Blake's POV"That's not why I'm here," I said, but I wasn't even sure if that was true."Then why are you here, Blake?" Adrian demanded. "Give me one good reason why you should be anywhere near Nichole right now."I opened my mouth to answer, but I couldn't find the words. Why was I here? What did I really hope to accomplish by coming to see her?"Gentlemen," the doctor who had been walking toward us interrupted, "I'm going to have to ask you to keep your voices down. This is a hospital, not a boxing ring.""Sorry, doc," Adrian said, but his eyes never left my face. "This gentleman was just leaving.""I wasn't—" I started to say."Yes, you were," Adrian cut me off. "Because if you don't leave right now, I'm going to call security and have you thrown out.""You can't do that," I said, my own anger starting to rise. "I have just as much right to be here as you do.""No, you don't," Adrian said firmly. "You lost any rights concerning Nichole the day you decided to destroy her life for yo

Nichole's POVThe sight of him, standing there looking concerned and caring, made me feel sick. This was the same man who had married me as part of a sick game. The same man who had made me believe he loved me while he was planning to destroy my career."I know I messed up," Blake said, and his words made me even angrier."Messed up?" I repeated, my voice getting higher. "You call destroying my life a mess up? You call marrying me as part of some sick game a mess up?"Tears were streaming down my face now, but I didn't care. I wanted him to see what his "mess up" had done to me."You made me believe you loved me!" I continued, my voice cracking with emotion. "You made me think I had found someone who cared about me, and the whole time it was just a lie! It was all just a game to you and that woman!"I remembered how happy I had been when we first started dating. How I had thought I had finally found someone who saw past my career and loved me for who I really was. How he had boldly wa

Lydia's POVThe flight back felt like the longest few hours of my life. I kept reading and rereading that text message, getting angrier every time. How dare Blake go see her without telling me? How dare he visit the woman whose life we had destroyed together? Did he feel guilty? Did he miss her? Was he having second thoughts about what we had done?By the time I landed, I was furious. I went straight from the airport to Blake's office building. I didn't care that I looked like I had just gotten off a plane. I didn't care that I was still wearing yesterday's makeup and clothes. I needed to confront him right now.I stormed into his office building, past the receptionist who tried to tell me he was in a meeting. I didn't care. I marched straight to his office and threw open the door.Blake was sitting at his desk, looking at some papers. He looked up when I barged in, and I could see the guilt written all over his face."Lydia?" he said, standing up quickly. "What are you doing here? I

Nichole's POVI was sitting in my living room, finally back home from the hospital. The doctors had cleared me to leave this morning, but I still felt weak. My ribs ached when I moved too quickly, and there was a constant headache that the pain medication barely touched.Adrian was in the kitchen making tea, insisting I needed to stay hydrated. He had barely left my side since the rescue, sleeping on my couch because he was worried Vincent might come back. I kept telling him Vincent was probably halfway across the country by now, but Adrian wouldn't listen.I had a book open in my lap, but I hadn't read a single page. My mind kept drifting back to yesterday at the hospital. The way Blake had looked at me. The things I had screamed at him. Part of me felt satisfied that I had finally told him exactly how I felt, but another part of me felt drained from reliving all that pain. The bruises on my face were starting to fade, but I could still feel Vincent's hands around my throat when I th

Adrian's POVI watched Nichole from the kitchen doorway, holding two cups of tea that had gone cold while I listened to her phone conversation. Her hands were shaking as she stared at her phone, and I could see her trying to pull herself together before I came back into the room. She was putting on a brave front, the way she always did when something bothered her more than she wanted to admit. But I could see right through it. The way her jaw was clenched, the way she was gripping her phone a little too tightly, the way her breathing was still uneven.Blake's call had gotten to her more than she wanted to let on.I set the tea cups down and sat beside her, close enough to offer comfort but not so close that she would feel crowded. I had learned to read Nichole's moods pretty well over the past few months, and right now she needed space to think but also needed to know I was there."That was Blake, wasn't it?" I asked gently. She nodded, and I felt anger rise in my chest. How dare he c
