Zara’s outburst was the breaking point for Calla. She stepped forward, her eyes flashing with a spark of the wolf she had finally found. “Zara, stop. Just stop. It’s over.” Her voice cut through the air, sharper and stronger than Zara had ever heard before. “There’s no point in trying to find reasons to drag Petric back. He’s his own person, and he made his choice. I made mine, too.” She stepped closer, her eyes blazing, every word deliberate. “Waris isn’t my soulmate, Zara. A soulmate wouldn’t have treated me like trash. A mate is supposed to protect me, stand beside me, not assault me, not abuse me, not reduce me to an object of lust.” Her voice cracked for a moment, but she pressed on, fiercer than before.“I’ve forgiven him, yes. But forgiveness doesn’t mean I can stay. I can’t be with him.” She drew a breath, shoulders squaring, as if bracing against the memory itself.
