CHLOE POV The hum of the hospital machines was the only steady thing left in my life. It was all that was helping me stay sane at the moment after all my effort to get Ethan talk about him not taking his drugs failed. Everything else felt like thin glass, ready to shatter again with the smallest pressure. I sat beside Ethan’s bed, my fingers lightly running over his cold knuckles. His chest rose and fell in slow, it was troubled breaths. Gold sat in the corner, watching over both of us like a silent guardian. Then my phone rang. I almost didn’t reach for it, my brain too tired to calculate if I should pick up or not, my body too drained to move to take the phone. So I sat, staring at the phone until it stopped ringing. It rang a second time, this time the sound seems louder than the first one, like it was asking me to pick up. But something in me urged me to look. Zoe. I blinked. My sister never called me.Not after the incident, nor after I caught her with Ethan. This wa

Jake’s POVI watched her carefully from across the living room as she sat silently beside her father before we left. She looked… hollow. The Chloe I knew, fiery, stubborn, loud when she needed to be, was shrinking into herself, piece by piece. She was heavily pregnant, almost due, yet somehow she looked small, fragile. Like she was balancing the weight of the entire world on her shoulders. When Gold told me everything, about Zoe, Ethan, the pregnancy stress, I couldn’t breathe for a moment. It felt like someone punched me straight in the chest. All I could think about was how she had been carrying all this alone. I had to rush immediately to the hospital address she sent to me . How she had pushed us away thinking she needed to fight everything by herself. How I let her walk away the first time.Never again. It’s not going to happen again. I won’t let it happen. As we stepped out of her father’s house, I looked back and caught the fear in his eyes. The helplessness. The protective lo

Jake’s POVI didn’t even mean to listen.I swear I wasn’t trying to eavesdrop, I was only walking toward her room because the doctor said we could move Ethan into a more comfortable ward, and I wanted to tell her before we left. But the closer I got, the clearer her voice became. Quiet. Shaky. Afraid. And then I heard Lucia’s name.I stopped. Not because I wanted to, but because something inside me froze, that instinct I’ve lived with all my life. The one that warns me when a situation is about to turn into a storm.“…Lucia, listen to me,” Chloe whispered, breath trembling. “I know your the one that sent the message, Why did you send that message? What do you mean someone is coming? What do you mean by who I trust please?”I stepped closer, my heart beating faster than usual. I shouldn’t be hearing this. But I also needed to hear this.“There is more happening than you think,” Lucia’s voice hissed through the speaker. “Just get somewhere safe. I told you, don’t trust..”Static cracked

Jake’s POVThe message came in when I was halfway through reviewing the last staff statement. One vibration from my phone, an unknown number, actually a private number, and one bold sentence:“Come alone. You know where.”No threats. No name. Just certainty, certainty that I would understand. And horribly, I did know where, and I did know who.My blood turned to ice.Adrian.He was My past. My costly mistake. My ghost.I left the room without telling Antonio or not the staffs. Without telling Chloe. Without telling myself to stop. Some instincts run deeper than logic, and Adrian always had a way of pulling me back into the darkness I spent years trying to crawl out of.By the time I reached the abandoned parking lot the message implied, my heartbeat was hammering against my ribs. Not fear, rage. Because if Adrian was behind everything happening to Zoe, Lucia, and Chloe…Then I was the stupid one for staying quiet all these years, without thinking of acting and calming things down whil

JAKES’s POVEverything been happening in a rush, like I was being times. My head felt like it was splitting open.Between Chloe screaming in surgery, to save our baby, Tyler hanging on by a thread, the constant echo of Adrian’s taunts, and the crushing silence of waiting, I was unraveling.I sat in one of those hard plastic hospital chairs, elbows on my knees, hands clasped so tight my knuckles turned white. Patiently waiting and hoping for a good news. My leg kept bouncing uncontrollably.Anytime a doctor or nurse walked by, my heart hit my ribs. I rushed towards them to ask if my Chloe or Tyler were responding, but they all seem to be in a rush. No one was ready to give me the attention I desire. Anytime a phone vibrated, I flinched.I wasn’t scared of death. But I was terrified of losing the people I loved.I kept replaying the words of the doctor about the baby life, the sudden CS surgery she will undergo and the forever labor. Not to even talk of the fact that I Kept hearing Ty
