Lyra’s pov The cool night air brushed against my skin as I stood looking out over the darkened lands below. Stars sparkled off in the distance, distant lanterns of the night. A silver moon made its ascent into the night casting hidden darknesses in every hidden place and corner. Laughter was bellowing from inside, and thumping music echoed, but it was quiet here. Resting my arms on the stone balcony, I pushed down the urge of doubt that had been nipping at a piece of my heart. Was it a mistake for me to come here? Amongst this lycan’s den, could I even belong? My finger followed the trail of the railing as I breathed out, feeling like everything was just too much. The ball, these people, their standards. I just didn’t feel like I belonged here. “You look troubled.” The voice made me jump I turned to see who it was. I saw a tall man standing in the dark of the balcony and now I was wondering how long he had been standing there. He then stepped into the light and I saw his fac

Lyra’s povI was about to reply when another voice broke through the tension in the atmosphere.“Sanchez.” I turned to see Greg’s uncle step forward and it was like a fog had lifted. The man was huge, seriously tall and seriously broad with a presence of dominance that made even the most arrogant Alpha take a step back.“Insulting the Luna? Do you know how dangerous that is?” Sanchez’s eyes had grown even darker.Julius sneered but did not step backwards. “Just talking.”“Talking, is it? Because from where I stand, it sounds more like disrespect.”Victor scoffed. “You can’t expect us to bow to a weakling. She’s not fit to rule.”Sanchez let out a low humorless chuckle. “I take it then you’re prepared to have your ties to the Lycan King broken?” Julius stiffened. “What?”Sanchez’s smirk turned deadly. “If you don’t claim Lyra as your Luna, then you don’t claim Greg as your King. And if you don’t claim your King, then you sure as hell do not deserve his protection or his fucking favour

Lyra’s povI walked through the pack territory with Helga by my side, the sun shining down on me and the sounds of nature filling my ears. The pack members were all going about their business, a few stopped to give me a wave of recognition or even stop to congratulate me-it had been nearly a full day since Greg announced our bonding ceremony- but as always there were those who loved nothing more than to throw insults at me.“Wolffless-wolf.” A snide voice sneered as I passed by them. “What’s she doing here? This isn’t her place.”I held back my anger from doing anything stupid. It was no use. They were within their rights to insult me. It was because of me the wedding had happened anyway.I smiled and took it in.Helga noticed and she tried to be a voice of reason to me as I nodded and took it in.“Lyra don’t listen to them,” She spoke calmly but firmly. “Even I am a wolf that can transform and I still get insulted for it. Ignore them. People like to cause trouble.”She wasn’t wrong.

Lyra’s povSanchez gave me a long, hard look. “And what about the rest of the pack? Are you going to hide this from them?”“Anyone knows about this and I’m done. I’m dead. So are the twins.”“This is harder than I thought,“ he sighed. “You’re walking on dangerous ground, Lyra.”I knew it already.I had known it right from the beginning, but it wasn’t like I had any other choice.“Please… don’t say anything. Please.”“I’ll always try to look out for you and Greg. You’re family now. But you shouldn’t be scared of me. “The Lycan pack,” I whispered.Sanchez nodded. “If they even suspect something, they’ll act before Greg can stop them.”I wasn’t going to let that happen he came closer to me and I flinched. He then did the most surprising thing I hadn’t expected from him.He placed a hand on my shoulder.“Congratulations,” he said quietly.I cleaned the tears that were rushing down my eyes. “Thank you.”Sanchez nodded, then started to walk away. But before he left through the door, he tur

Lyra’s povI didn’t doubt for a second that if he saw them to be a threat, he would just wipe them out. Literally. Greg would do his best to try and protect me, but what if it wasn’t enough?I couldn’t take that risk.I took a deep breath. I had to move fast. The next couple of days, I kept acting normal.I smiled when I had to. I went to the meals. I let Greg kiss my forehead and hold my hand in public. But every minute, I was plotting.I started taking small things from my chambers—nothing too noticeable.A dagger, Jerked meat, A flask of water, A cloak. And I was hiding them somewhere in the forest from time to time.If anyone noticed, they didn’t say anything As I was the queen and could do whatever I wanted.Helga the maid gave me a scolding look one morning as I slipped a small loaf of bread into my dress.“Are you sneaking food, Luna?” she said with an unhappy face.I laughed a little too hard. "Since I’m pregnant, I’m getting more hungry these days.”She scoffed. “You are the
