( Kael's POV ) The first pale threads of dawn unraveled across the cracks in the cabin walls, bleeding gray light into the gloom. The fire had burned low, embers glowing like tired eyes, and the air held the metallic tang of steel sharpened too long into the night. My muscles ached, my mind frayed, but sleep had not touched me. Not really. How could it, when every heartbeat carried the weight of prophecy, every breath the fear of what hunted us? Kael stood near the door, his back to me, his silhouette framed by the dim light. His body was still, but the tension in his shoulders screamed of the storm inside him. Darius had not moved from his post either. He remained a statue by the window, blade across his knees, his eyes locked on the forest beyond. Both men radiated the same restless energy, like wolves pacing their cages, though their tempers burned in different directions. I drew the blanket tighter around myself and the child within me. My voice came softly, breaking the sile

( Kael's POV ) The sound of boots on wet earth closed in from every direction. Heavy. Disciplined. Dozens, no, more. My pulse climbed until it filled my ears, louder than the thunder of their approach. Kael’s body went rigid beside me, every line of him bristling with the kind of stillness that came before the storm. Darius met his gaze. No words, just the grim understanding of men who had seen death wear too many faces. “We can’t fight them head-on,” Darius said quietly. “Not this many. Not with her...” Kael’s growl cut him off, low and raw. “I will not run.” “Then you’ll die,” Darius snapped, stepping closer, his voice sharp as the steel in his hand. “And so will she. And the child.” The silence that followed was thin and trembling. Kael’s jaw tightened, golden eyes flicking toward me. For a heartbeat, I saw the war inside him, the Alpha’s pride against the lover’s fear. “Underground,” I whispered, my voice breaking through the tension. Both men turned to me. “The c

(Aria's POV ) Dawn crept slow through the trees, painting the forest in pale gold. The rain had left the world hushed and new. Every branch dripped with light, every shadow softened by mist. For the first time in days, the air didn’t smell like blood or fear. It smelled like promise. I woke to the warmth of Kael’s arm draped across my waist. His chest rose and fell against my back, steady and quiet. For a moment, I let myself sink into it, the rhythm of him, the rare peace in the Alpha’s breathing. His scent, woodsmoke and wild air, filled my lungs. He stirred as I did. “Morning,” he murmured, his voice rough with sleep. I turned slightly, catching his faint smile. “You almost sound human when you say it like that.” He smirked. “Don’t tell anyone. It’ll ruin my reputation.” But the teasing didn’t last long. The light shifted, and I saw it, the weight already settling back on his shoulders. The leader’s burden. The Alpha again. He sat up, running a hand through his damp ha

(Aria's POV ) The forest held its breath. Mist curled low over the undergrowth, weaving between the trunks like smoke from a dying fire. Every drop of rain that clung to the leaves glittered like a shard of moonlight, but there was no time to admire it. Danger was closer than the wet fog suggested. Kael’s hand was tight over mine, guiding me through the hollowed path beneath ancient pines. My heart thumped against his chest, matching the rhythm of his careful, measured steps. But I could feel it, a shift in the air. Not just the scent of wet earth, not just the cold brushing my skin. Something else. A presence. “Ronan,” Kael muttered, his voice low, almost a growl. The name carried weight, fear, and fury all at once. “He’s closer than we thought.” I flinched at the sound, even though I’d already heard the whispers of his approach for days. This was the first time I felt it so tangible. My powers reacted instantly, a prickle beneath my skin, a surge of energy I barely controlled

( Aria's POV ) The wind carried screams through the trees. Not human, not wolf, something worse. The kind of sound that made the earth remember old wars and old gods. Kael’s voice cut through the chaos behind me. “Aria, keep moving!” Branches tore at my arms as I ran. The mist was alive now, churning like a storm made of whispers and claws. Every shadow lunged from the corner of my sight, then vanished. I didn’t know if they were real or tricks of my fear. The forest’s pulse beat in time with mine. Every root, every drop of rain, every shiver in the wind seemed tied to the pounding in my chest. I could still feel the power, the same silver heat that had burst from me before, but now it was fragmented, wild, cutting through my veins like lightning with no place to land. I stumbled into a clearing, half-blind from panic. The air was thick with mist and blood. The scent hit me like a blow, wolf blood, heavy and iron, rich. Kael burst through the trees seconds later, his blad
