As the days went on Symphony showed improvement, it was still slow, but she was getting better day by day. She had finally been allowed to get up and move and wasn’t confined to her bed anymore so that was a big plus for her. Alexander barely left her side except at night when he tried to get information out of Fiona, who still wasn’t talking. Damion tried to find out what he could using his network of informants but was finding out much on his end either. He had gone home once Symphony was on the mend and promised to keep his ears open for any new information that came his way. Alexander owed him a great deal for helping like he had, and Damion told him that in time all debts would be paid.Gavin had taken shifts with Alexander on keeping an eye over Symphony and guarding Fiona. He was rather impressed at Fiona unwillingness to talk after the torture that Alexander had put her through. The day of Symphony’s birthday drew closer, and it was a bittersweet feeling for her. She wished she was able to have her friends at her party, but she knew that wouldn’t be happening. Worst of all she missed her best friend, Fiona, granted she was tormented and put through hell by her just a short time ago, but she was still Symphony’s best friend for 11 years. She wondered if she could invite some of the people, she had met in Pawfoot. She would have to ask. She did miss the hotel owner whom she had helped for room and food. It was hard to believe that that was almost a year ago. Alexander had all but given up on getting any information out of Fiona, he had been doing his worst on her for almost a month and still she wouldn’t break, he even let Dax come out and try to get her to talk. The day of Symphony’s birthday had arrived, and she felt more anxious than normal. Alexander had made some phone calls and placed before her were several beautiful dresses. She was perfectly content wearing something out of her closet, but he insisted. She looked over each dress carefully, they were all beautiful. There were reds, blues, greens, and even a black dress in the mix. She tried them all on and settled for a baby blue with sparkles on it. She went to get ready and then head downstairs.She showered and curled her hair. She did her makeup minimally. She then went out to her bedroom to put on the dress she had chosen, she matched it with a pair of black heels that she had. She put on her necklace that Alexander had given her last year. Once she was satisfied with her appearance, she left her room and went downstairs. As she reached the bottom step, she heard music coming from the ball room. It had been about six months since Symphony’s birthday. Gavin had made sure to train with her every afternoon and she was getting really good. They doctor had given her all clear to resume all her normal activities and was pleased that everything had healed properly. Symphony had decided to finish off the remainder of her school time at home, this way she could not only keep up with her schoolwork but also train daily. Alexander had agreed with her decision. Things had returned to normal around the house. There had been no looming threats that anyone had detected. Fiona had managed to bite her tongue off during one of Alexanders interrogations, so she was of no use anymore, but he still kept her in the dungeons as a precaution. He still wasn’t convinced about her story, but Damion was still digging.Symphony had started showing more of her abilities that her wolf possessed. While waiting for Damion to find out what he knew about Lycans, and mates Alexander was still trying to avoid Symphony. She knew something was up though when she walked into the kitchen and he was sitting at the table and he abruptly got up and walked away. She tried talking to Gavin about it but he didn’t seem to notice anything different about Alexander’s behavior. She thought she was losing her mind. She kept up with her studies and her training trying to focus on anything to keep her mind busy. After training that afternoon, she had a thought to catch Alexander in his office and ask him what his problem was. She went inside and looked for him in the usual spots that he would be and when he wasn’t there she knew he was in his office.She would have normally knocked and waited to be let in but this couldn’t wait and she didn’t want to give him the chance to ignore her. When Damion finally got ahold of Alexander three days later, he had some peculiar news for him. From what he had found out there has only been one other case of a Lycan having a mate and that was Centuries ago. From what he gathered this Lycan had wanted ultimate power and the only way her could get that power was by killing a very special wolf, like Symphony, but the moon goddess couldn’t let that wolf line die out so she made them mates so she would be protected. They weren’t very in tune with the idea at the beginning but eventually made it work for the sake of their people because if they had rejected each other the moon goddess swore it would be the end of both of their species. It seemed that history was repeating itself. Alexander took little comfort in this fact. Symphony had told him once that the moon goddess visited her while she was held captive, but she didn’t say anything about their species ending if they rejected each other.Damion had also said that the Lycan had d

It had been a little over a week since Alexander told Symphony what he had found out about them being mates. He barely saw her or heard anything from her. She was avoiding him. He knew she was upset about the whole thing, and he didn’t blame her. He would find out how she was doing by asking Gavin after their training sessions. Gavin told him that she must be pissed because over the course of the week her punches had been getting harder and he had to literally yell at her to get her to stop training when their time was up. Alexander had Damion looking for a way around the rejection while he investigated it from his end. There had to be some way around them dying if they rejected each other. Although the more he looked and found nothing the more frustrated he became. He just wanted Symphony to at least talk to him again. Another week had passed, and the day of Symphony’s eighteenth birthday was fast approaching. Alexander was hoping to find some answers for her before her birth

The day of Symphony’s birthday was finally here. She couldn’t believe that she was finally eighteen. She wasn’t expecting much in the way of a party because of everything that had been going on. She got up, took a shower, got dressed in leggings and a baggy shirt, and went downstairs to fix herself something to eat before she started on her daily schoolwork.She heard a few vehicles pull up the drive but didn’t think anything of it, she figured Alexander had meetings today. As she grabbed her food and headed back upstairs, she caught a glimpse of Alexander as he was heading out of his office. She didn’t really know what to say to him, so she hurried back upstairs before he saw her. A few days later Symphony was training with Gavin and the uneasy feeling came back. It had distracted her enough that Gavin was able to perform a sneak attack on her and she missed it and hit the ground hard. When she got up, she scanned the area and didn’t see anything.Gavin noticed her distraction and questioned her about it. She told him about the uneasy feeling that she was getting again, and he told her to go see Alexander and tell him. He also told her that they were done with training for the day as he was going to go on a run to check the perimeter.She headed inside and was met with the smell of peppermint.
