[Axel] After completing a few sweeps of the grounds and not finding any signs of intruders, I rushed back to the house to get changed for the barbeque.By the time I returned, Rosalynd had already changed into the clothes and shoes that my father left for her, relics from my childhood that instantly bring back memories of my mother wearing these items to official pack functions. Seeing them on my mate makes my heart swell. It's like my mom is here with us too, approving of our union. When Rosie turns, the violet undertones of her gray eyes make them appear almost lavender as the purple lace dress draws attention to them. She has pulled her hair off her neck, using two pearl combs, putting her fresh mark on display, and from each ear dangles a matching teardrop earring. She is wearing a pair of my mother&

[Rosalynd] With her black hair piled on her head in long loose curls, wearing emeralds at her ears and a dark green dress, Alexa would look stunning if her face was not red and speckled with white dots of rage. “What are you telling my son?” she seethes. “Stay away from him, don’t talk to him, it is not your place to explain our mating rituals to him.” “You’re right,” I agree as I rise. She takes a long look at my mark, not so different from the scar on her own neck, and she hisses like a stray cat. “It isn’t.” “It’s your job,” Axe

[Evander] The darkness is complete. Blinking, the quality of light does not change as there simply is no light. My Fae eyes were designed to work in the faint moonlight under trees and there has never been a time when the light was so complete that I couldn't see at least an outline or a silhouette. But tonight, there is not even the smallest flickering of a candle. The sounds around me are calm, the slow drip of water, the sound of soft footsteps on earthen floors. There is a gentle murmuring just outside my range of hearing, muffled as if heard through several walls and doors, so far away as to not be discernible. Lying prone on my back, the feeling of fine silk under my fingertips is cool and smooth. As I move my legs, it creates the crisp rustling sound of fine silk fabric. The pillow underneath my head is soft with bits of solidity, not the even fluff of modern synthetic fibers, but the old familiar feel of goose down. Feather pillows give comfort like no other. Weigh me do

[Slone] The world looks so small. Has it always been so small? The master had warned me that from above things would be different, that when I finally found my true power I'd be higher than the others, looking down at them from a terrible height as I was raised aloft with the force of my power. He was serious. I am above everyone. At least fifty feet above everyone. When I was a child I'd occasionally have dreams that I was flying. Didn't we all? But actually hovering above everyone, held aloft by nothing more than magic and imagination is a completely different experience than anything I could have dreamed of. It is one thing to have a birds-eye view, bit to feel the lack of anything solid between me and the world beyond is terrifying, but also amazing. I had no idea that magic could feel like this. Nothing I did with the coven prepared me for the thrill of having so much energy coursing through my body. My body is cocooned within a nebulous cloud of energy that stings me w

[Rosalynd] “That was an Earthquake,” Axel dismisses it. “I don’t even think it was that bad. Maybe a 3.6?” “Sounds like it knocked down one of the giants,” Patrick shrugs as if things like this happen every day out here in the woods. “It’s always a bit loud when things like that happen.” “Giants!,” I squeak. “Giants are real?!!” My eyes must appear ridiculous with shock because the two men look over at me and begin to laugh. “Oh sweetie,” Patrick reaches over and pats me on the shoulder. “I forgot that you are new to these p
