CHAPTER EIGHT: THE ULTIMATUMALESSIA———“Fuck!” I howl, sweeping my hands across the tabletop. Porcelain and glass explode into a hundred pieces, scattering across the floor. “Arghhhh!” I rip at my hair, pacing the room like a deranged woman, my breath ragged. CHAPTER TEN: TO PLAY WITH FIRENICO———I watch quietly and take a slow sip of my martini as Alessia tilts back her whiskey and slams the empty shot glass on the table. She mutters something that sounds like a cuss under her breath, and drags both palms over her face before pushing her fingers through her messy hair.Even with the bar’s dim lights, the black streaks on her cheeks stand out. Mascar mixed with tears, dried in uneven lines.I still can’t understand how a family can be that cruel. The way her parents treated her when she came visiting earlier, was beyond heartless.
