Charisse“You’re married?” I stared, astonishment high in my voice. His gaze narrowed. ‘Where did that come from?’ It asked. Then, he followed my line of sight and saw the ring. I thought he would pull away, put a chivalrous distance between us, but he stayed where he was, keeping our bodies close but not touching. “What has that got to do with dinner and Crescent Properties?” He sounded annoyed, which was strange. Before I opened my mouth to explain everything that’s wrong with us having dinner together, he answered his own question in the tone of my boss. “I need more work done tonight, and I’ll be sued if you go on a hunger strike.” A smile rose to my lips, and the tension was ebbing away. “Then, I’ll lose you,” he continued, his voice serious but lighter, “as a secretary, and that’ll cost me a hell lot, Charisse.” The corners of his eyes were smiling again.
