watched him take the aim for the last striped ball on the table. He looked like a man on a mission, and I knew he was going to win this game. He stared at the target like a hawk keeping its eye on its prey. He took a shot. It was lightning fast. I blinked, and the striped ball was gone into the pocket and the cue ball spinning in the center, in perfect alignment to the eight ball. He walked behind me. I felt his hand brush my hip slightly as his hot breath tickled my ear. “Don’t worry, baby girl. I won’t do anything naughty… that you don’t want me to.” Shit! The sound of his voice, the heat of his body, the feel of his breath against my skin—I felt my knees turn to jelly, and it felt like my body was m

Chapter 24
Zach.It was forbidden. She was forbidden. She was still my adoptive parents’ daughter. The society still saw us as siblings. We lived in the same house. Her blood relatives still saw me as their own. There were still some things that people around us couldn’t understand. Our parents would not accept this. Dad wouldn’t. And I was more afraid of what he would do to her. He loved me. But he didn’t love her.I didn’t care what they’ll do or say to me or about me. I was only worried about her. As her big brother, it was left up to me to protect her reputation, her dignity. I was the last person expected to corrupt her innocence. And I did just that the past few months. I was in the shadows, watching over her, watching who moved within her circle. Shoo away any guy who may be interested in her, threaten them if necessary. Like I said, I was possessive that way. And if I couldn’t have her, no one could! It’s hard enough for me to deal with not having her. Imagine how I’d be, dealing with so

Chapter 25
Blaire.“House party Friday night. Are you going?” April asked me Tuesday afternoon. I had a free period, and we were hanging out in the open grounds in front of the main building.“Whose party is it?”“Drake, my cousin.”“I’m not invited, and I don’t know him.”“You’re coming with me, silly,” she said. “Unless you have plans, of course.”I wasn’t sure. Last Friday was one of the most incredible Fridays of my life. And I had a date with my brother. Nothing less than brotherly happened, of course, except for the fact that we sort of admitted to each other that we’re still attracted to each other. But in the end, we knew we were both fighting that attraction. That night, I slept in his bed in the mezzanine floor, and he slept on the couch downstairs. He took me home afterward, and I hadn’t heard from or seen him ever since. And I had to admit, I missed him so much.Just then, he appeared at the top of the steps of the main building. He was wearing a pair of jeans, white shirt, and a blu

Blaire.I gave him one last glare, and then I went inside his car.He kneeled beside me and said, “I will close the door. If you were planning to run off as I round my car, I want to remind you, I can run really fast. I’ll just haul you back again. And I won’t get tired of doing it over and over.”I glared at him.“Good,” he said.He went inside the car and locked the doors. Then he started driving in silence.Halfway through the drive, he finally spoke, “What’s the problem, baby girl?”“There’s no problem, Zach!” I muttered. Yeah, he could screw whoever he wanted, and I didn’t have any right to stop him. I didn’t have the right to get jealous, but fuck! That’s what I was feeling! I was jealous of the fact that he’d been hooking up with other girls while I was not yet over him! He just told me last Friday that he was still into me. How quickly did he get over me?“There is if you’re acting that way,” he said. “What did I do this time?”“Nothing!” I said. There was no way I would admit

Zach.“What’s up, bro? You don’t sound too well,” Kenzo said to me on the other line.“Well, maybe that’s because I’m on the verge of killing myself.”“Really? Let me know how that goes when you wake up in the hospital.”“How sure are you that I’m going to survive a suicide attempt?”“Bad weeds never die, my friend,” he teased.I fell silent for a moment. I was sitting in the balcony of my room, staring out the wonderful view in front of me.“This is serious. Is it about family?” Kenzo asked.“Close.”“Is it about a girl?”“Definitely.”“Whoa! The last girl you were obsessing with was my girl’s best friend. And I know you didn’t pursue her. And honestly, I don’t know why. You mean there’s a new girl?”“No. Same girl. This seems to be my problem, bro. It always boils down to the same girl.”“I… don’t get you.”“What I’m about to tell you, man, you have to keep to yourself.”“When did I ever spill?” he asked.I took a deep breath.“You remember I told you I have a little sister?”“Oh ye

Zach.“Hook up with other girls. Keep fucking Stephanie Bell. Be a sex-crazed college jock. There’s a long line of girls wanting a piece of you. Take a pick.”Was that why she was here on a date? Because she thought I was screwing another girl behind her back? After spending that amazing Friday with her and telling her how much I still wanted her?I didn’t know Stephanie Bell personally. She was stalking me. Messaging me. But I was ignoring her. I made it clear that I wasn’t interested. For months now, there was only one girl who’d been constantly on my mind. And just when I thought I made it clear to her how much I wanted her, Stephanie Bell had to put other ideas in her head, and now, she’s here with some other guy I was about to murder. I just might include Stephanie in my hit list.I went up the second floor and exited toward the balcony. This gave me a view of the pool and garden. I scanned through the area for her. I found her sitting in one corner, holding a bottle of Breezer i

Chapter 29
Blaire. When April picked me up in my house, I wasn’t expecting her to be with some guys, whom she introduced as Jasper Litton and Elias Johnson. She was dating Elias on and off. Jasper was his friend. On my way out of the house, I saw Zach’s car parked up front, which meant he was home all day. That was strange. I was expecting him to go to the party with Stephanie Bell wrapped all over him.“Was that Z Reed’s car?” Elias asked, pointing at Zach’s car before he drove off.I wanted to deny it, but Zach was the only one who drove an Aston Martin to school. Plus, his plate number says “ZEE,” so it was pretty much a giveaway.“Yeah, it is,” I answered quietly.“What’s it doing in your house?” Jasper Litton asked.“Z is actually her brother, right, Blaire?”“What?!” both boys asked in shock.“I know. I couldn’t believe it at first too,” April said.“How did that happen? You have different surnames,” Elias said.“It’s not impossible. And it happens a lot,” I said. I couldn’t go tell strang

Jasper said that loud enough for everybody to hear. I watched Zach’s face. He held his angry expression in place. He didn’t change it, like whatever Jasper said didn’t affect him at all.“Stay away from her!” he warned him again.Zach shook off Drake’s arms around him. Then he walked toward me. I was struggling to catch my breath as everybody watched us.Zach looked down at me, his face was crimson, but his expression was unreadable.“Let’s go,” his voice was low, thick with emotions. I couldn’t say no.I simply nodded, and I felt him take my hand and pull me toward the exit. I walked behind him quietly. He held the door out open for me. I got into his car without a word of protest. We drove silently. He was staring up ahead, and his knuckles were white from gripping the steering wheel so hard. I was confronted by mixed emotions. Some more powerful than the others. I was angry at Jasper for being so brazen. I was furious at him for pointing out to Zach that he was just jealous because
