Alpha Nyxion's POV"Hey...hey, it's not my fault your meals are the absolute best," I said, raising my hands in surrender. "Yeah we'll keep your growls to yourself. Some people are approaching a hundred and twenty next month, and would not like a heart attack," She grumbled, returning to turn the stew in the pot. I sat on the stool in the middle of the kitchen and watched her work. Avery was more like a second mother to me and my brothers, and we never made her feel any less. She was also the only one Varek listened to whenever he threw his tantrums. Our mother's death was something no one could ever explain to us, and after years and years of searching, I just concluded that we would never be able to understand what happened to her. Even father couldn't give us a valid explanation, until he died too."Quit sulking and taste the broth. I want to add the rootherbs in it," Avery said, snapping me out of my thoughts. She held the long wooden spoon in her hand, with broth steaming from

Naeris's POVI stared at the giant basket of lady clothes in front of me and fought the urge to burn it all down. I had left the council hall earlier, after Varek's sudden summon and Draven's unnecessary smug grin. I felt like eventually I would come closer and closer to ripping his throat out. Avery had wanted me to help her with the dishes. A fairly normal job which I was doing, until a sweet scent spread into the kitchen. Avery shot me a look, one that said "don't say anything ", and I furrowed my brows, confused. Soon, the owner of said scent walked in, chirping a soft song and sauntering over to the pot of stew Avery had cooked earlier. I took a good look at her and fought the urge to roll my eyes. It was the same girl Nyxion had been railing with his fingers in the hallway. Hm. She looked good, I'd give her that, but she looked sassy too. And not in the good way. She had shot me a glance, sized me up with her eyes and "accidentally" pushed me out of the sink. I landed on m

Naeris's POV I hung the last piece of royal lady dress on the line, my arms aching with exhaustion. "I hate this," I kept muttering, but no one heard. No one would come to save me. I sat on the small stool beside the garden where I'd hung the clothes and sighed. My neck was sore from the claw marks Draven had placed, but my wolf was filled with a hunger I knew too well. Hunger for him. My mind reeled as I recalled how he had Draven pinned to the wall, shaking with rage while the asshole shuddered underneath him. It woke something up deep inside me, primal and strangely proud. My wolf wanted him so bad, and so did I. But I just couldn't. He had made it obvious I wasn't for him, and all I was doing was respect that. He just saved me back there because it was his duty. I stared at the empty basket and thought about Aerila. He even had her, too, so what use was I?"Little helion, what's wrong?" I heard a voice ring out into the yard. I jumped and turned to see Aeron watching me, his

Nyxion's POV The play pen was alive with little children, running around and basking in the faint moonlight. It wasn't uncommon for them to be up this late, but I was extremely tired. This wasn't what I had in mind when Aerila dragged me out here. "Babe! Come! The kids want a painting!" Aerila called for the fiftieth time. It had been like this since we got here, different services at some times, or ten services at once. It's not that I didn't like the children, they were fun, but great goddess, it was almost 1 AM and they still looked like they had all the energy in the world. I wondered if this is how it would be like when I have kids. Babies prancing around and staying up past midnight because they had so much wolf energy to spend. A faint shudder rolled down my spine. We will think about that later. I rolled my shoulders backward to get rid of the tension and stood up, walking to where Aerila stood with the kids, smiling brightly. I didn't even understand how she still had en

Naeris's POV I felt my heart lurch forward. "What do you mean by they can't wake him? Would Nyxion just drop like that?" I whispered, my pulse picking up speed. Aeron had a horrified expression on his face, before it morphed into a hardened mask. He grabbed me by the arm. "Let's go."This time, I didn't argue with the horse. I just got on, and as if he could sense the urgency of the situation, he galloped quickly alongside the other horses. All through, one thought roamed in my head. What was wrong with Nyxion?"This has never happened before," Aeron muttered under his breath, staring at the dark cloud of dust that was coming from the horse's hooves. I placed my arm on his shoulder, trying in the way I could to comfort him. "We'll figure it out."When we got to the pack house, there was an ominous feeling surrounding the building. Servants were lined up outside, their heads bowed in what I thought was solemnity. I didn't like how my wolf felt. Avery was at the door, her eyes red
