The Eyes That Stopped Time

Kyra's POV The bell rang! After the long day at college I began packing my notes into my bag pack. I didn't want to go home. God knows I didn't–but I had to if I didn't want my stepmother to punish me severely. She has given me a specific time to get home and I must not exceed the time. Even If I got one minute late, she wouldn't spare me. The last time I missed her deadline. She made me go without dinner and scrub the entire house until my arms ached. We had closed a little late today so I was in a hurry to leave. My only thought was to get home before the clock betrayed me. “Where are you rushing to? Won't you wait for me?”Tina asked. She was my seatmate, one of the few people who treated me nicely. If I ever missed a class she would help me copy my notes without complaint. Usually we walked home together, but I won't be able to wait for her today as she wasn't ready. “I'm sorry Tina, I won't be able to wait for you today. I have a lot of things to do at home…..I want to visi

The Price On My Freedom

Kyra’s POV By the time I reached the gate of our house, my legs weren't aching from the walk–only from the fear of being late. The sun had dipped lower. I could already picture my stepmother standing in the doorway. Ever since I lost my mother, life had been very difficult , and my stepmother made it worse. I slipped inside quietly, hoping she won't notice the exact time. Luckily, she wasn't outside, which meant she hadn't seen me arrive. The air around my house was as cold as usual, a heavy feeling settled in my chest. As I stepped closer to the door, I heard an unfamiliar voice. Who is that? I asked myself. I moved closer, wanting to eavesdrop so I could know what was going on. What I heard next shocked me.“Marriage?”“Who is getting married?”Suddenly, everywhere went silent. Then I heard footsteps approaching the door, and I knew if I got caught, I would get into deep trouble.I opened the door slowly as if I were being forced.Walking inside, I greeted my stepmother and fathe

The Sum Of My Fate

Kyra’s POV I pushed the door open, and there she was standing in front of her tall gold-framed mirror, admiring herself like nothing had happened. She was always like that. Ariana believes she's the most beautiful alive, and in her mind, nothing and no one can challenge that belief. My heart was still pounding from earlier,my palm sweaty, my fingers trembling slightly, still I forced myself to move forward. I couldn't afford to look weak, not in front of her. If she caught even a hint of fear, she would use it against me. She caught my reflection in the mirror and turned back slightly, her lips curling in a smirk. “What are you doing here? She asked, voice dropping with arrogance. “if you think I'm going to cancel the marriage you're deceiving yourself".I didn't answer, instead I stepped closer, closing the gap between us, my eyes fixed on hers.“What if I give you five hundred dollars?” I asked quietly, my voice steady despite the chaos inside me. Ariana let out a sharp, bitte

A Chance Or A Trap

Kyra’s POV It was already two o clock, and I had to get home before four–or else I'd be skinned alive. Thank God Bella and I weren't in the same class; she won't even notice I hadn't been in class today. Besides, I was exhausted. I'd gone everywhere I knew and couldn't think of, yet I couldn't still find a job. They all said the same thing–they couldn't take me in because I had no certificate and no experience. Is this how my life is going to end? In an old man's house? Or should I just run away? But if I do, where would I stay? I kept talking to myself in frustration.I looked up and I spotted a hotel, it was quite big and beautiful, the owner must be very rich, I said to myself. A sign post outside read: female worker needed. I thought to myself, should I just go and try my luck? But then again, what if they turned me down like the rest, I couldn't take another rejection.Still, I went anyway. It was better to try than to live with the regrets of not trying for the rest of my lif

Game Of Obedience

Ethan POV“Pull off your clothes. Everything. Make sure there’s nothing left on you,” I said firmly. The memory of that day at college burned through my mind—the slap, the insult, the way she had called me a pervert in front of everyone. I had sworn then that I’d make her pay. And now, watching her stand in front of me, nervous and vulnerable, I knew this was only the beginning. Her eyes widened instantly, blinking too fast as if she couldn’t quite process what she had just heard. A crease formed between her brows, and her lips parted like she wanted to speak but couldn’t find the words. She looked down, fingers clutching the hem of her dress so tightly her knuckles turned pale. When her gaze lifted again, fear clouded her face, but beneath it was something else–a flicker of defiance, a stubbornness that hadn’t completely died. Her voice trembled when she finally spoke.“W-what? You can’t be serious… Why would you even ask me that? I just came here for a job.”I leaned back in my chai

A Different Deal

Kyra's POV I took a hesitant step forward. My heart was beating so fast I could feel it in my throat. I tried not to let it show. I really did. But my hands were shaking a little, and I knew he could see it. That irritating little smirk tugged at the corner of his lips as though he were enjoying every second of my discomfort. There wasn't even the slightest trace of guilt in his eyes. I hated him for it. I hated that I had been reduced to this. I made myself keep walking. Each step felt heavier than the last, like my body was arguing with my mind the whole way there. When I finally reached his chair, I stopped in front of him. I lowered myself onto his lap. Slowly. My legs weren't fully steady, but I didn't let that stop me. Up close, I could see the little details I'd missed before—the sharp line of his jaw, the way his eyes never really softened even when he smiled. He looked at me like I was something he'd already won. I leaned in. My heart was pounding so hard I wa

Terms and conditions

Another offer? What could it be. I kept thinking about it while putting on my clothes, with the little shame left in me. There was silence for some time, and the next thing that happened was he dropped a document on the table. "Sit and go through the document. Tell me the one you're not okay with... in fact, there's no need for negotiation, you have to do everything in it. Well, I can give you some days to think about it, but I can only give you whatever you need after you've agreed." I opened the document, my hand still trembling. Marriage?!!!!! Ohh, I said that out loud. Marriage wasn't even part of the agenda. I kept looking at Ethan's face for him to give me an explanation, but he stayed silent. I pulled the contract closer and began to read. The first few lines were simple enough. Three years marriage. Same bedroom. Active sex life with mutual consent. Wait a minute, active what!!!!! No, I'm not doing this. "Okay, you can drop it then." He didn't move.

Ethan's Pov

The door clicked shut behind her. "Adrian," I said, before the silence could settle. "Take her home. It's late." "Of course, sir." I listened to their footsteps fade down the corridor, then the elevator chime, and then there was nothing. I lowered myself into the chair behind my desk and stared at the empty seat across from me, the one she had sat in an hour ago, gripping the pages as though they might bite. I kept replaying her face while she read. The color draining out of it. The way her lips parted on the clause about the active, mutual intimacy, and the quiet, shaky breath she let out before she read it a second time. She hadn't said a word. She hadn't needed to. Was I doing the right thing? I didn't have an answer. I'd had one this morning, when the plan was clean and the terms were just terms. Now I was sitting here with my jaw clenched and my pulse still unsteady, and I couldn't explain why. And why had I written that clause? It wasn't in the first draft. I'd add

Unwelcome

"Thank you for bringing me home, Adrian." He gave me a small nod, waited until I stepped out of the car, and drove off almost immediately. I stood there watching the taillights shrink down the street until they disappeared. Now that I was back, the hair felt heavier than it had in Ethan's office, as if the house itself were pressing down on my head. Coming back here had always felt like a punishment. I couldn't even call it home. Home is where the people who love you are, and no one here loved me. I was a burden to them, and I never forgot it. I was never really welcome. Well, I still have to go in. I let out a tired sigh and walked to the door. Before I could even lift my head, I sensed someone standing in front of me. I raised my eyes slowly, hoping it wasn't her. Of course it was. Ariana. She glared at me, and it wasn't her usual frown. This one was sharper, colder. I could tell she was furious. "Where are you coming from?" she snapped. I knew she wasn't asking beca
