Chapter 1

My husband, Caleb Thorne, only returned from wherever he was the next day. When he did, I was busy cleaning up the mess in our backyard. It was our seventh anniversary yesterday. Before things went downhill, he had once told me, "I hear people say that a marriage will fall apart after seven years, but I don't believe in such nonsense. So, we should invite all our friends and family to our seventh anniversary. That way, we can flaunt our happy marriage right in their faces."It was precisely because of those words that I eagerly prepared to celebrate our seventh anniversary. I had even started prepping three months in advance.I would drag myself home after work just to learn how to bake and mix drinks. Even though I was exhausted, I would still painstakingly learn how to master all the dishes that I wasn't familiar with.Unfortunately, the anniversary party that I had prepared oh-so earnestly had instead turned into a venue for him to flirt with his darling childhood friend, Emma

Chapter 2

Throughout our seven years of marriage, there would always be a hot meal waiting for Caleb when he came home.It didn't matter whether I was swamped with work and couldn't make it home in time, as I would still order his favorite takeout before coming home myself. This was the first time he ever came face-to-face with an empty dining table. He assumed I would hurriedly get on my feet and start whipping a meal up for him. However, I only responded dully, "Make yourself a sandwich if you're that hungry."Caleb frowned and handed me a bag."I remember your period pains can get awful, so I got you some heat pads."I tilted my head slightly and finally met his gaze. "I don't need it. Leave them to someone who does."He had no idea that Emma had posted a picture of those same heating pads on her social media. The hand in the photo, the same hand placing them on her, was wearing his ring. It was his left hand.Although Emma had deleted the photo, I was well aware that these heat pads

Caleb called me within ten minutes after the picture was posted, saying, "Ophelia, please don't misunderstand me. Mom arranged the gathering. She's my mother, so I couldn't possibly disrespect her. I—"I cut him off, replying blandly, "Alright, I understand. Is there anything else?"He started hesitantly, "You're not… mad?"I huffed in amusement and asked, "Why should I be mad?"Caleb fell silent. After a while, he said, "It's my mother's birthday this Saturday. I'll pick you up then."He immediately ended the call right after he said that. It was as if he was worried I would reject him.Caleb arrived at Blair's place on Saturday. He had come early. When his car pulled over, Emma popped out from the passenger seat and called out, "Ophelia, come on! We've been waiting for you for ages."She was behaving as though she were Caleb's wife.If she had done this in the past, I would have most probably dragged her out of the car and forced Caleb to choose between us. I would've been

The silence in the living room lasted for a full 30 seconds. It was so quiet that one could hear a pin drop. Finally, Caleb looked at me in disbelief. "What did you just say?"I replied calmly, "I said alright. Let's get a divorce."The divorce agreement that Blair had written up for me was in my purse.I was just about to take it out when Caleb suddenly let out a mocking laugh. "This is another one of your schemes, isn't it? It's a pity that your tricks are far too dumb. Well, I'm certainly not falling for it!"Then, he stormed out, slamming the door as he left.He never came home for a month.During that time, one of his best friends contacted me, saying urgently, "Caleb's gotten into a car accident. He's in the hospital! You should come over right away!"I merely said in response, "I'm not a doctor, so I wouldn't be of any help. You should hire a nurse if he needs an extra pair of hands. Or better yet, contact Emma. I'm sure she would be more than happy to nurse him back to

Chapter 5

I took Caleb's hand in mine, removed our wedding ring from his finger, and slipped the ring Emma had made onto his now bare ring finger. I didn't forget to help Emma wear the remaining ring. Then, I stacked their hands on top of one another before saying with a smile, "I wish you both a happy marriage."I could practically hear everyone's jaws dropping to the floor. Finally, I didn't forget to toss our wedding ring aside before leaving the private room.Caleb chased after me, looking even more panicked than he had before. He blocked my path, saying, "Ophelia, please listen to me. It's not what you think. There's nothing between Emma and me!"I pried his hands off me, drawling, "I genuinely think you two would make a good match for each other.""I'm not in a relationship with Emma!" Caleb yelled. Then, he hastily continued, "I know you're only acting this way because of the rings. I swear, I had no idea she had those custom-made. I never even planned to spend Valentine's Day

Chapter 6

Caleb and Liam were acquainted. Unfortunately, they would always get into near-squabbles whenever they met.Caleb would constantly insist that there was no such thing as just friendship between a man and a woman. He would claim that Liam had feelings for me and demanded that we cut off contact. As a result, Liam and I went from close friends to familiar strangers. However, times had changed now.I would no longer be making any changes for Caleb, even if he screamed himself hoarse. So, I ended the call and went home with Blair. I had a good sleep and only woke up at noon.My phone had been charged through the night. Hence, I saw several missed calls and messages on my screen when I unlocked it. They were all from Caleb. When I saw yet another incoming call from him, I scrunched my brows and begrudgingly answered it.Caleb's voice was hoarse as he begged, "Ophelia, come downstairs. Let's go home, alright?"I drew the curtains open and immediately saw that his car was parked righ

Chapter 7

It was a call from Pauline. After he ended the call, he said awkwardly, "Ophelia, Emma attempted suicide. She's in the hospital right now and refuses to cooperate with the doctor unless I visit her. "We grew up together. I can't possibly watch from the sidelines now that this has happened to her. I have to see her. I swear I'll be home immediately. Please wait for me, okay, darling?"He was addressing me so sweetly, just so he could get my permission to run to another woman's side.I felt a surge of nausea threatening to crawl out of my throat. My lips pulled themselves into a tight smile as I said, "Go ahead."Caleb grinned and said eagerly, "I'll be home before you even know it. Wait for me here!"He ran out of the house. Then, he didn't return home all night.I packed up his belongings in his suitcase for one final time before throwing it out of the house.I changed the password on the locks and deleted his facial and fingerprint history from the system before sending him

Chapter 8

Since I didn't receive Caleb's signed divorce papers, I promptly filed for a lawsuit. When that happened, Caleb seemed to have gotten himself a vacation or something. After all, he suddenly had a lot of time to waste. He had been making a nuisance of himself waiting for me at my company's entrance. He would show up every single damn day, rain or shine. He said, "Ophelia, I've ended things with Emma. I've even barred her from visiting me. I know I've made a mistake. Ophelia, I don't want a divorce. Please forgive me. Let's start over, okay? I'm begging you."I looked at him coldly. "Emma was never the problem. Even if Emma didn't exist, there would be other women making themselves a thorn in my side. Do you not understand what's going on here, Caleb? I never said I don't want a marriage, what I want gone is you. I find you filthy."Caleb didn't believe a word out of my mouth as he argued, "No, that's impossible! You love me, Ophelia. You've loved me so deeply. How could you cast me
