IRISThe moment we step outside, the air feels different. Everything looks familiar, yet the atmosphere carries a weight that makes my chest tighten. The trees around the Haven are lit with warm lanterns that flicker like small stars. Wolves from our pack walk beside us in their ceremonial clothing. Some hold candles. Some carry gifts. Some simply watch me with soft smiles, like they know what this night means before I even allow myself to feel it.Daisy squeezes my hand. She has been talking the entire walk, but I barely process her words. My dress sways behind me in a soft, maroon pool. My heart beats a little faster with each step toward the clearing where the ceremony will take place. The moon hangs almost unnaturally large. Full. Round. Bright. As if it has been waiting. When we reach the entrance to the clearing, Daisy lets out a quiet breath. “Ready?” she whispers.I try to smile. “I think so.”I don’t know if I mean it.People part as we step forward. I see familiar faces. Fri

KELVINThe room is a storm, a chaos of light and shadow and murmurs, but all I could see, no, all I could feel was her. Iris. Clinging to him. Clinging to Darian. The very air trembled around them as if the universe itself were holding its breath. She was crying. Really crying. Sobbing into him, arms wrapped tight around his brother’s waist. And Darian, my brother, was letting her. He was letting her hold him, let her fear, her anger, her despair flow into him, and he was letting it break him a little.I’d never seen him like this. Not ever. Since our mother died, Darian had been… broken. Hollowed out. He moved through life like a shadow of the man he should have been, obeying father, maintaining control, keeping his distance from everyone including me. Every choice, every step, had been dictated by duty. Loyalty. Fear. But now, he was trembling under her hands, eyes glassy with tears he barely managed to hide, and my chest tightened like someone was squeezing my ribs.Because I knew

IRISI reach the bedroom door and pause, hand on the handle. My fingers feel cold, almost numb, but it’s not from the temperature. It’s the weight of everything that happened tonight. The way Kelvin… gave himself so that Darian could live. So that I could live.I want to scream. I want to cry. I want to curl into a ball and disappear, because no matter how much relief I feel that Darian is alive, the thought of Kelvin’s lifeless body burns my chest. It’s not just grief. It’s guilt. How can I be here, breathing, when he… He chose to die so that we could survive. My mind reels at the unfairness, the tragedy. He didn’t have to. He shouldn’t have. But he did.I step into the room slowly. The air is thick, charged in a way I can’t quite place. Darian sits on the edge of the bed, his dark form silhouetted against the muted light spilling in from the window. He hasn’t moved, hasn’t spoken. He doesn’t even look at me. And I don’t want him to. Not yet. Not tonight. There’s something about him

IRISThe morning sun filters through the high windows of Lycan’s Haven, painting golden streaks across the polished floors and banners hung for the coronation. My hands are trembling slightly as I stand in front of the mirror, adjusting the intricate silver embroidery on my gown. It feels heavier than I imagined it would, a weight both literal and symbolic. Queen. The word tastes strange on my tongue, almost unreal. Weeks have passed since Kelvin’s sacrifice, yet I still feel the echo of that choice beneath my ribs, a quiet gratitude for the life it allowed me to step into now.Darian is already awake, seated near the edge of the bed, the early sunlight catching the angles of his face. He doesn’t speak; he doesn’t have to. I can feel his presence, steady and grounding, like the calm beneath a storm. I take a breath, smoothing the fabric of my gown again, and step closer.“Ready?” His voice is low, a rumble in my chest more felt than heard.I glance at him, nerves bubbling. “I think s

DARIAN The moment the healers rush into our bedroom, my heart feels like it’s hanging by a thread. Iris is lying on the bed, too still, too pale, her lashes resting against her skin like fragile shadows. Her breathing is shallow, but steady enough that I don’t collapse outright.Still… I can’t stay still.I pace.Back and forth. Back and forth. The marble floor beneath my boots is cold, but sweat clings to my palms. The room smells of lavender, warm sunlight, and Iris, usually comforting scents, but right now they suffocate me.Daisy sits beside the bed, holding Iris’s limp hand between both of hers. She keeps whispering, “You’re okay, Iris… you’re okay,” but I can hear the tremor in her voice.I can barely breathe.Every time Iris winces or shifts or lets out the softest groan, my chest tightens until it feels like something inside me is going to snap. This is my fault. My mate. My Queen. My entire world, hurt and shaking, in pain because I failed to see the threat right behind me.
