Chapter 11 - Groundless Rumours

--Alaric POV--This woman was unlike any whom I had ever had the luxury of meeting before. Looking like that, smelling like that, and even sounding like that; She was the epitome of perfection, and my intrigue had been spiked. With the photography having been finished, we made our way inside the stadium, the grand decor sparkling, and people already mingling around, most of whom I recognised since they were all fellow actors, entertainers, or singers."My seat must be over there... I'll see you later." Her voice whispered into my ear as she pointed near the front of the stadium, and I nodded, letting her go as she walked away, my eyes unmoving from her as she greeted some people, surprising them with her kindness, and before long I watched as they all quickly relaxed, falling in love with her personality."Come on, our seats are over there," I didn't need to turn to see who it was that spoke, not that I had a chance to do anyways since she pushed me forward into step."Sandra, you're

Chapter 12 - The First Apology

--Ines POV--"Ines!" The sound of running feet approaching me made me pause in my steps as I turned to look at the owner of the familiar voice, a polite smile appearing on my lips when I saw who it was.I had just finished with my live performance and was heading back to my dressing room backstage to change into something more comfortable before heading back home to where I'm certain that Malachi would be waiting for me, angry for sure."Isaiah, hello," I greeted as he came to a halt in front of me, his eyes twinkling as a small smile played at his lips.Isaiah Ramirez was a fellow singer-songwriter. We both worked under the same company, him willingly, so we saw each other quite often. I remember the first time I saw him; I had thought he looked like a friendly person, and in my lonely world, I couldn't help but crave his friendship. Maybe that was what led me to seek comfort in his home when I needed a place to hide from Malachi, but that was when I learnt not to judge a book by its

Chapter 13 - Freedom From Pain

--Ines POV--"Not only did you completely ruin the original dress I had made for you to wear to today's show, but you went ahead and took pictures with that actor, had an interview where you couldn't stop smiling, spoke words I never told you to speak when you won that award, and even changed the lyrics of the song you performed." He muttered under his breath as he walked."You really went out of your way to become someone new today. All to anger me." "...It's not someone new." He halted in his steps, turning to look at me with a look that told me to be careful with my next words, but since I started, I may as well finish."This is who I am, it's not a new person. I'm the same person I've been for the past hundreds of years, you just never got to see it because you made yourself an enemy. And it wasn't for you; Everything I did today, it was all for me.""Oh, yeah?" His eyes twitched as he scoffed, the veins almost popping in anger. "Of all days a sudden investment meeting could take

Chapter 14 - Dirty Rumours

--Alaric POV--She had secrets. And I wasn't one to pry. But that didn't mean that I wasn't curious, or worried. She had somehow become someone I cared for, and as soon as I heard of her pained screams, my body acted on instinct, the thoughts lagging in my mind.Ezra dropped me off home to where I caught sight of a familiar figure striding back and forth in front of the apartment complex, looking agitated as he bit his nails, muttering incoherent words under his breath while he waited for someone, that someone being me.And as I got closer to the lean figure of the man, I recognised him as the one that Ines had been running away from on the night where I met her, Maxwell his name was. He somehow looked different this time, not dressed in a suit but a simple pair of trousers and t-shirt, brown hair a dishevelled mess and stubble lining his face, and when he caught sight of me, he ran into step as I jumped, surprised, but didn't turn away from him."You! I need your help!" Was the way h

Chapter 15 - First Dates

--Alaric POV--As soon as I spoke the words I did to Malachi, I took Ines back to my penthouse where I lay her down in my bed, and opened the blinds enough so that she could see the moon if she were to wake up and look for it like last time. And after washing up and getting into my sweatpants, I got into bed beside her, making sure she was covered by the blankets before going on my iPad where I opened the latest article about her that Maxwell had been talking about in the car.Talking about Maxwell, he refused a ride from me, saying that he'd stay at that mansion today, and I willingly listened, hoping that he'd be alive tomorrow. As my eyes scanned over all the malicious comments, I spent a few hours screenshotting all of them for the future where I planned to sue them for defamation, emotional abuse, and anything else I could think of, I'd have to ask my lawyer how far I could go, but with how bad these comments were, I'm guessing I could do quite a lot of damage.Once I was done wi

Chapter 16 - The Truth Unveiled

--Alaric POV--"Oh, thank god you're finally here. If I had to spend another moment with him then I would surely have perished." Maxwell couldn't hide his joy when he caught sight of Ines and I walking onto the yacht after we decided that we wouldn't be letting Malachi ruin our day. Since he very clearly wouldn't be leaving if we asked him to, and I doubt he'd simply watch after us if we were the ones who decided to leave."You're here as well?" I didn't even try to hide the displeasure as we made our way to the back of the yacht where all the entertainment was, leaving Malachi to himself at the front of the boat. But not noticing my displeasure, Maxwell ran forward with open arms as he tried to hug me, but I quickly sidestepped him, and quickly recovering from the rejected hug, his attention turned to Ines, relief flashing over his features as he smiled at her warmly."Are you okay?" He asked her as she nodded."Thank you, Maxwell." She gratefully whispered, and his grin widened, a

Chapter 17 - A Witch's Curse

--Ines POV--Mermaids are beings that keep to themselves, we don't interfere in the businesses of any other species unless it somehow involves us, that is how its been since the beginning, and it's not something that would be changing. But every now and then, we'd get curious and travel up to the surface. With no intention of speaking to any other species, we'd simply look at the world from an unfamiliar perspective. But if we saw a drowning man or woman, we'd save them. How could we simply watch as someone was about to lose their precious gift of life? Back when pirates were more prominent in traveling over the seven seas, their beliefs often led to many women being thrown overboard, and I remember saving as many of them as I could. But on that day when I first met him, it was different than the rest. He wasn't thrown or pushed into the water; He was the first person I met that had willingly put themselves to the mercy of the Ocean. The first time I met Malachi was on a day he wishe

Chapter 18 - Fearful Eyes

--Ines POV--"Alaric!" They all screamed as he fell into the water, the dull sound of the cold Ocean hitting his body as it surrounded him, but nothing left my voice. I couldn't shout his name or reach my hand out to grab him; I could only feel as he pushed me away from him when he fell so as not to drag me down with him, even this time, he picked me over himself. And I thought, maybe, just maybe, my feelings weren't only mine. What if he felt the same? And unlike Malachi, it was true that he would love me for me and not my worth, it would be okay to tell him now. That I wasn't a Human. It's a risk that I need to decide if I should take now or not. I loved him. And whether he loves me or not, I couldn't sit back and let him go. He's my second chance, I couldn't let him leave so cruelly."Ines... Don't." Malachi whispered as he watched me slip out of my shoes, getting closer to the edge as he desperately shook his head, hands clenched as he went from whispering to shouting in a warnin

Chapter 19 - Changing of the Tides

--Alaric POV--Once the yacht docked back at the port, Ines bid me farewell before following a brooding Malachi, whom I threatened to even dare try putting another hand up against her, and whether he heeded that threat or not was left to Maxwell to deal with.I returned home with the knowledge that Humans were no longer at the top of the food chain, and I only wondered what other species were out there that weren't just myths. So far, I know that Mermaids, Sirens, and Witches were real, but what else?I was curious with the questions eating up at me, but I didn't want to overstep any boundaries by hoarding Ines with all the questions. So, after washing up, I simply lay in bed, looking up at the ceiling as I was reminded of how she was beside me the last time I was here, sleeping soundly like a baby. Pretty like a dream with chubby, kissable cheeks, soft pink lips, and raven black hair spread around her in a perfect mess.I've had girlfriends before, but they were nothing like Ines, in

Chapter 20 - The Beginning of the End

--Malachi POV--Pacing back and forth in my office, my eyes kept looking down at the ring on my pinkie finger, the crack seeming to grow larger every time I saw it, and with every time I saw it, my anger and fear would spike at the reality that I didn't want to believe. The curse was breaking. One way or another, somehow, the curse was breaking. And she was going to leave me without looking back even once. What would I do if the curse broke? I put so much into it with the belief that it's an unbreakable curse, but clearly, I was wrong. How is it breaking? How could she reclaim something that can't be reclaimed? With a tired sigh, I went to sit on my seat, looking at my computer screen where my brows furrowed at the sight of the trending searches.Ines Agua Interview. What interview? She's supposed to be at home, working on lyrics today. I said goodbye to her before I left, and Maxwell was watching over her to make sure she didn't try running away... Maxwell. I knew it. Groaning, my fi
