CHAPTER 81

ADRIAN'S POVThe attack comes at dawn.Twenty wolves. Maybe more. Hitting our northern border hard and fast. Not reconnaissance. Not testing. Full assault.Retaliation for Emma's rescue. For Lyra's execution. For every time we've defied him.I'm there in minutes. Shifted. Running. Kael demanding blood. Demanding we protect our territory. Our pack. Our mate. The battle is already in progress when I arrive. My wolves fighting. Holding the line. But they're outnumbered. Outmatched. Asher's wolves are fresh. Aggressive. Coordinated.I slam into the nearest enemy. Teeth finding throat. Crushing. Killing. Moving to the next before the first hits the ground.Marcus fights beside me. Clara covering our flank. Everyone working together. Fighting as a unit. But we're still losing ground. Still being pushed back. Asher's wolves keep coming. Wave after wave. Like he has an endless supply."Fall back to secondary positions!" I command through pack link. "Controlled retreat. Don't let them scatter

CHAPTER 82

FREYA'S POVI'm pushing too hard. I know I am. But I don't care.Three hours of training. Non-stop. Shifting partially. Holding it. Reversing. Again and again and again. Trying to break through whatever barrier keeps me from full shift."Freya. You need to rest." Clara wipes sweat from her forehead. "You're going to hurt yourself.""I'm fine. Again." I force another partial shift. My hands. My arms. Fur erupting. Then fading. "I need to get this. Need to master it. War is coming and I can't face it half-shifted.""You won't face it at all if you collapse from exhaustion." She moves closer. "You've been at this for hours. Your body needs recovery time. Needs rest. Pushing past your limits doesn't make you stronger. It makes you injured.""I don't have time for rest. Asher attacked yesterday. Killed two of our wolves. He's planning something bigger. I need to be ready." I try again. Full shift. Complete transformation. "Come on. COME ON."Nothing. Just partial. Just stuck between forms.

CHAPTER 83

ADRIAN'S POV"You want me to do what?" Kelvin stares at me like I've lost my mind."Reach out to your contacts in Asher's pack. The ones who might be sympathetic to our cause. The ones who are tired of his leadership. The ones who might feed us information." I lean back in my chair. "You said yourself there are wolves in his pack who want out. Who hate what he's become. Let's use that.""You want me to build a spy network. Inside my father's pack. Using wolves who might be loyal to him. Who might report back everything I tell them." Kelvin shakes his head. "That's suicide Adrian. For me and for anyone who agrees to help.""Which is why we're careful. Why we only approach wolves you absolutely trust. Why we give them information that seems valuable but is actually useless. Why we use them to feed Asher false intelligence." I stand. Move to the window. "We can't win a straight fight. He has more wolves. More resources. More territory. But we can win through strategy. Through deception.

CHAPTER 84

ADRIAN'S POVThe meeting with Thomas goes better than expected. He shows up alone. No backup. No ambush. Just an exhausted Beta who's tired of serving a tyrant. We talk for two hours. About Asher's plans. About his weaknesses. About the wolves in his pack who are loyal and the ones who are looking for any excuse to defect.Thomas agrees to feed us intelligence. Weekly reports on troop movements, strategy sessions, supply lines. Everything we need to stay ahead of Asher's plans. In exchange we promise sanctuary when this is over. Protection for him and any wolves he helps extract. A place in our pack if he wants it.It's more than we hoped for. More than we expected. A genuine inside source. A way to anticipate Asher's moves before he makes them.Freya stayed hidden the whole time. Watching from the treeline. Ready to intervene if needed. But everything went smoothly. No trap. No betrayal. Just a successful recruitment of the most valuable spy we could ask for. We're heading back now.

chapter 85

FREYA'S POVMy heat lasts five days.Five days of barely leaving our room. Five days of Adrian taking care of me. Of us giving in to every need. Every desire. Every desperate craving the heat brings.By the time it finally breaks we're both exhausted. Satisfied. Closer than ever. The bond between us practically glowing with strength even without the completing mark.I'm just starting to feel normal again when Marcus knocks on our door. "I need both of you. Now. We have a situation."Adrian and I exchange glances, stood up and got dressed quickly. Then we followed Marcus to his office where the entire inner circle is gathered. Clara. Chief Winters(who was surprisinly close after the ritual incident ). Dr. Chen. Kelvin. All looking grim."What happened?" Adrian asks immediately.Marcus holds up a letter. "This was delivered an hour ago. By one of Asher's wolves. Under flag of truce.""What does it say?""Read it yourself." Marcus hands it over.Adrian opens it. I read over his shoulder

CHAPTER 86

ADRIAN'S POV"Absolutely not." I slam the battle plans on the table. "You're not going on the front lines. That's final.""You don't get to make that decision for me." Freya's voice is deadly calm. The kind of calm that precedes a storm. "I'm a wolf now. I can fight. I deserve to be in the battle.""I don't care if you can fight. I won't risk you. Won't watch you get hurt or killed because you want to prove something." I lean over the table. "You'll stay in the secondary position. Protected. Safe. Where I can focus on the fight instead of worrying about you.""Protected? Safe? Like some fragile human who needs a man to defend her?" Her eyes flash gold. "I trained for this Adrian. Mastered my shift for this. I'm not sitting on the sidelines while everyone else risks their lives.""This isn't about you being weak. It's about you being valuable. Being my mate. Being too important to risk in the front lines." I try to keep my voice level. Try not to let Kael's possessiveness bleed through

Chapter 87

FREYA'S POVDay one without Adrian.I wake up in Clara's apartment. Alone. Cold. The bond between us aching. Pulling. Demanding I go back to him. Demanding I fix this. Demanding I stop this separation that's killing us both. But I can't. Not yet. Not when I still see his fangs. Still feel his body pinning me. Still remember the terror of thinking he was going to take my choice away.Clara makes breakfast. I don't eat. Just push food around my plate. Trying to process. Trying to understand how we got here. How love became fear. How protection became control."Has anyone heard from him?" I finally ask."No. He's gone. Disappeared into the woods right after... after it happened." Clara sits across from me. "Marcus is worried. Says he's never seen Adrian like this. So out of control. So broken.""Good." "He should be broken. Should feel what he almost did. Should..." I can't finish. Can't say I want him to suffer when part of me just wants him back. Wants his arms around me. Wants everyt

Chapter 88

ADRIAN'S POV I run until I can't feel my legs anymore. Until exhaustion should force me to stop. But it doesn't. Just keep running. Away from what I almost did. Away from the terror in Freya's eyes. Away from the monster I almost became.Eventually I shift back to human. Collapse in a clearing I've known for decades. The place I come when leadership becomes too much. When the weight of being Alpha crushes me. When I need to remember who I am beneath the title.Except I don't know who that is anymore. Don't know anything except that I almost forced a mating mark on my mate. Almost violated her in the worst way possible. Almost proved I'm no better than Asher. Than any Alpha who uses power to control instead of protect."You look like hell." A voice. Female. Familiar. From the shadows of the trees.I'm on my feet instantly. Defensive. "Who's there? Show yourself."A woman steps into the moonlight. Old. Ancient even by wolf standards. Silver hair. Sharp eyes. I know her. Everyone knows

Chapter 89

FREYA'S POVSomething is wrong with Adrian. He came back from those three days different. Colder. More distant. Like he's already started pulling away. Like he's already decided we're over but hasn't told me yet.At first I think it's guilt. Shame over what he almost did. The near-marking. The loss of control. But it's more than that. It's intentional. Like he's deliberately creating distance. Deliberately pushing me away. Deliberately ending us slowly instead of all at once. And I don't understand why. Don't understand what changed in those three days. Don't understand where he went or what he did or what broke inside him that made him stop fighting for us.We're preparing for the traditional challenge tonight. Adrian will face Asher one-on-one. Winner takes all. Loser dies. The pack is mobilized. Ready. Confident in their Alpha. Confident he'll win. Confident this ends tonight. But I'm not confident. Because Adrian is different. And different doesn't feel like stronger. Doesn't feel

Chapter 90

FREYA'S POVThe challenge is over.Adrian won. Of course he won. He used Elder Moira's strategy perfectly. He offered mercy publicly. He forced Asher to either submit or die. Asher's pride wouldn't let him submit. His survival instinct couldn't let him die. The contradiction shattered him. His own wolf tore him apart from the inside. Exactly as predicted, but he escaped Now I don't know if the war just began or is just over, but I guess for now We won. The pack is celebrating. Cheering. Rejoicing. Finally safe from the threat that's haunted us for months. But I can't celebrate. I can't feel relief. Can't feel anything except the hollow ache of knowing it's time. Time to leave. Time to say goodbye. Time to choose myself even though it's destroying me.I wait until the celebration dies down. Until most of the pack is drunk or asleep or too distracted to notice one person slipping away. Then I go to the room I shared with Adrian. The room I won't be sharing anymore. The room I'm lea
