LUCIAN BLACKTHORN It's been over thirty minutes now. I was getting restless, and anxious, an emotion I had never experienced for years now. My fear only intensified as one more contender lit up their torch in the cave, and the Triss portal opened up for her, leading her out of the forest.I could feel the tension in my bones as I stared at the miniature version of the entire forest within the Court territory. Triss had created it with magic and through it, we could track every contender and keep watch of the competition since we couldn't livestream the Court territory. It would have been better that way but for obvious reasons, the happenings within the Court territory should be kept private. It was the center of the Supreme Court. And on the South and North borders were the fortresses of the Supreme witches. That place was ancient, it had been in existence even before my time and was a living breathing work of magic that was why it should be kept private, so I couldn't exactly under

AYLA BAILORE Lying to the Alpha King was dangerous. It was stupid and the worst mistake ever. But none of that mattered right now, not when my body was so paralyzed with shock and tears filled my eyes as I watched Lucian fight off the rogues. A fear like no other gripped my chest at the thought of something bad happening to him. With another swipe of the King's wolf claw, one of the rogue wolves fell to the ground, just as a few wolves hurried to where we were, and without hesitating, Lucian's wolf tore apart the other wolf, detaching its head from its body, bathing the air and the trees in blood.Immediately the other wolves shifted back to their human form and so did Lucian who took the shorts that were passed to him by one of his warriors.Luckily, I found the strength to get up from the ground, pinning myself to a tree, hoping with all my might I could just vanish, but that was impossible, not with Lucian's dark gaze on me.“Spread out, make a clean sweep of the entire borders.

AYLA BAILORE My heart was beating fast and hard in my chest, and for a split second I was confused, I didn't know what to do. This crystal stone right here could be the solution to all my problems. With it, I could strike a deal with Arnold to get out of the Selection contest, and I could get Emily back and we'd disappear, travel maybe West,, and keep a low profile for the rest of our lives. The thought of that alone was too tempting.I dropped the lamp on the closest table, taking careful strides closer to the glass stand holding the crystal stone. The more I stepped closer, the more I was hit with its ethereal glow. It was beautiful. Almost spellbinding as though it was calling out to me, begging me to reach for it. I felt like I was being compelled, all I wanted to do was feel it in my hands.I lifted my finger, reaching out to it, its glow almost blinding and I could feel its warmth already, but just as I tried to touch it, I realized it was impossible.I tried again, and my hand

LUCIAN BLACKTHORN I sighed in frustration, pulling away from Ayla, and keeping enough distance between us, but that alone wasn't enough to get the smell of her delicate blend of vanilla and jasmine with a hint of lemony freshness out of my system. This was torture, and worse, she didn't even feel the bond because she didn't have a wolf. It scared me to think about the possibility that she may never get her wolf, and never realize we were fated for each other. I had asked Triss to look into Ayla's condition and I have yet to get feedback. But until we figured out what was wrong with her wolf, I had to keep her safe and well. I almost lost it a few days ago when she was attacked in my own territory. Ayla could have lost her life if I hadn't gotten to her at the precise moment. She could have been dead. This wasn't the first time unidentified wolves crossed into my territory. They smelled like eastern rogues but belonged to a pack. Someone was controlling them, and there can be only o

AYLA BAILOREConsciousness tugged at me, but I was too tired to get up. I heard a rustling sound to my left. Someone was here. I opened my eyes, breathing deeply. I was in bed, with familiar white satin sheets in my large room in the royal mansion. For a second my body felt like it'd been run over by a car, then it all came rushing to me. The challenge. Lara being unconscious and then the magical horse.I turned left and found Lucian leaning against the wall close to the window. He wore his usual cold, expressionless mask, just watching me. “How are you feeling?”“Okay, though my head hurts like hell,” I tried to get up when I felt something on my forehead. A stone-like crystal. I was about to ask what it was when I noticed I was wearing a thin black lace slip. “Who changed me?”Lucian stepped forward, brows raised, expression dark but unreadable. “You almost died, and that is the first thing you ask about?” I rose up, leaning against the headrest, inhaling his heady winter forest s
