Why the hell was fate being so cruel to me? I looked at the man Lisa kept calling my mate, wondering how I was supposed to get over him if I kept running into him everywhere.“You barely got back and you're already getting into trouble. What am I gonna do with you?”William walked over and sat beside me. He only had a pair of shorts on, which made me quickly look away, embarrassed by how fast my heart started racing just from being near him. As soon as his hand touched my back, brushing my fur, I started growling at him. I didn’t want any more contact with this idiot!“It’s dangerous to be out here alone at this hour. Don’t do that again, got it?” He sounded dead serious. I had half a mind to bite his damn hand, the one that wouldn’t stop petting me. “Come on. I’ll walk you back.”I wanted to scream at this idiot that I could get back just fine on my own and didn’t need him for anything. But of course, my growling didn’t exactly get the point across. On the contrary, he shifted into hi

When I got home, I was completely wiped out. I tossed my backpack onto the desk and sat down on my bed, thinking a quick nap wouldn’t hurt. I had just started taking off my uniform when my phone started ringing. “Dumbass Heir” lit up my screen, and my heart instantly jumped with anxiety.“Hey. You free?”“Hi! Yeah, I am!” I stammered a little. It still felt unreal that we were actually dating now—and that he was being nice to me.“You home? I’m coming to get you.” Coming to get me? He wanted to see me? I felt butterflies in my stomach and bit my lower lip, trying to keep my excitement in check. “And tell your grandma you’ll be having dinner out.”“Dinner?” He was taking me to dinner? I thought we were keeping things low-key. “Where are we going?”“To my place. Caroline’s been missing you, so my dad asked me to pick you up and said you should have dinner with us this time. Caroline’s even in the kitchen learning how to make sweets—she wanted to cook something for you.”“Uh…” So this wa

William didn’t show up again that day, nor did he have dinner with us. The Alpha ended up ordering one of his guards to take me home after the meal. I didn’t waste time thinking about what the idiot heir was up to—I was way too satisfied with how I’d managed to hold my own with the Alpha. As for Caroline’s lessons, we agreed they’d take place twice a week, on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons. I gathered the exercise notebooks, workbooks, and beginner music books with sheet music before heading over to the Alpha’s house the next day. Caroline wasn’t exactly quick with theory, but she had an incredible knack for the practical side, and that quickly became clear as the weeks went by.It was Saturday night. I’d just left the Alpha’s house when a black car pulled up next to me on the street. The window rolled down, and a man’s voice called out from inside.“Miss me?” William asked shamelessly.I ignored him completely and kept walking, pretending he wasn’t even there. He quickly got out of

Exactly three days had passed since I last saw him. Lisa’s heart was finally starting to calm down again. It was a Sunday morning, and all I wanted was to finish a song I’d been working on for the past few weeks. I strummed Preciosa, a persistent melody stuck in my head, but the words just wouldn’t come.I decided it was time to be alone for a few hours, to try and reconnect with myself. Leaving Preciosa behind, I walked into the forest and started running in my human form, completely shutting out all thoughts and feelings—including Lisa’s voice. I trained with her every night at dawn, but her constant longing for our mate had been draining my energy and killing my appetite.“I can’t believe this thing’s still here—and untouched,” I said, circling the tent I’d set up near the waterfall. There was no sign it had been used since. I was drenched in sweat after the long run. My eyes locked onto the waterfall, completely mesmerized by the view. It was the first time I’d come here during th

It hadn’t been easy to focus on studying, and I couldn’t concentrate on the classes I had to teach last week either. I’d spent three days in a row talking to the mysterious ghost, and I already missed being there. It was wildly irrational, but being at the waterfall had somehow become the best part of my day—the moment I looked forward to the most.“Aunt Lisa, is this right?” It was Tuesday’s class. Caroline tugged gently at the hem of my shirt, trying to get my attention.“You’re off on the timing, sweetheart,” I replied patiently.“You seem different. You were like this last class too.”“Like what?” I asked, puzzled.“Smiley! You’re smiling a lot.” I paused for a few seconds and realized she was right—I was smiling. I wouldn’t have noticed if she hadn’t pointed it out.“It’s like the music’s just flowing through my head, like a waterfall,” I said. Since the first time I interacted with Mr. Ghost, I’d written two brand-new songs from scratch and finished four others I’d left incomple
