Gabbie POV“Are you feeling sick again, Gabbie?” Emery asked as she prepared for her night out in my room.“I’m fine, I’m just tired.”She turned around holding a red lipstick tube. “You don’t look good. Think we should see a specialist or a witch.”I giggled. “We don’t need to see a witch. I just need to sleep.”“Are you sure you don’t want me to stay with you?”“What? No, go have fun. You deserve it.” I waved her off.I would forever be grateful that Emery chose to come to the academy with me to settle in a human town. I didn’t tell her about Alex’s offer even though I knew she would be supportive. My phone rang with a blocked number. Dad, I thought.“Hey, kid!” he boomed.I smiled. I never got tired of hearing his voice. “What’s up?”“Full-moon, I wanted to know if you’re still experiencing pain.”I rubbed my middle. I didn’t feel bad yet.“I’m good Dad… so Alex is back.”“Need to run again? I know a place.”My Dad’s mind was always on the run. “I don’t know what to do, Dad. I love

2 Weeks Later.Gabbie POVI tiptoed on all four paws, trying to make it out of the dense forest. Howls and barks came from all angles. I could see my house surrounded by trees and illuminated by floodlights. It was the last day of the full moon. A lot of the local wolves were going crazy. Kade and I went out last night and the night before that, but this night, he’d gone out with his buddies for a run in the woods and made me swear not to leave the house. My mate might be an Alpha, but he was paranoid as hell. If I wanted to make it home before him, I probably shouldn’t be tiptoeing. I stood and looked around. The scent of wet dogs attacked me from all sides.I started walking home. I paused when I heard a twig snap.Oh crap.It better not be an overexcited wolf looking for a good time because I’d been spoken for, for a long time. No one was there, so I continued walking.“Shift,” the command came, and my limbs were forced to obey.I curled into a ball as fur turned to smooth flesh, f

“I’m not a Hunter, Kade. I don’t have a single kill under my belt, nor am I registered with any Hunting squad. Besides, weren’t you listening to what Dad said? He removed my Hunter’s Spear.”I spoke freely after our friends left. Emery knew I was born a hybrid, but Leiah and Tristan didn’t. Hybrids were abominations in the Pack, and hybrids like me were the lowest of the low.Our kinds never mingled. Relationships between our kinds were forbidden and rare. My parents' relationship was the exception, and it came with death and trouble.A part of me understood where Kade was coming from. When word got out about me being a Hunter, I would have a target on my head. The target would only get bigger when people learned my Father was Erik Chambers, the most notorious werewolf killer out there.“All that’s not going to matter to most people, Gabbie,” Kade said.He helped me pick up the empty beer bottles outside. The moon was beautiful, and the wind was soft. It was a nice night for a run.“A

The doctor confirmed Kade had broken his leg. The problem was we weren’t at a shifter hospital, and they were bound to notice when Kade’s burns and cuts started healing at a rate faster than the human rate. They wanted to keep him in overnight, but that couldn’t happen.Since Kade was an Alpha, he would fully recover from the broken leg with minimal pain, but it would still need time to heal. If I had broken my leg, it would have taken a month to heal, and it would have hurt like hell.“Is it true? Someone tried to kill Kade?” Leiah blasted as soon as she got off the elevator.“Volume, Leiah,” Gareth hushed. He grabbed her shoulder and led her towards the waiting area. It was a quiet day, but the nurses were wandering around, and the last thing we needed was for the human police to get involved.“How did you hear?” I asked. The only ones who were at the house were Tristan, Gareth and Emery.Leiah blinked a few times. “Holden told me.”“Holden?” He was still Kade’s right-hand man, but

Gabbie POV“I was so worried you guys wouldn’t come. Leiah got here early, but that was only because she wanted first dibs on the gowns here,” Emery rambled.I felt like each second carried by time went in slow motion. The hallway was crowded with people. Their footsteps echoed, and their breathing beat down on me.“The dresses are gorgeous, but so expensive. Good thing, Gareth told me I could get whatever I wanted on his bill! Can you believe it?” Emery went on.I tried not to look at the men and women who passed directly, but it was hard. I could hear their whispers before they even walked past us.“Omega.”“Who let the trash into the castle?”“They’re too comfortable. I thought only elites were invited to the ball?”“Some Alphas couldn’t live without their bedmates.”The comments were like blows to my face. Couldn’t they wait until we were out of earshot? We were omegas, but we still had great hearing.“Gabbie? Are you even listening?” Emery asked as we turned into the dress shop.
