It felt so good to be home. I hadn’t realized just how much the packhouse had become my home until it came into view on the drive back. We were happily greeted and welcomed back throughout the walk to our suite. It greatly elevated my mood, especially since no one seemed to notice the makeup I was wearing to cover the remaining bruising on my face. I was relaxed and smiling by the time the elevator doors opened to our apartment.“I’m so glad to be…”“Sutton…” a female voice called from the living room.I turned in time to see Helene rushing up and throwing her arms around my neck. That’s when I saw my stepfather coming to join her. I was frozen in shock for a few moments until I was able to return their embrace.“Wh… what are you guys doing here?” I finally managed to ask. “How did you get here?”“I had them brought over after the first day of the summit,” Lucas said behind me. “We had so much else going on, I didn’t get around to telling you.”“They’ve been asking to see you ever sin

“Are you sure about this, Lucas?” Sutton asked as we got back to our apartment after dropping her family off at their rooms.I admit that I had sprung the decision to move up the ceremony on Sutton but it was time to make this official. There was no reason to put it off and a lot of reasons to make it happen soon.I grabbed her waist and pulled her toward me. My lips slammed into hers and my fingers laced in her hair at the nape of her neck, holding her in place as I deepened the kiss. It felt like it had been ages since we had a moment like this. I started to walk Sutton back towards the bedroom. She giggled as her arms wrapped around my neck.“That’s not an answer, Lucas,” she teased, but didn’t stop me.“Yes, I’m sure,” I told her as I kissed down her jaw.“That’s… that’s a lot of planning,” Sutton breathed as my mouth approached her mark.“Mhmm…” I hummed, not really paying attention to the conversation anymore.I kicked our bedroom door closed behind us and stripped off her shir

“Are you sure you’re okay with me helping you with this?” Helene asked as we got situated in the living room. “After the whole thing with Hannah, I would understand if you wouldn’t…”“Of course I’m sure, Helene,” I insisted. “She was your mother, too. Just because she gave this stuff to me doesn’t mean you don’t have a right to know what’s in it.”Helene gave me another hug. She’d been doing that a lot. Not that I minded. Nor did I mind her being a part of this mission that our mother wanted me to go on. I pulled the box across the table and opened it up.“We got a letter, too, you know,” Helene said as we started to unpack the contents.“You did?”“Mhmm,” Helene hummed. “So I don’t know why Hannah seemed so upset about this.”“I just wish I knew what I did to make her so angry with me,” I said. “I had to have done something for Mason to exploit to make her hate me so much.”I noticed Helene make a face out of the corner of my eye.“I hate to break it to you, Sutton, but Hannah has ki

“Yes, that’s Korinna,” Soloman confirmed a short while later. “She’s a distant cousin but more importantly, she was your mother’s closest friend. If anyone was helping her disappear, it was Korinna.”“You said she disappeared, too,” I replied. He nodded. “Yes. Most assumed she had been killed along with the other family members who Raphe went after. Rumors spread that she was a part of the attack. But I had always wondered if maybe she went into hiding after Leanetta’s death.”“You think she betrayed Mom?” Helene asked.Soloman shook his head. “No. There were a lot of rumors like that going around after the accident. I think Raphe was using them as a reason to hunt down those who were actually supporting Leanetta. There were so many conspiracy theories going on by that point no one put up much of an argument against his actions.”“Why didn’t you?” I asked. “It sounds like you know he was basically assassinating people. Why didn’t you do anything?”Soloman looked hurt by my accusation.

We arrived at the cabin with enough time for Ned and Max to do a security sweep of the area. This was one of our various safe houses we had throughout the territory, so it was regularly checked and maintained. However, I was more than willing to take the extra precautions to keep this meeting secret. We met the helicopter at the field to greet Swift. He was taller than I expected but looked older in person. Humans age faster than lycans, so it was hard to determine what age he was. We made our customary greetings before heading back to the cabin.“Before we proceed, I’d like to know what you plan on doing with the information I give you?” Swift said once we were safe inside. “I have a lot of connections in this industry. If this weapon leads back to one of them, they won’t be too happy if they find out I pointed you in their direction.”“Your name never needs to come up,” I said. “We have more to lose should knowledge of this meeting get out. We won’t take that risk. So, as long as yo
