DANIKA Kaziel doesn't say anything until we're far away from the alley and my apartment. He keeps checking the side mirror to make sure we're not being followed. I'm holding his free hand, which is still shaking slightly. "You should call Aaron. He was supposed to go to the alley to meet us," I tell him, half expecting some kind of reprimand. Instead, he gives me a gentle smile. "Thank you, dove," he says, and the boulder on my chest instantly melts. He hands me his phone, asking me to call Aaron and tell him to head back to the house. So, I do just that. When we finally reach the house, Kaziel parks the car. Just as I'm about to step out, he gestures for me to wait. Then he hurries over to my side of the car to open the door. He holds out a hand, and I place mine in his. He does this most of the time, but there's something different about this one. The instant I'm out of the car, my legs give out, and he scoops me into his arms like he's been waiting for that to happen.
