Chapter 1 Decision

"Welcome home, sir!" The servant greeted Joshua. He was back.I tucked the phone and meds back into the secret space and closed it up. At the same time, the door swung open.Joshua saw me, and a frown furrowed his brows. "It's late. What are you doing in my study? You should be sleeping."He was still caring and warm, as if he hadn't cheated on me and had a family out there. He approached me. "You look awful. Did work get to you?"He wanted to touch my forehead, but I stepped back without thinking and evaded his touch. His hand hung midair, and a hint of surprise flickered in his eyes, but only for a moment. Then, he composed himself."Nothing. Just missing you too much, and it was keeping me up, so I wanted to find something to read here. Well, you're back now, so I can go to sleep. "Get some rest too. Don't let me wait."The last sliver of my composure was the only thing that kept me up as I wobbled out of the study. As I returned to the bedroom, I thought about the private

Chapter 2 A New Clue

The call was made. And then Joshua went on a work trip. I had a journey of my own too. I was starting to scour for evidence of him transferring assets to help Yvonne and her kid.Though I never asked about company operations, I was still the Ferreros' heiress. I knew business, and I had my sources of information. However, Joshua hid it deep. With excuses that the company was investing for charity, he moved a huge amount of money to the funds and shell companies he controlled.Yvonne's records were clean. Spotless, even.…A few days later, Joshua came back from his work trip. I knew he had just visited his newborn daughter, Cece.He came home looking overjoyed, and he was holding beautiful gift boxes."Got you something nice, Angelica." He handed the boxes to me gently. "Custom-made. It's good for you."I stared at him. The warmth in his eyes was perfectly calculated. If I didn't know better, I'd think he was the perfect husband."You don't seem too good lately," Joshua added.

Chapter 3 The Kid

Melina. I remembered her. She was a capable girl, but then she somehow crossed Yvonne and left the company.I replied, 'Sure.'We met in a quiet coffee shop. Melina seemed worn out, but her eyes were filled with determination."Ms. Ferrero, I know something's happening between you and Mr. Grayson. I left the company because of Yvonne. Many of my ex-colleagues knew she had an affair with him, but no one was brave enough to bring it up."She took a deep breath. "I have something here. You might find it useful." She handed me a flash drive."These contain records of Joshua abusing his power and using company funds to get Yvonne a house and cars. There's also evidence of him setting up a trust fund for Yvonne and her boy through foreign accounts. "Part of the money came from the charity project your family invested in. And he also took part in the earnings that were supposed to go to the other shareholders."Melina added, "That should land him in serious trouble.""Thank you." I l

Chapter 4 Inside the Office

Yvonne was standing in front of Joshua's bookshelf, and the boy was in her arms. He was holding a bracelet. My grandmother gave me that after I married Joshua. She hoped that our relationship could stand the test of time, just like that bracelet. Joshua was beside himself from receiving that gift. He promised he would treasure it.It was the only thing that signified our love for each other."This is ugly, Mom! I don't want it!" The boy flung the bracelet, and it shattered as it smashed against the ground. My heart broke into a hundred pieces as well.Yvonne noticed me. A hint of panic crept onto her face, but then she put on a fake smile. "Ms. Ferrero, what brings you here?" She bent over and picked up a broken piece like she meant an apology."Sorry, but you know kids. He didn't mean to break Mr. Grayson's stuff."I saw the mocking laughter in her eyes. "But he probably won't mind."Joshua came out of the waiting room. He heard the commotion. When he saw me and the broken brac

Chapter 5 Mask Off

"The asset division agreement is right here. I'll need you to sign it as well."Joshua picked up the papers, but his fingers were trembling. He flipped through the pages to find out how much evidence I had in hand. Every page he flipped drained more color out of his face.I had more than he'd expected. He then tried to appeal to my emotions. "Angelica, we've had years. We can talk this out. This is… a bit too far, don't you think?""Talk it out? When you fed me contraceptives and masked it as multivitamins? When you already have two kids with Yvonne?"Joshua's face fell. "What do you want?" He tore his mask off. "Name your price."My eyes were on him. "I want what's mine. I want what belongs to my family. You've seen the agreement. You will give us everything you stole and transferred. Refuse, and the judge will step in." I did not give him any quarter to bargain with.Joshua fell silent. The court was not an option. He would lose both his money and reputation. A long moment la

Chapter 6 Counterattack Starts

The assets Joshua gave me were problematic, of course. They had big debts straddled to them, and the assets were tied to many people. Dealing with them was more than a hassle. However, he missed something. One of the subsidiaries that was teetering on the brink of bankruptcy hid evidence of his years-long illegal asset transfer and money laundering. I asked Mr. Wesley's team to sneak in and find all the evidence they could. Thanks to Melina's insider information, we found all the evidence of Joshua's infidelity, medical fraud, illegal transfer of marital assets, money laundering through charity projects, embezzlement, and corporate fraud. At the same time, he contacted some of the more neutral directors and those who were annoyed with Joshua and Yvonne.I talked to them and showed some key evidence about Joshua's crimes. That gained me their support immediately.Just when I was ready to go, someone called me. Someone I did not expect. That someone was Yvonne's ex-boyfriend. He f

Chapter 7 Evidence

The first set of evidence showed Joshua and Yvonne's longtime affair. There were hotel records, indecent photos, and Joshua's transaction records during Yvonne's pregnancy. That caused an uproar. He was dark as thunder, and his lips were tightly pursed. She hung her head low, too scared to meet anyone's gaze. Then, there were the unsealed contraceptives I found, along with my full body checkup report. Naturally, the special request was included as well."Mr. Joshua Grayson fed me contraceptives in the name of health, masking it as multivitamins, and took away my reproductive rights," I said coldly. The shock in the room swiftly turned into fury. The shareholders were now looking at Joshua with scorn. The next set of evidence was the most damning one. Mr. Wesley showed every single detail of Joshua abusing his power to transfer marital assets and company wealth illegally through foreign accounts and companies that had ties to him.The amount was staggering. And the recipients we

Chapter 8 New Future

I got over the trauma Joshua inflicted on me. My life and career were getting on track, and I focused on management. Thanks to my family's help and my talent in business, I controlled the mess soon and started expanding into new territories.Suitors weren’t in short supply: industry giants, rising elites, and other remarkable men who appreciated both my ability and my resilience, but I declined them all.All I wanted was to focus on my work and enjoy some peace and quiet. I used part of the money I took back to set up a charity. That fund would provide legal and psychological support for women who had fertility problems and those who had gone through the same suffering I did.I hoped my story would help more people so they wouldn't have to suffer as much. Our first real world event was held in an orphanage.I was going to leave right after the event was over, and I saw a girl about four years of age sitting on the steps alone. She was holding an old plushie. Her eyes were clear a
