~Cana’s POV:“Indigestion?” I asked Doctor Maria based on what she had just told me. The Doctor nodded her head, but her attention remained on the bruise on my ankle. “Zane has always been a powerful Alpha since birth, unfortunately, his body couldn’t handle the amount of pheromone, hence the indigestion.” She examined the bruise once more and frowned, but I was too worried by what I had just heard to pay attention to whether her frowning was a bad or good thing. Zane had pheromone indigestion? For many people, it was a sign of showing the Alpha was strong, but I saw this as a means of silent suffering. Not only would the alpha constantly fall sick because his body can’t control the amount of pheromones it produces, but they also have a hard time shifting into their wolf form, because of the overflow.Pheromones were essential for an Alpha to shift, and the more a person produced, the easier shifting became. The only solution was for Zane to constantly take suppressants, and a lo

~Cana’s POV:Zane’s kiss was hungry and greedy, engulfing me like a fire burning out of control. It was a kiss that took the breath away from my lungs, caused my brain to short-circuit, and had the heat pooling in my stomach spread out.I had never been kissed so passionately, or even been kissed like this before. The sensation was intoxicating and I couldn’t bring myself to stop it.When his tongue brushed against the seam of my lips, I was hesitant, but I couldn’t deny him, coupled with the compelling scent of his pheromones, it was hard not to get swallowed by him. The kiss lasted only a few seconds before it was broken, and Zane pulled back, a string of saliva connecting our lips, but before it could break, he leaned forward, licking my lips and making me shudder. He pulled back, his gaze fixed on mine.I wasn’t sure what to make of his actions, but the fact that the kiss had taken my breath away was enough to let me know that he wasn’t planning on letting me go.“Cana,” His voic

~Cana’s POV:The bed was empty when I woke. Zane was nowhere to be seen and the scent of his pheromones had reduced, dwindling to its normal state.I stretched and was about to get up when the door was pulled open, and Leah came walking in, a tray in her hands and a worried expression on her face.“Lady Cana, are you okay?” She rushed to ask, placing the tray on the nightstand.I didn’t say anything, confused by her actions, but scrambled into a sitting position, hoping she didn’t think bad about seeing me lying in Zane’s bed. “Why wouldn’t I be okay?” I managed to ask once I had sat up. Leah hesitated and bit her lower lip, a habit I had noticed she had whenever she was nervous.“Well,” She started, wringing her hands together. “I-I don’t know, the Alpha…he, didn’t do anything to you, did he?”The confusion I felt slowly melted away and I smiled, silently appreciating her care and worry for me. “No, Leah, he didn’t.” I beckoned her over and when she was close enough, asked. “So yo

~Cana’s POV: I turned around to see Callahan, Sheila, and Lionel standing behind me. The first two had their hands folded, a glare present on their faces as they stared at the scene before them, While Lionel, well, his expression, for once, was unreadable. But I was damn sure, with Cassandra’s convincing act, looking the most pitiful and terrified I had ever seen her, he was buying it. “What do you think you’re doing, Cana?” Callahan repeated, his voice dripping with venom. “Do you think just because the Alpha has taken pity on you, you can bully members of this pack?” Saying this, he gestured for Sheila to go to Cassandra. She did so, violently brushing shoulders with me as she walked past. She knelt beside Cassandra, taking her hands in her as she questioned. “Are you okay? What happened?” Her voice sounded so tender that I would have mistaken her for a good person if she hadn’t picked on me several times in the past few days. Cassandra, being the good actress I only jus

~Cana’s POV:Less than an hour later, Lionel took the initiative to see to it that I was walked back and left within the comfort of my room. “Callahan can be a little…unpredictable at times,” He explained, grimacing at just the thought of the older wolf. It was surprising how he and Zane thought so differently about Callahan, though; I chuck that up to being the fact that Callahan was related by blood to Zane, while in Lionel’s case, I assumed him to be just a fellow pack member. “Stay in your room for a little while, at least until Zane returns and they’re completely powerless.”“And how long will that be?” I asked and watched Lionel glance at his watch. He frowned. “In the next four hours or so.”The news had me frowning along. Four hours of staying in my room didn’t seem all that pleasurable. But then, if I thought hard about it, a similar situation had once happened to me when I was in the Orleans pack. My father…Derek had been having visitors over, other high-ranking Alpha’s

~Zane’s POV: I approached Cana’s room with speed, the news Lionel had shared with me ringing in my head. She had magic, I mused, a smile pulling on my lips. I had been right. As usual, I had been right. My moment of jubilation was broken by the sound of Cana’s scream and a loud thud coming from her room. At once, I charged at the door, pushing it open without thoughts of even knocking. “Cana? Are you alright-?” The question died on my lips as I found her on the floor, leg held up by her bed and book planted flat against her face. What…what was going on? Cana, who seemed to have heard me, turned and pulled the book away, revealing a red mark on her face. “Oh, you’re back.” She said, sitting up and grinning at me as if nothing had happened. I, however, was not convinced. “Are you alright? What are you doing on the floor?” She blushed and scratched the back of her neck, looking shy. “Well, I was reading a book and…then…well, I lost concentration and fell.” She giggled nerv

~Cana’s POV:Sheila, along with Callahan, had both been sent off to a different branch of the pack house and Cassandra had been punished severely before being banished from the pack. Or so I heard. The whole thing had happened less than twenty-four hours after the altercations between us four, and when I stepped out the next morning, neither of them was anywhere to be seen. “Sheila’s been sent away,” Talia was gracious enough to tell me when I visited Davis in the medical wing. She then went on to tell me how Zane had given that as their punishment and even apologized for not being around to stop the entire thing.I didn’t know what to make of their punishment, and I wasn’t even sure I wanted to know the details of the other’s punishment, so I didn’t bother questioning any further.Dismissing Talia’s unnecessary worry and apology, I chose to focus on Davis, whose last day in the medical wing it was. “Feeling better?” I asked, watching as the kid who was playing with his usual Leg

~Zane’s POV:Although Cana had been the one to suggest it, she looked visibly dazed the moment I kissed her. I enjoyed the feeling of her lips against mine, the smell of her scent, the taste of her tongue, and the sensation of her body against mine. All of it.Everything.It felt like heaven, especially because my pheromones had gone crazy, and I hadn’t gotten my hands on her since the night before.I needed some sort of relief, and I was going to take advantage of Cana’s kindness and offer, as bad of a person as it made me sound. After what felt like an eternity, I pulled back and looked into her eyes; they were glazed over, hazed, and half-lidded.Her lips were slightly parted, and blush was dusting her cheeks, but as I stared into her eyes, her gaze sharpened, almost as if she was now becoming aware of what had happened. How cute, I thought, smiling ever so slightly as my lips however dangerously close to hers. I was tempted to steal yet another kiss but knew better than to abu

~Ivy’s POV:“You were banished?” I nearly shrieked at the news I was hearing from Cassandra. Over the phone, she sounded upset and even a little scared, but it wasn’t just her; I, too, was equally upset.“Yes, the Alpha, he…he gave me an option, to choose between a banishment or…”“I don’t care what he gave you,” I cut in, pacing my room like a relentless animal. “How could you have gotten yourself banished so quickly? Do you know the things I had to pull to get you a place in there?”The more I spoke, the angrier I got. “One job, I gave you one job and you foolishly ruined it!”“I-I’m sorry,” She stammered. “B-but it wasn’t my fault, there was-““Enough!” I barked.I could hear the way her breath hitched, but I couldn’t care less. I was furious. My one chance at making Cana suffer had just been thrown out the window by some incompetent fool.“If I have to hear your useless excuses one more time, I’ll fly over to where you are and deal with you myself. And trust me, when I’m done,

~Cana’s POV:Two days. It had been two days since I’d started…lending Zane a hand.So far, Zane had been more…considerate, a bit gentler than his usual self.I wasn’t sure if it was because of the whole arrangement, but he seemed different, like…like he was trying to make the most out of the short amount of time we had before the pills arrived.I hadn’t gotten many answers regarding the whole hybrid business or the shadow griffins, but I knew, eventually, I would.Currently, I wanted to put all that behind me and focus on the training I had begged Zane to do with me. We stood in his training room as usual, he was in front of me, examining my stance and nodding, seemingly pleased by what he saw.“Keep your arms up,” He instructed and I did as he said, keeping my arms up. “Now, let’s start. Remember, keep your arm up.”I nodded and waited for him to make a move. He did. He swung his leg, aiming for a sidekick, but I managed to block it in time. However, I didn’t expect his other leg, a
