Positive. Pregnant. He tightened his fists around the folder. None of them moved for a moment as if time stood still. Dr. Jenkins stayed quiet, his eyes fixed on Xander as though he was expecting a storm to break out. He then coughed discreetly. “Mr. Blackwood… is there a problem—?” Xander’s jaw clenched. He did not look up. Instead, he relaxed his hold on the file inch by inch, and closed it with a slow motion. When he did speak his voice was low, deliberate. “How far gone is she?” Jenkins looked down at the chart. “Three weeks or so.” Three weeks. Xander let out a breath from his nose. “Any trouble?” he asked. Jenkins shrugged. “None. She’s pretty healthy. Blood pressure’s normal. Vitals are fine. No trouble signs yet.” “Good.” Xander said with a short nod. “I’ll take the file.” Xander stepped out of the hospital, still clutching the file. The sun was lower in the sky now, casting long shadows on the ground as he made his way towards where he parked his car. He got

Xander stepped out of Maya’s apartment building, the evening air brushing his face. He ran a hand through his hair. That woman could argue fire into melting. He exhaled, heading for his parked car when a familiar voice called out from the side of the building.“Boss.”Xander turned sharply. “Jeremy?”The younger man stepped out from the shadows, dressed in a sleek charcoal coat and black turtleneck, tablet tucked under one arm, phone in the other.“What the hell are you doing here?” Xander asked, blinking at him. “Weren’t you supposed to still be in Celsius City?”“I just got back,” Jeremy replied, walking briskly toward him. “Wrapped up everything on that end. The project’s in its final stages. I only came back to grab a few things from HQ when I saw this—” He lifted the tablet and tapped it. “So I came straight to find you.”Xander raised a brow. “What’s ‘this’?”Jeremy handed the tablet over without a word. Xander looked down. His face went rigid. It was a photo. A very clear one.

“Maya “ Xander said. His eyes looked at hers. “I am going out of the country for a few days. Use this time to think about what you want. Do not make decisions because of pride.”Maya crossed her arms tightly across her chest. She was so angry she wanted to hit him. “Nothing will make me change my mind, Xander. But—” she said smiling weirdly “I’ll take the leave, and that’s it.”Xander’s jaw got tighter. “Good. You have three days. When I get back I expect an answer.”Mayas lips pressed together in a line. Without saying another word she turned around and left the office. The door slammed shut behind her leaving Xander standing still behind his desk with a frown on his face.Maya walked quickly across the reception area grabbed her bag from her desk and left the building. When she walked out of the building she heard car horns, people rushing and street vendors calling out.. None of it bothered her. Her mind was already elsewhere. She needed to escape. To breathe. To leave the trouble

Cheryl sat beside him arms folded, refusing to leave. ‎ ‎"Maya go home " Cheryl said firmly for the time that night. ‎ ‎"I am fine Mom " Maya replied quietly. "I can stay." ‎ ‎We are both were okay. Cheryl pointed toward the door. "Go get some clothes. Maybe something for breakfast tomorrow. I will stay with your father." ‎ ‎Thompson opened one eye weakly. "Your mom won't move an inch. Trust me kiddo. Go home." ‎ ‎Maya hesitated, then sighed. "Alright. I will be back early in the morning." ‎ ‎She squeezed her father's hand kissed her mom on the cheek and walked out into the night. ‎ ‎The hospital parking lot was nearly empty. She cleared her throat. ‎"Seriously… thank you. That could have gone really bad." ‎He nodded once. ‎"Not bad yourself " he said. ‎Maya blinked. "What?" ‎He nodded toward the man on the ground. "That throw." ‎"Oh… that." She rubbed the back of her neck. "Just basic self-defense classes. A girl's gonna learn how to protect herself. " ‎"Even wfith that I was still pretty outnumbered. So thank you again" she stopped. ‎He nodded smoothening his clothes. ‎She started picking her stuff that had fallen over the floor. ‎"Can I know your name?" she asked after a moment. ".
