101 The Compulsion

Kai May’s recounting of those events had left me angry and bitter, and now, that anger was bleeding into the room. These men wanted to cling to old fears and twisted truths, but I wasn’t going to let them use those lies to justify another injustice. If they wanted to push the matter, they’d have to go through me—and they all knew what that would mean. “Kevin broke a rule. Had he followed the law, that menace wouldn’t have been unleashed on him and his family. It’s Kevin’s fault,” Linus said sharply, his tone dismissive. His words barely had a moment to settle before Randy growled, the sound low and menacing. “This is a very stupid and time-wasting meeting,” Randy said, his voice cutting through the tension like a blade. “I support Malachi on this one. This woman isn’t a direct descendant. She’s his people, and he has the right to decide what to do with her. This relentless hunting of Moonchild descendants is nothing but cruelty.” He leaned forward, his expression dark, his passi

102 Still In The North

KaiDarius and I finally left the meeting, our footsteps echoing down the cold marble hallway as we made our way back to our room in the hotel. The air between us was thick with unspoken tension, our minds still turning over the chaos we had just witnessed.Randy’s behaviour had spoken louder than words, raising more questions than answers.I was angry—no, furious. Not just at the topics of discussion, but at the clear collusion before the so-called "emergency" meeting was even called. The nine families had already convened separately, whispering their agreements and scheming behind our backs. It was calculated, manipulative, and worst of all, cowardly.Had they possessed the strength, they would have aligned against us outright, but they lacked the spine, the sheer force of will. That was precisely why their families had lost their hold on their territories in the first place.Darius finally broke the silence. His voice was steady, but I could hear the unease beneath it."Do you thin

103 A Need To Act

RandyI paced my room, my thoughts a storm I couldn’t contain. Jacob sat nearby, watching me like a hawk, his expression unreadable but his presence heavy with concern. It was as if he expected me to lose control—to unravel completely. Maybe he wasn’t wrong. Because how could I stay calm after seeing those pictures? The images burned behind my eyes, refusing to fade, their implications stark and undeniable."Randy, you do not seem stable," Jacob finally said, his voice measured, careful. "Malachi noticed your unease at the meeting. You need to tone it down."Tone it down? He had to be joking.I stopped mid-stride and turned to face him, my pulse hammering against my skull. "Did you see those photos?"Jacob nodded, exhaling slowly. "They were displayed for the betas, clear as day. I won’t lie to you—I was worried myself."A sharp silence fell between us. My jaw clenched. At least I wasn’t the only one shaken."We need to investigate that thing," I said, my voice low, firm. "Check out t

104 Midnight Meeting

Kai A few hours later, just as exhaustion finally started to drag me under, a knock at the door shattered the silence. I blinked, groggy but instantly on edge. Midnight. Who the hell would come knocking at this hour? This wasn’t my territory. That meant I had to be on full alert. Instinct kicked in, and I reached out through the pack link for Darius—but there was nothing. He was deep asleep. No backup. Pushing off the bed, I moved cautiously toward the door, ready to demand an identity when a familiar voice came through. "It's me, Malachi." Draco. "I’d be a fool to attack you in my own territory. I just want to talk. And since you’ve chosen to stay as far from the pack house as possible, this was the only time I could sneak away to meet you." I let out a slow breath, my muscles untensing just slightly. Draco wasn’t an idiot. If he wanted to ambush me, he wouldn’t do it like this. Still, I wasn’t about to let my guard down completely. I unlocked the door and pull

105 Randy’s Past

Kai "What demons?" I asked, my voice steady, but my mind already bracing for the answer.Draco exhaled, tilting his head slightly as if considering how much to say. Then, with a wry chuckle, he leaned forward, resting his forearms on his knees."His parents had a disastrous marriage," he began. "His mother—Lois Olsen—cheated constantly, and she didn’t even try to hide it. My mother used to talk about them a lot, especially after parties or conferences where their fights would be the evening’s entertainment."I frowned, already sensing this story wasn’t going to end well."Lois never wanted to mate with William," Draco continued. "Her father forced the bond because William was next in line for the regional Alpha position in the Olsen family. Classic case of social climbing. But she never hid her disdain for him—never even pretended to be loyal. She took lovers freely, humiliating both her husband and her son in the process."A tense silence settled between us before Draco sighed and s

106 What To Do

Kai Draco leaned forward, a knowing smile playing on his lips. He wasn’t done talking. "You still doubt their motives? Do you think they wouldn’t be desperate enough to side with the enemy? Say that of the Westwoods." His voice was low, edged with amusement. "Didn’t they drag you before the council recently? Tell that to all those power-hungry, lazy bastards at the meeting. You should know by now—some people would rather destroy what they can’t have than let someone else keep it." I exhaled sharply, unwilling to admit that he had a point. I’d never thought of it that way before, but the truth in his words was undeniable. Draco tilted his head, watching me closely. "By the way… you’re sure this May woman doesn’t know anything that could lead us to the Moonchild?" I didn’t hesitate. "She doesn’t." I wasn’t going to expose May to Draco. He was too dangerous. No matter how friendly he tried to seem, I knew what he was—a man who collected information like weapons, wielding them only

107 A Talk With Draco 1

RandyJacob took my words to heart. He knew there was no room for hesitation—we were leaving at dawn.Every second spent in the North felt like a wasted breath, a delay I couldn’t afford. Too much lay ahead, too little time to get it all done.As we made our way out of the building, a figure moved toward us with urgent strides. Draco’s Beta, Marcus. My guard went up immediately. Given the Stephensons' history—their twisted attempt to sell Adasha out to Draco—I had every reason to be wary. What if Jason had already taken their offer to him? The mere thought sent fire coursing through my veins, but I forced my expression to remain unreadable."Alpha Olsen," Marcus greeted, his tone respectful, but I only gave him a curt nod. I wasn’t in the mood for formalities, and I certainly wasn’t going to pretend otherwise."Apologies for stopping you, Alpha," Marcus continued, clearly noting my impatience."I can see you're in a hurry, but Alpha Bouras requests a moment of your time before you lea

108 A Talk With Draco 2

RandyDraco’s words unsettled me, and I could tell he wasn’t just speculating—he knew something, or at the very least, he had a gut feeling I couldn’t afford to ignore. The suggestion raised in the meeting had been absurd, and I was relieved when it was struck down. But now, hearing him speak with such certainty, a sliver of doubt crept in.I didn’t want to appear too concerned, so I kept my tone light. "They were just testing their luck," I said, leaning back.Draco exhaled sharply and shook his head."On the contrary, Randy. Do you really think they made that proposal hoping we'd agree? No. They’re planning something as we speak."I frowned, sitting forward. "So what do you propose?"Draco sighed, rubbing a hand over his face. He wasn’t enjoying this conversation any more than I was. "You already know what I’m going to say," he muttered.I waited, watching him. Finally, he spoke. "We’ve never seen eye to eye, and we both prefer to keep to ourselves. But this isn’t about preference a

109 A Talk With Draco 3

Randy Draco studied me, searching for a reaction, for something to tell that I had more to hide. But I gave him nothing. I saw the exact moment when he realized he wasn’t going to get under my skin and silently conceded. I decided to press forward. "That’s all I have to say about Jason," I stated firmly. "What happens in my pack is my business, Draco. And I don’t take kindly to you snooping around in it. I doubt you’d appreciate me digging into the affairs of the North, would you?" Draco exhaled, raising his hands in a slow, placating gesture. "He reached out to me, Randy. I didn’t go looking for him." His voice was even, but there was something insistent in his tone. "All I’m saying is we should question your in-laws and see what they know. It would put us ahead of Abraham and the others. We need to secure ourselves before they do." I chuckled, low and deliberate. The laugh wasn’t genuine—it was calculated, meant to throw him off, to make him second-guess his angle. "Only a fo

110 Rushing Home To You

Kai The drive back to the East was long, stretching endlessly before me. I should have felt relief at returning home, at finally being able to put my territories in order—but instead, my mind was a battlefield. I needed to be on high alert. The families were meeting behind our backs, conspiring in whispers, and I had to uncover the truth before it was too late. Was it the Westwood child orchestrating this? Or was it James? Logic pointed to the former. James had never given cause for alarm in all these years. If it were him, we would have seen signs long ago. According to May’s account, if this ability—the power of compulsion—had existed for generations, we should have heard whispers of massacres long before I was even born. Yet, the first real event had only happened recently. That could mean only one thing. The perpetrator was either my age or younger—someone who had only just come into their power or someone who had been pushed to their limits, provoked like Michelle had been
