CHAPTER 51

ADRIAN'S POVThe steel mill looks worse up close.Rusted beams. Shattered windows. The whole structure groans in the wind like it might collapse any second.Perfect place for a secret meeting. Isolated. Abandoned. Defensible.I hate it."Alpha. We're in position." Marcus's voice crackles through my earpiece. "North entrance secured. No movement yet.""Copy. Hold position." I scan the perimeter from the roof of the adjacent warehouse. "Clara. Report.""South side clear. Freya's with me. She's fine." Clara knows I need to hear that last part.Freya. My mate. Right in the middle of a potential war zone because she's too stubborn to stay safe."She shouldn't be here. We should have locked her up."We tried that. She would have followed anyway. At least this way I can protect her."Protect her by bringing her here? Brilliant.""All units maintain radio silence unless you spot targets." I keep my voice low. "We observe. We listen. No engagement unless absolutely necessary."A chorus of conf

CHAPTER 52

FREYA'S POV"Stay down." Clara's hand pushes my head lower behind the rusted equipment. "They haven't seen us yet.""Yet being the key word." My heart pounds so hard I can hear it. "Clara this was a bad idea. We should leave.""We follow Adrian's orders. We stay until he says move."From our hiding spot I can see the main building. See Asher's wolves positioned outside. See the expensive sedan that brought whoever that important-looking man was.Adrian texted me it's someone from the High Council. That this is worse than expected.Everything about this feels wrong. The air is too quiet. The shadows too deep. Like the whole place is holding its breath waiting for violence."Can you see Adrian?" I whisper."No. He went inside five minutes ago. Radio silent since then." Clara shifts slightly. Her hand stays on her weapon. "Trust him. He knows what he's doing."I want to trust him. But every instinct screams danger. The bond pulls tight in my chest. Anxious. Warning. Then I see movement.

CHAPTER 53

ADRIAN'S POV"They're following us." Marcus glances in the rearview mirror. "Three vehicles. Maybe more.""I know.""Lose them.""Working on it." Marcus takes a hard right. "But with Clara's condition we can't do anything too aggressive. She needs a hospital."Clara lies across the back seat. Unconscious. Blood seeping through makeshift bandages. Her breathing is shallow. She's dying. One of my best wolves is dying because I brought them into a trap."We should have known. Should have sensed the betrayal."I know. But it's too late for should haves.Freya sits pressed against me. Still shaking. Still processing what she saw. I shifted in front of her and she called me beautiful. The girl is either insane or a saint. Maybe both."Adrian." Her voice is small. "Clara's not breathing right. Something's wrong."I lean forward. Check Clara's pulse. It's there but weak and Fading."Marcus. Hospital. Now. I don't care about the tail.""If we go to a hospital Asher will know. He'll have peop

CHAPTER 54

FREYA'S POVThey took him.I watched them chain Adrian with silver and throw him into that van like he was nothing and I did nothing. Just stood there choking in Kelvin's grip while they drove away with him."Let me go." My voice is hoarse from screaming. "Let me go you bastard."Kelvin releases me suddenly, I stumbled and hit myself in the ground hard. My palms scrape against concrete."Go then. Run to your pathetic pack. See if they can save your precious Alpha." He spits on the ground near my hand. "You have twenty four hours. Then we start hurting him. Really hurting him."He gets in the last remaining vehicle. They drive off. Leaving us in the wreckage. In the blood. In the failure.Marcus limps over. He shifted back. His leg is torn open. Bleeding badly. "Freya. Are you hurt?""Adrian." The name comes out broken. "They took Adrian. We have to go after them. We have to get him back.""We will. But first we get Clara to safety. She's minutes from death." Marcus grabs my arm. Pulls

CHAPTER 55

FREYA'S POVThe compound looks like a prison.High walls. Guard towers. Wolves patrolling every inch. Kelvin drives through the gates like he owns the place because his father does own the place."Welcome home." His voice drips with sarcasm. "Hope you enjoy your stay.""Where is Adrian?" I try to keep my voice steady. "You said you would stop hurting him.""And we did. He's alive but obviously chained, we can'teg that monster loose But his alive." Kelvin parks near a large building that looks like a warehouse. "You'll see him soon enough. After Father has his chat with you."He drags me out of the car. My legs feel like jelly but I force them to work. Force myself to walk instead of being dragged like livestock.Inside the building is worse than outside. Cold. Dark. The smell of blood and fear soaked into the concrete. Cells line the walls. Some empty. Some not.I hear growling. Whimpering. The sounds of wolves in pain."What is this place?" My voice comes out as a whisper."Where Fa

CHAPTER 56

FREYA'S POVI wake up to someone kicking my leg."Get up." A female voice."Boss wants to see you."My eyes adjust to the dim light. A woman stands over me. Short dark hair. Scar across her cheek. She looks like she enjoys hurting people."Where am I?" My voice is scratchy. My throat hurts from the darkness and fear."Still in the compound. Been out for six hours. Boss let you sleep. Don't know why. I would have started on you immediately." She grabs my arm. Hauls me up. "Move."My legs barely work. Everything aches. The bond in my chest feels tight which is wrong. Adrian is still in pain somewhere in this building. The woman drags me through hallways. Past more cells. Past wolves who watch me with hungry eyes. Past doors I do not want to know what is behind. We stop at a room. Clean. Bright. Nothing like the cell. A table. Two chairs. Windows that show the compound yard.Asher sits at the table. Two plates of food in front of him. He smiles when he sees me."Freya. Please sit. You mus

CHAPTER 57

KELVIN'S POVI have been here for twelve hours. No food. No water. Just stone walls and the knowledge that I failed again. Failed to warn Freya. Failed to stop my father. Failed to be anything other than what he made me.A killer. A coward. A tool.I hear footsteps approaching. My father's. I know his walkThe cell door opens. He stands in the doorway. Arms crossed and facing me."How long are you going to pout in here?" His voice is cold. "I have work for you.""I am not pouting. I am imprisoned. There is a difference.""Semantics. You disobeyed me. You tried to interfere with my plans. You had to be punished." He steps inside. "But punishment is over. Now you get a chance to redeem yourself."I do not want redemption. Not his version anyway. But I need to get out of this cell. Need to find a way to actually help Freya instead of just promising it."What do you want?""Tomorrow morning we have the rejection ceremony. You will guard Freya. Make sure she does not try anything stupid. M

Chapter Fifty Eight

MARCUS'S POVThe penthouse feels wrong without Adrian.I stand in his office staring at maps spread across his desk. Strategic positions. Guard rotations. Weak points in Asher's compound. Everything we need to plan a rescue.Except we cannot plan a rescue because the Council forbids it."This is insane." Clara paces behind me. Her leg is still healing from the steel mill. She should be resting but she refuses. "We cannot just leave them there.""Council's orders are clear. We do not move without approval." I keep my voice steady even though everything in me screams to disobey. "Going rogue means losing pack status. Losing protection. Losing everything Adrian built.""He would go. If it was one of us he would already be there."She is right. Adrian would burn the world down to save any of us. Would defy Council. Would risk everything. But Adrian is Alpha. I am just Beta. I do not have his authority. His power. His complete disregard for rules when it comes to protecting what is his.My

CHAPTER 59

ADRIAN'S POVThe silver chain kept burning deep into my flesh. That's the first thing I'm aware of when consciousness crawls back. Not where I am. Not how I got here. Just the searing, constant agony of silver chains wrapped around my wrists, my throat, my chest.Every breath makes the metal dig deeper. Every slight movement sends fresh waves of pain through my nervous system.I force my eyes open. The cell is small. Concrete walls. No windows. A single bare bulb hanging from the ceiling casting harsh shadows. The smell of blood and fear soaked into every surface. My blood. Other people's blood. Years of suffering condensed into this eight by eight foot tomb."Where is she? Where is Freya?"Kael is barely there. The silver suppresses him. Weakens the connection between man and wolf. I can feel him trying to surface, trying to help, but the chains are too strong."Find mate. Protect mate. She's in danger."I know. I fucking know. But I can't do anything chained to this wall like an ani

CHAPTER 60

ADRIAN'S POVMy hand grips the wall as I try to stay upright. Trying to think through the exhaustion and pain. Then I smell it. Her scent. Faint but there. Leading toward the exit. Toward outside. She was moved. Recently. Maybe just minutes ago.I force my legs to work. Follow her scent. Through more hallways. Past more empty cells. Toward a door that opens to the compound yard.Dawn is breaking. Pink and orange streaking across the sky. The yard is huge. Open space. Guards watching from towers. And in the center of it all.Asher stands there. Holding Freya by her throat. A gun pressed against her temple. She's conscious. Fighting his grip. But weak. Too weak to break free. Our eyes meet across the distance. The bond flares to life. Stronger than the silver. Stronger than anything. She's alive. She's here. She's mine."Adrian." Asher's voice carries across the yard. "So glad you could join us. Just in time for the show."He presses the gun harder against her head. She whimpers. The so
