BRYNN POV We walk the cold, dark tunnel. It’s pitch-black, but Kade holds a flashlight. We stop every so often, listening—footsteps above, assessing the next move. Kade towers over me. I’m 5’4 and he’s easily a foot taller, broad-shouldered, solid. He smells good—warm, woodsy, unlike Vex’s expensive, dangerous scent. His long blonde hair is pulled back, his beard full, the scar along his eye giving him a rough edge. Undeniably attractive. I shove the thought away. I’m running for my life, not rating the men who might kill me. But Kade leans in closer, his presence overwhelming.
